I just did the first oil change in the 4runner. That's most ridiculous and time consuming oil change of any vehicle I've ever owned. WTF were the engineers thinking?

I agreed!! Did my first oil change last weekend. It’s took twice as long because of the extra panels.

Last week I finished swapping out the low and high beams with kits from Xenondepot and the old ebay... lows are the HD11 HID kit at 5000K (tough to get up in there because of the angle. Still need to drill out the dust caps; had to go get the suitable bit) and highs are Cree 9005 HB3 LED at 6000K

Previous mod was the TRD Pro front end stuff.

Yesterday: the plastidip treatment for the valence below the grille. Came out great (little jittery edging along the verticals because it's a trough of plastic with no seam point) and here we are!

Beauty - I get my Barcelona SR5+ in a couple of weeks. I gather that Utah does not require a front plate, is that true? Washington does and I have been considering hanging it below the front from a piano hinge.

    oh the list....!
This weekend I took off on a 200 mile jaunt to Nashville, ate some good Mexican food, Loaded up the empty 16 foot trailer with old oil and fuel tanks given me by my friend, and returned home Saturday. Didn't use the cruise on the way home so that I could pick the revs and shifting of the transmission. Total weight of trailer and load is estimated at 3K. Truck did OK, was able to maintain a minimum speed of about 60 (without over-revving the engine) up the inclines approaching the plateau. Truck brakes felt very solid and predictable even with a load. Haven't picked out a trailer brake controller for the 4R yet. Did notice however, that ethanol laced fuel disappears much more quickly with a load. YIKES!! 10.05mpg. OH! forgot the first thing I did Friday Aft... changed the the oil WHAT A MAJOR PITA!! Removed two (2) skid plates, drained the filter housing, then had to remove the little cover over the drain plug. There HAS to be a remote mount filter set up for this beast. Filled with 0-20 Amsoil signature series. Will pull another sample at 12K, and post results. Due for next oil change in 25K. Maybe by then I will figure out how to make an oil change a more REASONABLE experience. Crazy. Using 60+ year old technology AND requiring the use of a special wrench in order to perform the mundane, requisite act.

Typically with my other vehicle, anywhere from 25-35/6K miles. I take samples (costs a whopping $11) and get them analyzed by a local lab. The local owner consistently tells me that he will put my samples up against any regular oil change interval samples. Note: the oil filter is supposed to be changed at 12K. (sometimes I forget)

You can save some time with an RCI skidplate, you don't have to drop it to get to the filter. And don't waste time draining the filter with the drain plug, just drop the whole assembly leaving the plug in the bottom cover.

Ebay, Seller Mtnrider65. Store is Tacomavinyldecals.com These we’re listed for 2017 Tacoma. But I told him they were for the 4Runner skid plate. They are new from him. He does not have them posted yet for a 4runner. Just let him know and he will send you the correct ones. I hope this helps.

No issues with anything... yet. She drives straight and true, no roaming or drifting and no wear, but only about 1000 miles since lift...

No thanks lol. Don't care what the sample says. I change oil and filter every 5K using OEM Toyota filter and synthetic oil. Overkill? Maybe! But cheap peace of mind for me. Not to mention if your engine failed, your warranty is void if not changed on time with receipts to prove it. Warranty doesn't care what your sample guy says, you're paying for an engine.

It will with slight trimming of the skid plate. Whole bunch of write ups on it, been done many times. Looking for one myself but not willing to pay what most people ask when I can get a real skid plate for about the same price. Shop around, you can get much stronger in this price range unless you find a great deal on something.

Did the first oil change on it. I'm at 6225 miles. Went with Mobil 1 0W20 and a stock Toyota filter element.

I had originally planned on using the free ToyotaCare, but after my experience at the 5000 mile free service, I remembered why I can't stand dealer service. Took them about 15 minutes just to check me in and then about an hour and a half to rotate the tires and do the inspections they are supposed to do.

The day after I noticed that the valve stem caps were missing off of two of my wheels....ugh.

Simply not worth the time driving to and from the dealer and then the absurd amount of time it takes them to get things done.

So that's where I'm at, figured since I wasn't gonna wait for the free oil change, I might as well go ahead and do it a bit early before the winter weather hits.

Could not agree with you more, Dealers suck. Was getting notices to come in for my 5k service, chatted online with them, told them I would bring it in only if I get my first oil change along with tire rotation, reminding them that my 2016 Tacoma received it's first change at 5k because according to their own information, if you tow frequently it would be changed at 5k, and it was, she just kept saying the first change is at 10k and only the rotation and inspection would be done, sure the hell isn't worth the drive, or my time.
