Hello from Illinois. My wife drives a 2012 4Runner Trail. We have been pleased with its performance and reliability.

I am considering the purchase of a new 4Runner for my own use.

I'd own two if I didn't need a truck bed.

I love my T4R too, but how about adding a late 2nd gen (2015) Tacoma? Similar enough vehicles but with different capabiities...Oh I miss my 2007 Tacoma Sport V6 LongBed

Jump on in, the water's fine! The wife and I own three 4Runners between us. 2003, 2005 and just recently a 2017. The older trucks still run great and are easily the best vehicles we have ever owned. I was thinking about trading in the '05 when I purhcased the '17, but at the end of the day it was worth more to me than the dealer was willing to pay.

We have two 2017 SR5s. The down side to her having one is. ..."oh, I like that modification you just made to yours. ..do it to mine, too".

God damn it, woman, you can join the forum and spin a fucking wrench, too, you know.

    So there's that.

Yep, I lifted hers first so later I could whine about it until she left me lift mine :)

I just put a SSO slim bumper on hers...so you know where I'm going with this :)

    Thanks for the encouragement.

I currently drive a full size pickup truck, but we take my wife's 4Runner on most trips. It is easier to park and the storage area is more weather proof than my pickup truck bed.

How’s that bumper look. Got my wife a TRD Off Road. Just lifted it. New wheels and tires. Now she wants a bull bar or grill guard. I was thinking about that SSO bumper.

Bull bars and grill guards aren't really very strong when you need to use them.

The hybrid bumpers like from SSO are bolted to the frame, have spots for lights, have a spot for a winch, and also have 2 shackle points for pulling.

More money, but many times more useful.

I don't believe I will get a bumper on my "new" 4Runner but I did very much like the SSO hybrid I had on my '14. Looked great - subtle to most people's eye yet obvious to a connoisseur; and super functional.

Like anyone that knows shit about shit, I would never get a bull bar or one of those faggy Westin-style grille guards. I throw up in my mouth every time I see one, especially the blinged out chrome ones.

Mark might be coming on a bit strong but I agree with his points. My winch should be in any day, building the harness for my two pod lights, already got my shackles on there.

I like it because I consider it an OEM+ item, which is essentially similiar to OEM, just way better. It looks like the most badass version of the stock truck should have come with it.

Since all of you have experience about the sso bumper, i plan on getting one with a winch and shackels, was wondering is there a spot for a front plate? And i heard there is some cutting involved, is this true and if so where do you have to cut?

You have the cut the front fascia off the bumper. It's pretty easy honestly and they provide trim to cover it up and make it look good.

As for the front plate, I just lined up the plate and drilled 2 small holes and bolted it in. I'll include a pic later.

If you have a Trail / TRD Off Road then you remove the existing fascia cover and basically cut the bumper under it, using the fascia cover as your template. No going back! If you have an SR5 then there is no fascia cover, you just mock up the bumper and cut accordingly. The cut edges are covered with a black rubber loom so it looks fine.

You would have to either get a Hawse fairlead front plate mount or mock something else up. Or just don't run a plate. You pays your money and you takes your chances.
