Im doing 10/100,000 for $1,360. That's $136 a year pretty cheap considering how expensive parts will likely be in 3-5-8 years from now.

Depends on how many miles you drive a year. I work from home and have 11k on a 2021. Extra 25k miles in 10 years was not worth it to me.

Wow, I just talked to Jerry. I got the 7 year 100K miles on my 2021 4R, no deductible, no tax for $1025. One quote I got from some Toyota connected agency wanted $4,000 with a $100 deductible and added state tax. Is this too good to be true? :)

No, it's not too good to be true. You'll be mailed a Toyota Platinum VSA pamphlet in the mail with your name, VIN, and coverage terms, and it's fully transferable to a subsequent owner, or you can be refunded the prorated amount if you trade before the coverage is over. It's terrific peace of mind with all of the electronic gadgetry involved now, especially with Toyota Safety Sense sensors and cameras all over the vehicle.

According to the forums toyotas are supposed to be the most reliable vehicle on the planet so wouldn't the extended warranty be useless?

For you, I would say totally useless. Use the money for hookers and blow instead. They're much more entertaining than extended warranties!

Not needing the extended warranty because of Toyota quality has always been my philosophy. My 2 cents are all the electonics are not as bullet proof. Cheap piece of mind for me. If I don't need it in 10 years of ownership that will be a great thing the rig has never had problems.

It's kinda like house insurance. I have owned 6 houses over the years. None of them caught fire (yet), but it would have been foolish to not insure them. Insurance is peace of mind, and I can afford that peace of mind. When I first got the 2021 4R, I didn't think I would keep it beyond the 3 year warranty, so did not buy an extended warranty. Now that I see it will be years before new vehicles are readily available without markups, an extended warranty becomes more desirable. YMMV

Here's an example posted just today on another 4Runner forum of the sort of thing that would be the warranty paying for itself: a ~$1,200 TSS repair.

All this technology creates many opportunities for failure. Each is very expensive outside of warranty. Insurance costs are rising for same reasons and even more so with EVs. At Jerry’s prices, it’s almost guaranteed you will get your money’s worth, especially if you keep the vehicle longer than the factory warranty 3/36 or 5/60, whichever the failed parts are applicable to. The fact that you can get a pro-rated refund if you sell the car and cancel the policy is really the aspect that makes it too good to be true. I did that exact thing on a Corvette I sold that had the same cancel-refund feature. There is a $50 fee to cancel the policy deducted from the refund. But that’s round-off error IMO. So you get the insurance as long as you need it or until it expires.

Also bear in mind that the latest 4Runners are now adopting latest tech - even though the engine and body are ancient.
XREAS replacement alone outweighs cost of VSA.
Plus you get prorated cost back - in case you sell the vehicle

I got the 10 year/100k warranty for my Tacoma and it was well worth it. The dealership discovered some issues with my truck during routine service which led to some very extensive repairs involving the timing cover, water pump, and both head gaskets. Then there were some o-rings that went bad in my fuel rail.

All in all, the price Toyota covered for me was more than double what I paid for the warranty. That's also including the fact that Toyota paid less for parts than I would have been charged. It was a nice peace of mind for me.

That being said, our 4Runner hasn't had any issues. Then again, neither did the Tacoma until about 100k and none of those threw any codes or gave any drivability issues.

Asking for a friend, since I bought a Toyota CPO which includes both a 12 month warranty, and then 100k limited power train warranty, should I still consider a Toyota extended warranty? I said no thanks at the time of purchase but I’m already getting letters from the dealer to call and talk quotes.

That's the reason I got them both on my 4Runner and partner's Tacoma... Toyotas are reliable vehicles, but it's the failure of the tech features I'm concerned with.

Quick story... When the 2020's came out, I had a 2019 TRD ORP. If you remember, I was looking for a way to install a 2020 radio in my 2019, due to the "upgraded" features and larger screen. When I found out that the radio brand new is almost $5,000., it kinda had me thinking.

We also have the 10 year, 100,000 mile warranty, and paid just a little over $2500 with Jerry for BOTH. It is peace of mind just like someone mentioned above, like paying for home and car insurance. If you can swing it, I recommend it.

    Cheers,

    Sean

Just got off the phone with Jerry, at Mid West Toyota. Very easy to work with. I called and left a message with him this morning. He called me back at 730PM to get my paperwork done. He was up front with all pricing ( $1360 for the 10Y/ 100K ) and about $40 for using my CC. No taxes. My selling dealer said his at cost price for the warranty was $1860, but he sells them for much higher. If you're going to get the warranty, talk to Jerry!

    Jerry Johnson strikes again!

In the process of buying a new 4Runner TRD Off-Road Premium...

I'm a repeat customer for this particular sales guy, he said that he told the finance guy to give me an extra great deal on the extended warranty... For the two different quotes I got, each one the dealership offered me was 250% more than Jerry's. I didn't know about the $40 credit card charge and I will see how I can avoid that because I hate paying fees that are unnecessary.

Jerry is a good dude. I even tried to buy a car from him but they have nothing coming in that I'm looking for in terms trim or color.

Jerry Johnson is the Warranty Manager at Midwest Toyota In Hutchinson, Kansas. He also sells prepaid maintenance plans which I'm checking into although I probably wouldn't utilize unless it covered big stuff like differential and transmission fluids and propeller shaft lubes.

My DIY oil changes run me under $30 when I get my Kirkland synthetic oil on sale and use an OEM crush washer and filter. Plus I get the satisfaction of letting the oil drain for like 2 hours :D

The reason I will even consider a prepaid service package is that I'm going to do one of those engine break in oil changes at 200 miles and ToyotaCare doesn't kick in for 30 days.

Good to know. Pay with debit card and no CC fees. Thanks. As son as my wife’s Rav 4 comes in we are getting 2 Extended warranties from Jerry. One for my ORP and the Rav 4. Jerry seems like the guy next door. We talked for 15-20
Minutes on his day off at home. He called me back from home. His attitude sells these contracts thru word of mouth.

I’ve bought extended warranty’s from Jerry for my Tundra and 4 Runner. My 2 previous Tundras both had them and they paid for themselves after the factory warranty was up. Jerry is a honest guy with great customer service.

Finance guys at all the dealerships across the country could increase their bottom line income if they could just get a clue like Jerry has. They look at it as a way to hit a grand slam. That's great if you're a.210 hitter like Franmil Reyes and the bases are always loaded. Jerry's more like Tony Gwynn. Hit .320 in singles and everyone knows your name.

Those finance guys have to type in just a few fields, maybe nothing because they're already in the computer while I'm buying the car. Then they could make $200 or whatever for everybody that comes across their desk. They're idiots. Greed over gain.
