Rusted OEM parts on 2019 4Runner or replacement parts?

Dilluision I too noticed stickers with tape and new bolts holding up some of these rusty parts. Time for a legal auto inspector to provide feedback in real time.

 

I’m Back online and second pair of eyes on the ground from a legal professional auto inspector will be done.

Startrek a professional legal auto inspector will provide more than what you can see
By a complete bumper to bumper total inspection. They can see new bolts holding rusted parts as well as
taped on stickers and possibly more to go in a legal recourse.

 

Exactly my 4Runner is only 4 years old and I’ve never seen all this rust before.
Inspectors who deal with litigation on behalf of consumers will be able to uncover what I see but cannot prove without legal inspection.

 

the “new” bolts you see are made of a different material that doesn’t rust the same way but you can see corrosion on them and the exposed threads. there isn’t any tool marring on the bolts.

the “tape” you see on the stickers is actually paint which are honor marks made at the factory as a part of quality control.

 

did you drive it in the gulf ? considering your trucks not that old, the rust may be superficial only. I would have it cleaned up, repainted and some type of undercoating. best of luck beachgirl.

 

Just spit-balling here, but is there a chance they gave you back the wrong truck? I love a good scam story. To be fair, my rust belt '18 doesn't have nearly that much surface rust, but it looks like just normal surface rust on yours.

I think it doesn’t help in the “trust” department, for a shop to have the vehicle for so long to fix reportedly minor damage,

Sounds like the Seattle Windshield Pitting Epidemic where people blamed windshield pitting on everything from nuclear fallout (wouldn't be the 50's without nuclear fallout) to mega radio towers, when in reality pitting was always present, people only started noticing it once they were told to look. You noticed the rust that was always there when something genuinely suspicious caught your attention (the remote).

The ocean if fucking brutal, you don't even have to live next to the ocean, the strong breeze will atomize the salt water and carry it far. Metal is very susceptible, and your 4runner might not even have to roll onto the beach. I'd sanding and repainting the most important parts like the frame, or fluid filming over it if you don't want to do that. It's not ideal, but I'm not shocked.

Your key being changed is suspicious. If they do something with the key, they have to tell the customer. I'd be a little upset if they tried pulling a fast one like that. But if the place has a good reputation, they'd be stupid to risk it swapping slightly more used 4runner parts onto your vehicle. The bolts are made of different metal and get a different treatment, it isn't done in one go, so different rust rates isn't unexplainable.

If I were an unscrupulous shop, I'd skim Freon. Easy to access in vehicle, nothing to identifying about it, pressure gauges for freon are inaccurate or too expensive, and the next person who needs a recharge I can sell it to- no fences required.

 

Did you look at the VIN stamped into the frame behind the passenger front wheel?
Like others said, looks like your rust. Bolts don' took touched.

 

My Tundra has these said stickers also. Should I go get a legal auto inspector? LOL

Check the Vin and previous mileage ......... as others stated, maybe you have the wrong 4Runner.

In the event the initial concern is serious, it's your rusty truck. Nobody swapped out the entire lower end of your 4Runner with someone else's rusty parts.

 

Nothing to prove considering all the parts have similar amount of rust as your frame. The rust is from your own negligence.

 

Am just passing my own objective opinion, why not share something constructive rather that posting your fantasies.

That professional automotive inspector is one of very few people on the planet that can match the frame vin to the dash or doorjamb vin.

@BeachgirlTX reading through this thread again, and having mixed thoughts on whether it's your own rust or whether you got taken to the cleaners - I really don't know now especially with those keys, waiting to hear back after you confirm #'s.
Unfortunately you say you take care of your Runner, but I haven't seen evidence you have any photos from before at all, which makes me question that statement.
