Gas mileage, What are you getting?

Getting 17.6 mpg in mixed driving. I have a 2016 Trail premium with TRD wheels and Nitto Ridge grapplers with the stock size tire. If I drive like an old lady I can squeeze a few mpg out of it. Longer trips I have been able to get close to 19mpg.

 

I use shell gas 87 most of the time and I get 17-18 MPG.. when I use citgo gas I get 18-19 MPG .. so my guess is citgo has less alcohol in the gas .. down in SW florida I was getting 20 MPG..

 

Only 800 miles on my 2017 4RTRDOR. Run No ethanol 91 octane. Would run no ethanol 87 if it were available..... avg 19.1mpg. Half in town and half city highways (55/65).

 

2017 TRD Off Road. Just checked today after a fill up. The old fashioned way. Miles driven since last fill up divided by gallons purchased. 20.9. Mostly suburban with some highway as well. Average driving and I am not a lead foot.

 

Do you use a specific type or brand of gas? Like Shell, Chevron, Mobile etc...also 87 Octane or 91 etc...?

 

Mostly Shell since there a several nearby. 87 octane. Just rolled past 1000 miles this week.

 

It sounds like you got used to driving the T4R quickly. What did you drive before this?

 

Honda Accord and Jeep Grand Cherokee.

 

Driving the Jeep probably helped. You adopted your driving quickly.

At 1K miles, I was @ ~18mpg. I had a difficult time...switched from a car with twin turbos.

 

17 TRD Off Road...getting 19 driving the mountain roads and about 22 on highway. Only 1200 miles on it right now, but I think that's pretty decent mileage for a 4x4 SUV. My 12 Tacoma PreRunner gets about 21 on average so when compared not much difference.

 

well I have 3 tank fills of citgo 87 gas and I am close to 20 MPG with mixed driving ..

before I would use shell then citgo with citgo the MPG increased by 1 plus MPG 17-18 range to 18-19 mpg..

with pure citgo the MPG is almost 20 ... 19.7MPG so I will keep using citgo ..

 

Average of 2 tanks is 21.35mpg, showing 22.2 on the third tank so far

 

Took a Sunday afternoon drive in the B.C. coast range yesterday, from Agassiz at 55'elevation we climbed up the Fraser River Canyon to Spences Bridge, across on the twisties to Merritt for lunch, back down on the 4 and 5 lane Coquihalla to Hope, and then home again. Highest elevation reached was 4080' (1244 metres). We gassed today at the same station we filled at the morning we left, and we made a very comfortable 19.84 mpg US (8.44 kpl). I'm at just over 5500 miles on my '17 TRD Off Road Premium and the computer says 17.8 mpg. Haven't bothered calculating it myself.

 

After 1298 miles, averaging 22.44mpg using a Fuelly app

 

2015 SR5 with around 7,000 miles on it getting about 18 mpg combined and 22.3 mpg strictly highway. Highway driving is about 3 to 5 mph above the posted speed limit.

 

I keep reading contradicting things. I have a 2017 SR5 Premium and haven’t been able to figure out how to get my info display average mpg to reset. Even after fill ups. Still shows the average from day one. Are you able to measure mpg by tank? Or even trip? Sorry if I’ve missed the simple tricks. Thanks!

 

when you have the display showing the mpg press and hold the display button and it will reset back to zero and start all over again. took me a while to figure it out also.....

My 2016 Taco will automatically reset the Tank Average indication when you move forward after adding fuel. The problem in comparing mileage numbers is that there are a large number of variables involved. Even the manufacturers estimates are somewhat meaningless for the same reasons. Probably the only way to do this, with some degree of accuracy, would be to have two drivers, driving identical vehicles on a closed course, and then swap vehicles at some point to determine the impact of the driver on the result.

 

2018 Off Road, I averaged 20.4 on my last tank. Commuting back and forth between 6000ft and 8000ft, plus a bit of mountain driving to go mountain biking.

 

2200 miles. 17.8 mpg. Right now.

 

Download FUELLY. It is pretty easy to use.

 

with the MPG indicating on the dash panel , hold down the button on the steering wheel it will reset to zero then start rising.

I bought my 2015 used. Was averaging 18.9 mpg per the mpg readout. I reset the mpg at 38K miles. Started using Fuelly. Was getting between 18 and 18.5 rather steadily, then in Late December threw a set of new Wranglers on my Sr5P. Winter blend fuel is in full force up here. Now add NE Ohio winter weather (single digit cold), more 4X4 use, short drives as it is a bummer to go out in this crap (I work from home) and my average has dropped to about 16.7. I filled up this morning and I got 14.7mpg on 8.5 gallons. Prior fillup was 15.4 on about 10 gallons..

 

Aggressive lug tires will - Look cool, work well in mud and snow....However you will pay for them at the pump. On my 2016 Taco (pictured behind my 4R) when I switch from Toyo AT's to MT's my mileage will drop 2-3 mpg. Just too my new 2018 4R on its first road-trip. A few days on the Oregon Coast. You can look at the map - Auburn, Wa. to Newport Oregon Tank Mileage was 22.0. (286 miles) on the return trip it was 23.0. Odometer now reads approx 1200 miles. This was the stock tires (SR5 Premium)

 

Wow! Great mpg. I need to get out on the open roads more. I do too much taxi service to and from kids’ activities. I’m only getting 17 mpg or so.

 

before zero F arrived I was getting 18 MPG. during the summer 19-20 MPG.. so now with the extreme cold zero F, 15 MPG..

5 MPG loss due to the cold air temps.

 

I have a question and not sure where to post it. I currently have a 2003 SR5 Premium type 4runner. Had it since new. Looking to get a 2018 SR5 premium 2WD. I test drove the 2018 last weekend and it seemed to be very sluggish in getting up to speed. My 2003 has great acceleration. Is it because the 2018s are so much heavier or what? It was very noticeable. I had to hit the accelerator to the floor to get the engine to rev and respond. Not the same as the accelerator response on my 2003. Forgot to mention, my 2003 is the V6 engine, not the V8.
