My wife, and second baby boy deserved a sticker upgrade

 

Oh, and replaced the fuel pump assembly. Had the dreaded '1/4 tank issue' where the needle wouldn't go lower than 1/4 tank and I ran out of gas.

I like the look so much better. Those do not appear to be the factory Predator steps, however. Oem Predator steps are shaped differently, and are aluminum not steel.

Cleaned the Ol girl up. Wash, clay bar, corrected some minor scratches and then a coat of hybrid ceramic wax.

 

For those following, two weeks ago added a window air conditioner to stay cool while sleeping in the desert during the day (while working at night time). While intended on adding 300w portable solar panels, that did NOT work out, and tested version 1.0 with the already installed 400ah battery and rooftop 200w solar panel setup alone. Surprisingly, the 400ah battery and 200w solar panel managed on day 1. However, on day 2, it did NOT last as the battery could NOT fully recharge once the sun went down the night before. Thus overall, version 1.0 setup failed (in Arizona's late spring heat) primarily due to (1) the cool air lingering at the floor level where the unit was and the inability to lift the cool air into the sleeping area using two fans. (2) And NOT having enough solar to support the AC and recharge the battery as well. Anyhow, going to test Version 2.0 this weekend with (1) the AC unit through the hatch window and (2) extending the bed (to keep the cooled air in the sleeping area). Also, (3) adding an additional 200w solar panel that fits under stows under the mattress when NOT in use.


Day 1: Bedtime temp. My routine gets me up ~11 am to exercise, but I missed taking a picture of the temperature, which was 99F outside and 76F inside.


Before a run, I turn off the AC to allow some recharging of battery. Temperatures when returning an hour later.


Wake up at 4:26 pm; the temperature where the AC was on the floor was tolerable but I could NOT raise the cool air from the floor to the sleeping area with two fans, thus moved floor items to the bed and slept on the floor (NOT the first time sleeping on the floor).


Version 2.0 with temporary shroud. (This is ONLY for sleeping inside and NOT for driving down the highway and when the AC is stored on the floor.)


Start AC without solar charging in the garage.


Forty-five minutes later, without solar charge in the garage.




Afternoon sun at 5:30 pm, additional 200w solar added without load. First, flat rooftop 200w panel alone adding 3.4amps. Then, connected raised additional 200w panel adding an additional 9.6amps for 13.0amps total in the afternoon sun.

I use this one on mine. Does wonders for tailgaters.

 

Why did you replace the Toyota diff drain plugs with Lexus ones?

 

Because they have regular bolt heads instead of the Allen heads. Easier to service without stripping out.

 

Could you please post part # of Lexus plug? Thx!!!

 

Is this by toyota? I got one still in box when I got my 4runner this year, but haven't installed it yet. Mine looks smaller than yours though

Here are the two I bought. As hvac above noted, 90341-24016 for the drain, and I used 90341-18060 for the fill.

I installed AVS vent shades today.

Here are my observations so far:

1. As others have noted elsewhere, the packaging cling wrap was permanently stuck to the peel-off strips in a few places and I had to tear off a couple sections to get them out.
2. On two of the shades, the adhesive strips were applied about 1/8" lower than ideal, so despite jamming them all the way up into the channel, a sliver of adhesive strip remains exposed.
3. The bottom edges are cut a tad rough. I might touch them up with a buffer after the adhesive is done curing.
4. I'll probably enjoy being able to crack the windows in light rain, but I'll miss the little bite they take out of the panoramic view. The view out of the 4R is about the best of any modern vehicle I've experienced, so I don't like giving up any of it.

I also recently put in a console organizer and tray, glove compartment organizer, and neoprene cover on the console. The latter should prevent the wear and discoloration my 2010 Outback console has accumulated.
The bug deflector will arrive soon, so that will be next.

 

Lately all I get to do is wash this pig. But I do have a new roof platform on the way. So that'll be fun making the mounts and what not.

Just put in the CSF performance rad. Not bad. Removed stock bumper. Fought a bit but took me 5 hours. I think the book time is 3.5 hours. So not terrible. Happy trails Hans!

 

I put that same radiator in, as I always pull our 5x8 off-road trailer when traveling. We are often in mountains and wanted to make sure everything was always cool.

 

Makes sense. I use allen wrench sockets and have never had an issue, and they work on my torque wrench.

 

First time doing an oil change myself on it (2nd oil change done). So much dirt falls on my face, need to get an underneath washing thingy to do after offroading.
