Most people get rid of vehicles before the extra maintenance changing fluids early or with synthetic products matter. Most anything will last 100k. Keeping it for 20 years or several hundred thousand miles is a different goal than replacing every 5 years.

'Lifetime' fluid is lifetime of warranty.

I think the service schedules are designed to keep maintenance costs low. This is more important to the masses than what's the best for vehicle longevity. I do not believe in lifetime fluids. Everything degrades with use over time. Fresh fluids give me piece of mind knowing I am not running them all the way to end of life. But I am the guy that is happy changing the synthetic oil at 5k knowing it can go to 10k.

Mobil one doesn't do anything different than any other oil. Don't fall for all of the commercials

Thx! All kidding aside, imo if you’re using any brand of synthetic in the engine, you’re good. Same for front and rear diffs. Transfer case is a different story, thats is type specific: Toyota Genuine Transfer gear oil LF or equivalent SAE 75w. I personally use Redline MT-LV (after much research) in my transfer cases and drove thousand of miles in my 4Rnrs without any negative side effects. But again, to each his own.

True but I won’t spend $40-$60 a quart for the Toyota brand stuff

This is exactly what I did. I plan to have this vehicle a very long time and I've chosen to to change the oil at 1k miles and every 5k miles thereafter.
