DIY with void warranty?

I recently purchased a 2023 TRD OPR last month. I was curious if the warranty could be voided if I DIY maintenance (using Toyota parts purchased from the local dealer) or if I have an independent “Toyota Specialist” shop do any work? I’ve seen mixed opinions online. Thanks!

It's important to point out that a warranty cannot be "voided" simply because you worked on your vehicle or installed aftermarket parts. But... the dealer can refuse to cover a repair under warranty due to work you did or parts you used. They would have to prove what you did or the parts on the vehicle caused the issue in order to deny the warranty claim. But they will deny it first and then you will have to fight to get the approval.

 

NOPE, do it. I keep a log of all my maintenance and save the receipt. I buy all my filters from the local Toyota dealership and do it myself. I had a first oil change bad experience. I busted them not changing my oil filter. From that day on Ive done my own maintenance. You have to keep good records though. I have an Excel file that i write the date/mileage/type of maintenance and then i save that and the receipt in a "log book". I also would not follow the 10k oil change interval. EVERYONE agrees it should be 5k. There is a youtube video of a toyota engine following that 10k interval and it really did damage.

LOL, i am not going to debate you on this because you've apparently made up your mind, which is fine. My brother in law is a toyota certified mechanic and he also agrees it should be 5k. I honestly dont care when you change your oil. Ill change mine at 5k you keep changing yours at 10k. You probably take it to the dealership for your oil change as well. LOL

 

You can do all your repairs but unless the dealer is an enthusiast himself, he might give you trouble in case you need to send the vehicle in for repairs.
They have a habit of putting blame on things they did not do/work on to justify denying warranty repairs on things they should be doing .
Maybe switch to a different dealer till the basic warranty runs out or go right ahead and maintain it yourself and cross the bridge when you actually have to send it to a dealer.

not attacking at all. Trying to help this person. You folks do your 10k oil changes. Like I said, I honestly dont care how you maintain your vehicle. I actually spend time researching oil filters, oil etc. Ill stick with my 5k service, you stick with the dealership changing your oil. Hopefully they change your filter. LOL

He is a toyota mechanic. Like I've said, i honestly dont care how you maintain your vehicle. Just dont come here and whine when you have engine issues later.

I would recommend you do your own maintenance if you are willing and able. You will care more for your vehicle than any entry level tech that is doing oil changes and tire rotations at the dealer. I wouldn't worry about voiding your warranty unless you don't put oil back in the engine or something.

 

That's the big thing to me. I don't trust the entry level tech that is going to cross thread the skid plate bolts or way over torque oil filter or plug....or worse yet not torque a bolt and it falls off. Way to many horror stories I have heard.

Lol. Jiffy Lube took good care of you. My neighbor has a 2004 with 492,000 miles on it. Changes his every 5k miles. So what is your point. Again. You maintain yours. I’ll maintain mine. 35 years I’ve never called a tow truck once. Kept all of my cars 12+ years.

What are you waiting for lady? I said I do my own research. You do yours. It’s not just filters I research extensively. I also have done in depth research on oil. You stick with your 10k oil changes.
