What have you done to your 5th Gen 4Runner today?

Your time, don't see why he would. All you need is a 13mm socket, ratchet, and 3-6 inch extension.

 

Back when I worked midnight patrol in a slow place, about once a week around 3am, after the bars closed and traffic was non existent, I would drive the cruiser home and work on shit in the garage for a few hours. Half the mods I did to my Tacoma were on the clock, probably. I took more than a few calls with grease on my hands and wrenches in my pocket, if I had to roll out fast.

 

But in the case of the factory toyota housing the fog light pattern is controlled by the reflector pattern in the housing. OEM bulb is a 360° halogen and the LED I replaced it with is a 360° LED. I should be good.

 

And I finished the 4r projects(for a bit) today. New ICON wheels wrapped in Cooper ST MAXX tires. It was dark when we finished so I will have to get some better pictures later.

Baja UTility Flat Rack (install time approx. 1-2 hours - depending on how careful you are, and if you purchased RTV Silicone ahead of time).

 

Looks good @Ace21.....for you guys running the NFAB bars, what made you guys go with those? Just curious, as I've seen some different sliders.

 

Mine were dealer installed. I like them because of the steps, and I don't consider them sliders, I have no intention of using my 45k vehicle for rock crawling.

 

Yeah I hear you there, not going to be hitting hard trails like that, and was looking for a rail with a step...

 

Does any have recommendations for cross bars for the stock roof rack?
I don't have a need to replace the whole thing im just looking to strap a kayak on it

I saw something recently from a company called Rago Fabrication. It was on IN. Something about low profile cross bars for the stock rails. I did not look into it further though.

 

Ah. Well, let me tell ya.

I built a pallet that is 2.5" tall and slides into the rear cargo area. It's cut to exactly fit the recess. Note that this is for non-3rd row trucks (like your TRD OR and some SR5s... 3rd row models are totally flat).

Remove the rear seat bottoms, which is 4 14mm bolts. Pull out the seat bottoms and store them. Fold the seat backs all the way forward. Remove the angled plastic fascia cover between the cargo area and the rear seat backs, which is 2 10mm bolts. You now have a flat surface that runs from the rear hatch all the way to the back of the front seats. If you need a little more length, you can slide the front seats fully forward and place a Rubbermaid 8 gal Action Packer in each rear passenger footwell. The Action Packer is about the same height as the flat surface and extends it about 12".

To sleep I just inflate a full size air mattress in the back. We lie flat as noted above.

This might be a better view of the pallet. 2 1/2" pieces of plywood on top of 4 2x2 (really 1 1/2" × 1 1/2"). My current version has 6 D- rings and a trip list written on it in Sharpie. Pallet is 2 1/2" tall x 43 1/2" wide x 38 1/2" long.

 

The Nfab steps hide the lines of the underbody nicely. Simple and rugged aethestic, but also practical/functional.

I knew I was getting the Baja Flat Utility Rack, and wanted something that would look like it matched. Also needed them for stepping into vehicle, and to access the roof rack frequently. No regrets on either.

*not planning to off-road much, so rock sliders were not for me.

 

NFabs installed, I like them but whoever is doing quality control at NFab can eat a bag of dicks. Passenger front mount was a half an inch to far from the body, I used a floor jack to press it to where I needed. The outer center bolt on the drivers side was a little off and that took some work to line it up. Otherwise I’m happy, they are not any lower than the gas tank already is and some other things to I’m not too worried. Short wife=step life I guess.

I don't know man, I think I would have opted for the roof top tent. Looks like 2 body bags back there.

 

I had the same problem.
Question: did you install those bolts first? I did not, and had a helluva time getting the bolts to go in later.

I thought it was just me, but its like they didn't fit. Other than that...they are solid.

 

Looks good! How did you attach the cargo net on the roof? I saw another member do something similar, but it required some drilling I’m not too willing to try.

 

That's $30 worth of lumber and 0 effect on gas mileage, and I can run the heater if I get cold. I laugh at RTT...

 

I have two generations of cargo net. No drilling.

Each uses a 28"x28" Cabelas ATV net ($10) and paracord.

The first one was attached to FJ Cruiser D rings (Toyota part 58460-35012 which replaced the factory "coat hooks" in the cargo area. I ran a long piece of paracord in a large "square" that looped through those two D rings and then through the rear seat passenger grab handles. The paracord square frame was then cinched as tight as possible using a Niteze Camjam tightener. I then used small pieces of velcro wrap (hook on one side, loop on the other) and basically looped the vecro around the paracord and the bungee net.





This was a little rudy cadoody so for V.2 I used a similar concept but I used my shotgun rack as the base. I ran two loops of paracord through holes in the shotgun rack, then built a square of paracord in similar fashion to the above - through those loops of paracord (taking the place of the D rings) and through the grab handles, with a Camjam tightener. I then used small black zip ties - approx 30 of them - to secure the net to the paracord. I used a toenail clipper to cut the ends off the zip ties so the ends have a smooth radius to them.



This is super useful for light items like clothing that I stow up there when I am sleeping in the back.

Since the next question invariably is "you have a shotgun rack? How?"... here: Big Sky SBR-1 rack, again, no drilling, mounted to the coat hook bolt holes. Super secure. Tucked up against the headliner and totally out of sight, does not interfere with rear visibility. Rack fits up to a 19" bbl shotty (limited by curvature of the headliner) or a pretty long AR.

 

No I actually followed directions for once and started the centers then the rears. Could not get the front close to I tightened the center and rear and then fought the front one. It’s solid now but made it more of a process of than it needed to be.

I had the same problem with the passenger front bolts.... they needed "extra pressure" for the bolt to reach the hole. but overall, it looks nice! one thing that does suck a little is the rear steps... they are so little now and the lady had problems using it to help her put in the carseat (whoops) heehee
