What have you done to your 5th Gen 4Runner today?

You need new wheels or wheel spacers. I'm personally not a fan of wheel spacers and try to avoid them. If you absolutely love your stock wheels and don't want to replace them, wheel spacers will be your only option. SpiderTrax or G2 are the only 2 brands worth running. Stay away from the cheap ebay junk.

 

Yeah, I figured I would need rims, I don't want to put spacers on. So I guess after the holidays I go wheel shopping. Thanks for the input!

 

You're lucky you went with a tire that runs on the small side of the 285 spectrum otherwise they probably wouldn't have fit at all. The falkens run small, had it been something like the tires i'm running, they would have been touching the UCA's as soon as you tried to bolt the wheels on. What wheels do you have in mind? Generally stick with a 17x8 wheel, 4.5" backspacing, 0 offset and you will have very little to no rubbing. At worst you'll have to trim the inside lower lip of the front bumper.

 

Now that I've fallen down this particular rabbit hole that was going to be my next question. What backspacing and offset should I be looking at? I get the idea, but am not familiar with the application and since this just hit my radar I haven't had time to really do the forum search. Again, thanks for the guidance!

 

On wheels try to find a 0 offset with 4.5" to 4.0" back spacing. If you were to get spacers Spidertrax is the best although they only make 1 thickness. 1.25" I have been running BORA .75" spacers on my Tacoma for a couple of years now and they have been awesome. I needed them when I had SCS F5 wheels with 4.5" back spacing.

 

Only had her a week, no mods yet, but been researching a ton....thinkin floor mats first! Any suggestions? Eyeing the Husky

LOL, I actually hardly drive this, except when I do. I usually am on my motorycle. 10,000 of the miles were all at once, going to Alaska.

 

Brand new to the thread and am still a couple of weeks away from taking delivery of my new T4R TRD PRO. She just landed at port and is on a train to VA. While I wait I've been reading every post on this Thread and already have a laundry list of things to spend paychecks on. I know a couple of things I plan to do day one and that's lights in and out. Interior is easy enough based off recommendations found here. Now for exterior I see most people are going for HID conversion kits. I've not seen anyone just use replacement bulbs like the ones I found below. Does anyone have experience with just bulbs or is it just hands down better to get the HID kit? If it's the kit does anyone have pics or vids of the install? Curious about level of difficulty and if there's any mounting work? Final on lights, has anyone done white lows/highs/ and fogs?

find a local shop that does tinting, don't try it yourself, its absolutely worth it.

 

I have a handful of local shops but am really wondering if all tint materials are the same or should I shop for one specific type thats superior? Or is it all film these days? Also, a shop called LA Tint has 4 varieties and I know they're going to try and up sell me on the most expensive so would like to be prepared to get the best value.

 

Stay away from LED headlights. They're brighter however they don't project light even as far as the stock bulbs did. I did the fogs, high, and low beams on my 2016 Tacoma and wasn't impressed. Didn't bother on my 2016 4Runner.

 

What's your recommendation?

 

As of now I have stock bulbs in my 2016 4Runner and honestly i'm fine with them. I will likely upgrade to Silverstar Ultra bulbs though just because...........why not? I have run them in many vehicles and always liked them. Only complaint is they don't last all that long. HID is a great option also but I don't personally feel the need.

 

Interesting to hear you say this. Literally switched out my fogs tonight with and LED replacement. However I was going with an yellow bulb replacement for low visability conditions. The design I went with was 360° and from what I could see tonight testing them on the same driveway as when I had the stock bulbs in they are brighter and do project a bit more. However it's the stock fog light housing, so its only going to project as far as Toyota designed it to. Someday I might move to a Baja designs replacement.

The big question I have is - How much light is aimed upward compared the to the stock Fogs? If much is, it will defeat the purpose of the fogs by lighting up the water vapor and decrease visibility. Fogs should be bright, but project nothing above a certain point. I have to drive on mountain roads in thick fog and have learn this lesson well. If you are using for driving lights and are not concerned, then never mind. Just don't blind anyone with them or you could find your self on the wrong side of the law.

 

Thats because you need HID in the low beams, due their design, the fogs i replaced the houseing with Auer 2in1 led/drl. And hi beams with led are not bad.

First 500 miles are down

 

NFab steps showed up today, now I just need time to put them on. Oh and of course I drove my wife’s corolla and these won’t fit inside so I have to wait until tomorrow to bring them home...

 

It's a 20 minute install for one guy. I'm sure you can find time to install them. Super quick and very simple, 6 bolts on each side. Post pictures once installed!

 

I wont get home until after 8 tonight, I have some stuff to do after work and then tomorrow is my photo clubs monthly meeting so I wont get home until after 10:00. I'm hoping I can squeeze in 30 minutes Saturday morning before I head to Idaho for some more photo club stuff. I really want to see these on the 4runner, hmmm...I wonder if my boss would mind if I just bolted them on during my lunch tomorrow
