Going to haggle tomorrow, any advice? Appreciate all for comments.

    I have always used KBB as part of the selling process. With the crazy used car market the buying dealer acknowledged KBB has not adjusted with the supply/demand of used cars. I was able to sell higher than KBB suggested. Looking at Autotrader or other car marketplaces and seeing prices of similar vehicles all were higher prices than I sold for. I was happy getting 5k more than trade in and still 3k to 7k under what dealers had listed similar vehicles. This was bottom line what I told the buying dealer. Look at what is available and the prices. You still have plenty of margin to sell this and turn a profit.

    That was my experience when I bought my 2018 4Runner Limited. The original owner was local and had it listed on Autotrader. I had looked at loads of 4Runners online and it was priced $3-5K below comparable vehicles that dealers had listed online. I met the owner, took it out for a test drive and paid his asking price. I thought he had priced it fairly and didn't want to lose it by trying to get him down a thousand dollars when I couldn't point to any comps to suggest he was priced too high. For all I knew he might have had other people lined up to see it. He told me that right after he had listed the vehicle, CarMax offered him $4K less than his asking price. Based on the prices CarMax was asking for similar vehicles, they would have marked it up at least $7-$8K. The seller and I basically split that. Why allow a financial operator like CarMax who adds virtually no value to make that money?

    I know you just bought recently as well. With my current dealer, I had my price locked in and in writing even before we talked about my trade in, but I'll be paying MSRP. I really don't mind that, knowing what other dealers are charging for ADM. My truck is supposed to be delivered next month, but will see how that goes.

    As crazy as buying a new car has gotten. The one upside is no longer required to visit in person and all the high pressure. Can handle all the leg work texting or calling. Go in person to close the deal with all the details hammered out already.

    How I bought my Challenger, new, in 2019. I was emailed an out the door price, signed by the manager, the day before I showed up to the dealer.

    X3. Both my 2013 Tacoma and 2019 4R were arranged online prior to arrival. My dealer experience in both instances was signing the paperwork and fending off the 'add-ons' sales pitches of the finance manager. I financed the Tacoma, but paid it off early, and did a small loan on the 4R, also to pay it off early.

    When I bought my Challenger, the finance guy started pushing his stuff. I said I wasn't going to buy anything other than a max care warranty ( factory backed warranty ), his face soured, but he didn't press the issue. I've had other finance guys try relentlessly to sell me stuff. Just tell them, if you keep trying to sell me something I don't want, I'll be happy to walk out. 100% way to shut them up.

    With the dealer I'm working with for my 4R, I told them putting a single dealership decal ( other than a plate holder ) or putting any dealer add ons on the truck would void my agreement. I just love the odd looks they gave me, as the sales manager wrote that on my sales packet.

    I'll be using a trade in and writing a check for the remaining balance. They seemed pretty amicable after I told them that.

    Do yourself a favor and sell the truck privately. I was urged by members of this forum and Tacoma World to do so. I sold my 2020 Tacoma privately back in March. Spoke to a couple dealerships who valued m truck at $39,000 CAD including the topper. I ended up selling it privately for $46,000 without the topper and got $1,600 for the topper separately.

    I had to borrow a vehicle from my brother for almost two months until my 4Runner cam in but it was worth it. And in terms of haggling, I honestly would not expect much thanks to the current market and demand for vehicles. I had to wait for mine just to pay MSRP, which was slightly depressing considering I got my Tacoma for $4k less than MSRP including the weather tech style floor mats and TRD skid plate.

    I don't disagree with you, but each person will have a different situation. In the states, trading in can knock off a decent amount of sales tax. I'm not sure how that works for you all up north. It also eliminates tirekickers.

    If a private party sale can overcome that tax gap, go for it. It sounds like you did very well.

    At a minimum try to separate the emotions and shell game dealer will play moving numbers around. Know your price on the Tacoma. Know your price on the 4runner and what you can live with for add ons if any. Likely the best you can hope for is paying MSRP and not getting unnecessary dealer add ons bloating the final price.

    I did not mention I was paying cash until I showed up after a price was agreed upon....they still tried to run my frozen credit. For my 4Runner, this was 4 years ago and they were always on the lot with a hefty discount, I think it was about $4500 off MSRP.

    I paid MSRP for a 2022 Tacoma, no doc fees and no BS. Just Tax/Title/Tags.

    My Wife and I like to deal with saleswomen. She likes to haggle with them and get their (false) sincerity.
    I usually just kick back or wander off. She keeps saying no no no to their add-ons.
    And pretty much says, either drop the price of the new vehicle or raise the price on our trade-in, to get a monthly payment
    that we can live with.
    This last time with our new '16 4R, when almost all was done, I negotiated a price with the sales lady to deal with the parts dept. and got a set of TRD wheels (in Metallic Gray) for $70 each. A good thing too since we only got 12,000 miles out of the factory crappy factory Dunlaps.

    So our advice, keep saying no till they say ok. And be prepared to walk away. They didn't want us to walk away, since another dealer was on the other side of the freeway.

    Dealers telling you they want to buy your used car is simply them trying to generate sales, hoping you will trade it in. You bring it in, high pressure tactics begin.

    Very good item to point out and I should have mentioned this. Up here we pay sales tax on the difference between the new vehicle and trade in value. In my scenario, trading it in would have saved me about $2,000 in sales tax.

    I am an insurance broker and have had people tell me they've sold their vehicle to friends or relatives for the same value the dealership offered them just to spite the dealership whilst being remiss of the trade in tax credit lol.

    Just remember you’re in charge there are enough vehicles in transit or the lot and many are being sold at or below MSRP (unless you’re in California from the sounds of it)

    I didn't read all the responses but the delivery fee is built in to the MSRP already. So if they are selling it to you MSRP, that means window sticker, tax, registration, not a penny more.

    Thanks to everyone offering suggestion!!! I checked Carmax and Carvana, both had questions to be answered. Carmax offered $3.25K higher than Carvana plugging in same info. We had appointment today with dealership, they offered bit more than highest bidder without knowledge of other offers. We traded in our Tacoma on new 4runner, Silver Limited model with Redwood interior. We test drove the 4runner yesterday evening and decided it was a solid vibration free unit at highway speeds. The entire process was much easier than expected. I know I'll be paying close attention to this forum for advise as members are very educated on best practices going forward. Once again, Thank you all!! I'll post a picture or two tomorrow to share.
