19 pro will be offered in Voodoo Blue, LED fogs, Fox shocks, new roof rack, and red TRD lettered skid plate. There could be a few other revisions I’m missing.

4Runner TRD Pro: The Legend Grows

4Runner needs no introduction. The iconic SUV is one of the most legendary off-road vehicles in Toyota’s history. For 2019, TRD Pro takes 4Runner’s world-renowned trail capability to the next level.

4Runner’s Fox shocks not only enhance its off-road performance but, paired with the TRD-tuned front springs, the package lifts its front 1 inch compared to other grades, while also providing nearly 1 inch of additional wheel travel. The 2.5-inch front shocks employ 46 mm pistons and include 7 bypass zones (4 compression, 3 rebound). In the rear, the 2.5-inch Fox shocks feature 11 bypass zones (7 compression, 4 rebound) to fine-tune the low- and high-speed compression, and 2-inch piggyback reservoirs house additional oil to retain damping performance when it’s needed most. A unique TRD roost shield offers additional protection for the inverted shock design in the rear.

4Runner adds a new roof rack for stashing additional gear outside of the cabin (say, dirty gear or laundry after a weekend camping trip). The 1/4-inch-thick front skid plate also sports new red TRD lettering. 4Runner features 17-inch matte-black TRD alloy wheels with an offset change to provide it with nearly a 1-inch wider track front and rear for added stability. Nitto Terra Grappler P265/70R17 A/T tires provide all-terrain performance for whatever the situation demands.

Like Tacoma, 4Runner TRD Pro passengers can jam to tunes from a new-for-2019 standard Entune Premium JBL Audio with Integrated Navigation and App Suite. Other interior appointments include TRD Pro floor mats, TRD shift knob, and red-stitched Softex seats with red TRD logos on the front headrests. Additional TRD Pro exterior features include LED fog lights, blacked-out TOYOTA grille, and projector-beam headlights with smoked trim.

For the amount of money they charge for those, they should really come with more useful features.

I would like to see a front locker, longer travel, real tires and a winch.

    Positive note.
The 19MY doesn't appear to have front radar like the Tacoma and Tundra.

Would have rather seen a snorkel on the 4runner too, but i will be looking into that roof rack.

It's also supposed to get the full Entune infotainment w/JBL and it the wheel track is 1 inch wider. EDIT: Actually through some more reading, it appears that the 1" inch wider track isn't new. The TRDP wheels have an offset which is 1" wider than other T4R wheels, but it's still the same width as previous years.

The new roof rack looks like the rack that came with the FJ Cruisers (must have been a bunch laying around LOL)

My sources are telling me that the 2019 4R will look considerably different than the one shown here and billed as a 2019.- Perhaps to be called a Gen 6 Time will tell.

They would not show the 2019 4runner if it was a all new gen, they would have left it out of the pro line-up this year. Now if they later this year when the 2020s are reveiled they may have a new gen 4runner and leave it out of the pro-lineup. Also if a new 4runner was arriving they would have reviled it already, Chicago is usually where they unveil their new trucks.

I would seriously appreciate a new transmission. Getting 15mpg at 70mph at ~2100rpm's is pretty annoying.

Also I'm not sure what's actually new with the new head unit. Pictures and videos show the same 6" screen with a JBL logo below it, but besides that I see no difference.

It would nice to get better gas mileage. There will be more issues if they put more gears in the transmission. Example my wife had a 2013 Acura TL. 6 speed trans. Even talking to the mechanics at Acura agree awesome trans. Then they change and go to 2015 tlx with a 9 speed for better gas mileage. And now for 2018 tlx has a 10 speed. All because manufacturers are being pushed to get better gas mileage. Her 15 transmission is junk. Barely any better gas mileage than her 2013. This is just a example.

Most of the time more gears doesn't mean taller overdrive. It's more gears in between. At 70mph you're pushing enough wind that you don't want to lug at low revs. Low revs and high load kill MPG too.

    I just found that 2019 T4R will have a 6speed and 3.5L engine @300hp...also a bit lighter .. tires set out 1 inch and a 1 inch lift . different shocks .

Look it up , its out on the internet..

Under the hood, there are also going to be some changes. In our opinion, Toyota won’t be using the 4.0 V6 engine anymore on the 2019 Toyota 4Runner because it’s just not efficient enough for the market today. So, we are expecting this engine to be replaced by a 3.5-liter V6 engine which should be capable of producing 300 of horsepower and 290 of torque.

In what concerns the transmission, the 2019 Toyota 4Runner should come with a 6-speed automatic transmission.

Can't tell if your being sarcastic or not? Source? Everything I am seeing is the same 4.0. I have a hard time believing they would change the engine and transmission for just 2019 when there is a rumored complete redesign coming in 2020.

    oh the list....!
This is true.... UNLESS you have GOBS of torque on tap at low revs. Can anybody say Cummins? 1st Gen 6BT got consistently in the low 20's with a 3/4 ton truck. imagine what a 4BT would get in our chassis with proper gearing. :yes:The problem we have is an American public that is trying to ignorantly worship at the altar of horsepower and fuel economy. Torque moves loads. Our platform would be IDEAL (IMHO) for a diesel , but I don't see any Japanese manufacturer wanting to deal with our EPA in order to do so. <- other than commercial/industrial vehicle offerings. What do y'all think?

my family member has the V8 T4R limited .. I have driven it a few times and never had this V8 down shift on the hywy .. my V6 2016 sure does , when going up some grades .. annoying esp in cruise control..

the 3.5L engine may have more torque but how wide is the torque band ???? compared to the V8 engine ???
so 6sp is why IMO this is used , so more down shifting ...taco owners have moved to 4runners because of this new engine in taco... or they try to find the older 4L V6 taco trucks.
2019 models are to be 300lbs lighter maybe .. if the frame is removed not an off road vehicle anymore ..

The article you are quoting (link) is pure conjecture. And it's already wrong because the 2019 models have been announced with no real changes except for some Fox shocks and a snorkel on the Taco.

You read a January article in March, that doesn't make it March news.

Reason why I made my wife get a new 2018 4runner with the 4.0 vs the most likely 3.5 6spd bc no bottom end torque.

Yes agreed. The main reason i got rid of my 16 tacoma. It has 278 horsepower the 4runner has 270. Guess what the 4runner feels like it has much more power. My tacoma I had to floor to get it moving.

We have the 2018 v6, 4.0, and are happy with it except for the millage getting mostly 16-17mpg, with in town and some hwy mix. I had the 2012 tundra 5.7 6 speed trans. I got 18 mpg on the hwy. but 12 in town. and all I did to it was a free flow muffler and a bed cover. I really miss it. But she does most of the driving now, so happy wife happy life, the trade off is I can play in the mud with the 4runner, I am going to swap out the muffler to a free flowing in a few weeks and see if it helps milage, some say yes and some say no. I think the 4.0 has pretty good take off, its really good at a 30mph tromp, but I am still adjusting its hard to beat the power of the Tundra 5.7. My brother owns a muffler shop, so its a cheep swap for me to try.
