4.7 Timing Belt

Hi. New to this forum. Looking for some advice. I have a 2004 4Runner Sport with the 4.7L. I bought the vehicle used with a 100,000 miles on it. The timing belt was done when the vehicle had 95,000 miles on it. It currently has 165,000 miles. My question is when is a good time to replace it again? I know some need to be replaced at 60,000 or 100,000. I’m getting ready this summer to go cross country pulling about a 5,000 pound trailer. So any help is appreciated. Thanks.

 

Typically it’s recommended at 90,000 miles but you’re kinda close enough I’d get that done!! Just had mine done yesterday...not worth the headache and worry for sure!!

Ha!! I get employee discount and I’m pay $1020.... with out that they were saying $1350!! But that’s at a dealership.. I have a quote from a Toyota tech here in Dallas $628 parts and labor but it’s not Toyota parts..

 

Dammmmn. I have a shop that I really like and trust. They have done a lot of work for me over the years. I’m going to use them and trust they are treating me right on the price. That is the only thing I dislike about the 4.7 is the belt. Why go away from a chain that is so much cheaper and longer lasting? I know part of it might be aluminum issues, I’m guessing. But my Tundra with the 5.7 has a chain. Never been a fan of belts. Oh well sorry for the rant.

My water pump started leaking in my 2005 SR5 4.7 with 157,000. I checked around but the local Toyota dealership did the water pump and the timing belt for $985 and change. I was pretty happy with that.

 

Spend the extra money for the Toyota parts. I just did my SC430 which is the same kit and used the Gates kit. Its supposed to be the same as OE but I am getting a weird noise that I am told will go away when the belt breaks in, never heard of that;

It looks to be a easy job to do on our own. All the parts from rockauto to do the timing and serpentine belt is $300 dollars.
