TRD Pro exhaust new suggestions

Just took my second long distance road trip and man is the trd pro exhaust annoying. First trip was to Toronto, I put on just under 2k in miles. Second trip was to fort worth and that was roughly 3k in miles. After all the driving I felt like I just left a loud concert. All the down shifting and droning took a toll.

Just wanted to ask y'all if anyone has changed their trd pro exhaust for something less droning? I'm looking for suggestions. Thanks!!

 

When I check on this, the shop suggestion is to swap the resonator to SR5/TRD ORP/Limited resonator. But the issue is if you want to keep the side exhaust its a weld job since the side exhaust tail pipe is 3 bolts vs others 2 bolts.
If it was a direct bolt on for the resonator I could have swapped it and keep the original resonator to fix it back if I decide to sell the TRD Pro.

 

I swapped the trd muffler for used stock muffler and kept the side exit pipe. A good muffler shop can cut the flanges off the tailpipes and swap them. No more drone & headache.

Seems like just replacing the side muffler would be the easiest fix.

 

Replacing the entire cat back exhaust is absolutely the easiest fix. I just couldn't go from the nice side exit oval black tip to the dinky rear tailpipe under the bumper.

 

I agree, it would be one thing if it sounded good but it doesn't. I haven't even taken a long trip yet and I am already looking to make a change. Anybody tried any aftermarket exhaust? i would like to keep the side exit black TRD tip

 

I made the mistake of buying at full retail ($900) then not liking it and no one wanting to make a decent offer on it.

 

sport exhaust seemed like a good idea at the time when i built the vehicle. I have always changed the exhaust on all my cars. I have never had a 6 cylinder before...i didn't even think about it i just figured get it and there would be one less thing to do later. sounds like crap

 

Now that you have had some time with your setup are you still happy with what you did? I just got a TRD Pro.. I love it but drone has to go. I just ordered a stock muffler and tailpipe and now I'm wondering about trying to keep the nice looking side exit like yours.

I installed a stock muffler [Part #: 17420-31360] Solved my issue. Kept side exit tail pipe.

 

You either like it or you don’t. I had almost 8000 miles on my 2020 Pro when I traded it in. Getting another Pro just waiting on it. Never bothered me. So it will stay on.

 

I very much liked the TRD Pro exhaust when I drove one for a morning this Spring. If I manage to get a SO Pro the exhaust will definitely stay on the truck. And try as I might, I could not reproduce any of the negatives about the motor, transmission or exhaust you read about on forums. The thing purred like a kitten, was quick enough for me and did not downshift very much at all. I think a lot of this depends on your style of driving, my style is very laid back and easy on the gas, so the Pro fit me to a T. The only thing I do not like about the TRD Pro is the now impossible task of finding one to buy at a reasonable MSRP kind of a price.

You can either have a muffler shop adapt your Pro side exit to the stock muffler, or go the route I did - put a 90° bend in the stock tailpiece to make it a side exit.

 

Just cut the muffler section and put an OEM piece and keep the rest intact. The OEM muffler runs between 250 or 350. Your ears will thank you forever. I went thru all of this stuff and the OEM is where is at if you want peace and quiet.

This is tempting, but done wrong it messes up 2 expensive exhausts.

 

Did you cut and weld the flange in the same spot as emac?

 

Trust me. No matter how you plan on keeping the TRD exhaust and putting it back one day, you will not! It will just take some space in your garage. Sell it. And who says you’re messing up the exhaust? You are only altering the tail pipe.

 

For a PROFESSIONAL the process is simple. That is why you don't go to a fly by night exhaust shop.
One cut, one weld at the end of the muffler pipe right before the flange. If done right they may not even have to unbolt the tailpipe flange.

Thanks. I have a shop that should be able to handle it, and might have a line on a nicely priced stock exhaust.

 

The shop cut the flange just on the pro muffler at the weld. They then cut the flange off the stock muffler and welded the stock muffler to the side exit pipe. The rest bolted right back up.

 

I'd never put it back on. It's in my basement.

 

Does anybody know if there is a generic type flange that bolts up? I am wanting to swap to the regular muffler and keep the side exit, just trying to keep from cutting up the TRD muffler.
If I do have to cut it, is it best to cut right at the muffler, or right at the flange?
Also, what are your thoughts on welding with basic mig wire and 75/25 gas?

 

I have a borla x/s sport. Among the quietest mufflers. Aside from one specific rpm in the lower 2k, it doesn't drone

 

This is a first, I don't think I've ever heard someone complain about a stock 4Runner exhaust being too loud. I actually just replaced the stock muffler on my '23 Limited with a Summit Racing oval muffler, at least now I can hear something. I'm not one for driving a vehicle that's as quiet as a tomb...at least not yet...
