So I have a stupid question. I swear my 2020 4Runner had a full size, thin aluminum skid plate under it that completely covered everything. Recently I went to see where something was dripping and behold my skid plate is no longer there. I believe the dealer took it off and never put it back. I'm wondering if anyone has the full skid plate underneath, or I am delusional?

Yes it comes stock. Still have mine in the corner replaced with after market.

Not a full skid but front engine.

Oem engine skid is 2 pieces. Steel, not aluminum.

I have tried to sell most of my OEM take off but assumed the engine skids would not have much demand. People have them stock or replace with after market. Has anyone successfully sold the OEM?

The only buyer would probably be someone not interested in aftermarket, but tore up their oem. Could happen. The photo I posted above is from an eBay ad, they wanted $150ish. Some other eBay seller was asking $425. Right...

Shipping I would expect to be high on oversized part like this.

Yes that's why mine I just put in the corner. Didn't expect any demand selling cheap or even donating. Couldn't convince myself to throw away but that's what will likely happen at some point.

21 Venture - just curious, what aftermarket skid plate did you put on your Venture. I have a 21' Venture also and have thought replacing the factory plate but haven't yet. Would love to have something that allowed me to reach the oil filter and looks better than the factory skid plate on the Venture.

I went with RCI. This was my first upgrade because of easier oil changes not needing to drop the skids. Also added a fumoto drain valve.

Very nice! I'll look into that. Also looks like KO2's on there. Sorry to hijack the thread...

Love the RCI's. Nothing but good things to say about fit and quality. Hardest decision I had was steel or aluminum. Time will tell if I would go steel next time wanting strength over weight savings.

People buy a pro,.. then swap the suspension, try and sell it, and then, cant give it away (so odd why you would buy a pro then) Thake it to scrap and buy a 12 pack

Nah, I had the really long aluminum skid plate that went all the way down. Oh well, guess I'm screwed.

I did not buy a pro for this reason. Planned on picking my own suspension.

Anyone have a pic of this? I wasn't even aware this was an option OEM.

It's not. OP bought pre-owned, so it's an aftermarket that the previous owner put on if it's a "really long aluminum skid plate that went all the way down".

Why can't you go back to the dealer to get it? I had a shop do that to my Tacoma - leave it off after an inspection. When I discovered it missing, I went back and got it.

Mainly because I was there around September of last year. I don't look under my vehicle at all. I just happened to see something dripping after I had an oil change and looked to make sure it wasn't oil and I was like, wtf where is my skid plate. I sent then an email and they called me and told me I was full of shit and there was never a skid plate like that on my vehicle.

It's a hassle but I remove my skid plates before taking it to the dealer. Mainly to not worry about them cross threading the bolts.

that’s a decent amount of effort. might as well do the oil change while you’re at it.

Yep I do the oil changes myself declining it from Toyota. Simple with fumoto drain valve and after market skid oil filter access. When it does need to go to the dealer for other work they come off. It's a pain but I have heard so many stories of cross threading bolts or other problems with the skids.

I didn't even try to sell my OEM skids even though those looked new. In trash bin they went. Those aren't skid plates but thin sheet metal "engine under cover" which is only good against water/mud splashing and maybe gravel.

I think the factory roof rails are same scenario. I removed them but can't imagine much demand for sale cheap or free. Most people have OEM or remove to replace aftermarket.

Hurts my feelings a little throwing relatively new parts in the trash.

They’re not thaaat bad. After all, the front plate is a jackpoint and holds the entire weight of the vehicle. Sure, they’ll deform with a hit, but deformation absorbs energy. They will also deform in a frontal crash impact, instead of creating a non-deformable structure out of the front end.

Serious armor has it’s place, but the OE skidplates are a good balance that get you protection from one or two good hits, or multiple scratch-over-rocks situations. And you can do basic maintainance without needing to spend hours with a jack removing/reinstalling skidplates to put a squirt of grease in the driveshafts.

They strike a good balance for most owners. Unfortunately Im at the end of the balance where I’d be comfortable with more stout protection in trade for reduced of frontal crush zones and more weight. But what really holds me back is r&r for maintance needs. That sounds like a pain in the ass with how heavy some of these armor options are.

I wish they came with covers that would let you access the grease zerks for the front and rear driveshafts. All seem to require complete removal.
