What have you done to your 5th Gen 4Runner today?

Chrome door handle blackout. Don't know how I feel about them though. The door lock above the black handle moves when the handle is opened, while with the chrome it stays in place. Also don't dig the scuff mark on the end of the black handle.

What route did you go for the valance? dip, paint, replacement? Looks great is why I am asking!

 

Lower valance I used rustoleum bedliner paint to give a light textured look. Picture is of the rear, guess I didn’t save picture of the front

 

Did you ever figure out a resolution for the gap? I just installed this same valance from 4RL and the small but significantly noticeable gap in the center above the tow hitch is convincing me to just paint the OEM valance and put that back on.

Looks like you bent a tab when installing.

 

i had trouble with that middle tab even on the OEM valance and had to keep an eye on it while clipping it to the bumper cover.

My OEM silver one looked just like that from day 1. Aftermarket one has much smaller less noticeable gap now. If they would have used a clip on that center one like the rest of the tabs it wouldn't have that issue.

 

Prolly din take the bumpers completely off like I've done and recommended no broken tabs zero problems. But, I have a '16 with no sensors and crap to worry about

This one was the rear so it did involve taking the bumper completely off (though I will do that for the front as well when that time comes) but I could've sworn I had everything fitted right with no broken tabs. I hadn't noticed it until after installation when I went to go pull something out of the trunk and looked down lol. Oh well, I'll paint the OEM valance or get a replacement and try again some time. Removing the bumper took a lot less time than removing all of the clips holding the valance.

Yeah for sure, goodluck! Many people advocate to not take off the rear or front bumper to remove valances. I argue it was nearly impossible for me, with my size hands at least, to accomplish this faster than taking the bumper off. I was ready to punch someone after attempting just a few clips lmao. And those advocates seem to always mention how fast it was for them to remove clips, and fail to mention then you gotta get them all back in again afterwards. Not worth the frustration and risk of breaking clips, in a rage.

 

I actually just tried pulling the front valance off yesterday without removing the bumper, attempted to take out just one of the easier-to-access clips and almost immediately gave up. There was no way I going to contort my arm enough to be able to pull either of the lower side clips or that last one at the top on the passenger side. I'm positive I can remove the front bumper and valance in less time than it would take to try to pull out any of those with it on lol. I have a 2023 with TSS and I think the only difference from non-TSS models is that the bumper is held by a couple more bolts and the harness for the TSS.

 

Yeah, see, thank-you! Haha I said the exact same thing and multiple ppl dog piled on me saying it's totally possible and not that hard with bumpers on.

 

I replaced the shocks on the rear hatch with heavy duty ones from Lift Support. Since adding a rear ladder it had a really bad habit of konking me on the head. No more!

 

How hard is it to replace the hatch shocks?

 

FNG here, Just bought my 4runner this month. 1st thing I did was blackout emblem overlays but painted the TRD red to make it pop. Didn't come out perfect but overall pretty happy with it. Also swapped my wheels and tires from my tacoma.

 

A screwdriver and 5 minutes of your time.

Hit 100k this morning. Other than a battery, I haven't had to do anything other than regular maintenance.

 

Did on-line chat last night W/dealer that has 2 2023 White TRD Pro's. They replied they want $6k OVER MSRP!! told them LOL "I ain't paying $0.01 over MSRP & the 2024's will be out soon". I thought the over price crap went out????

 

Lol….. Dealer here has 12K over MSRP

 

There's no need to take the front off. You can do it all by laying under the front bumper and just reaching up. It was super easy.
