Hi everyone. I was out test driving a 2008 4Runner sport tonight (91k miles, mint condition). However, my wife (and I) did not like the exhaust sound inside the cabin. I wasn’t expecting the deep throaty sound typical of say sports cars from a 4Runner, even the sport version. TBH it didn’t cross my mind that the Sport would have a sporty exhaust. I love the looks and features of the Sport but the sound kills it for practicality sake.

I realize I’m in the minority here and that most want a sport sounding vehicle, but it’s not us.

Is a deep, throaty, loud exhaust typical for a 2008 4Runner Sport? I didn’t get under it to see if it was aftermarket exhaust so I wanted to check if this is normal. If it is normal for the Sport I’m assuming the Limited is not like this but is quiet?

    Thanks.

It's either an aftermarket exhaust or possibly somewhere after the cats and o2 sensors there is an exhaust leak. I'm sure you can find someone who would trade you their stock exhaust if that's the only thing holding you back.

Interesting. So, you're saying it isn't typical. That's good to know.

The sound was coming from the rear of the 4Runner so, assuming no leaks but I could be wrong. It's being offered by a Toyota dealership so you'd think they wouldn't sell something with an exhaust leak.

    Thanks for replying.

True, I'm giving them WAY too much credit.
