LT255/80/17 Cooper Discoverer ST MAXX no lift

I have a stock 2022 4Runner with no lift. Mounted on the black TRD SEMA wheels everyone has. +4 offset I believe, about 11mm more negative than the regular Off Road wheels. I do have a body mount chop as I thought I was going with 34s but I reconsidered. The chop isn't needed for this tire I don't think.

Manufacturer says diameter is 32.8".

No rubbing for street driving. I'll be finding a way to articulate to the maximum each wheel after I get it aligned to see if I can get away with off roading this without a lift but I kind of doubt it. The spare fits up under it, I'm happy to say.

Just wanted to share some anecdotal evidence with y'all.

Edit: oh and they're oddly quiet. Like quieter than my Nitto Terra Grapplers that came from the factory. I only got to 50mph but it was weird and hopefully highway driving is the same.

Try to use a heatgun / blow torch to flatten the mud flaps. If you can put back the mud flaps it will give good amount of protection under body and sides to some extent.

Good choice picking 32.8 to play it safe.

Mud flap was the only rub I got with my 285s and added a teeny tiny lift and its good for now. Have to test offroad. If that's not enough I will go 2.5ish lift. You should be good with 32.8in 255/80R17s

Yes, I still have the mud flaps and would like to reattach them. Hopefully the alignment won't touch on caster or else it'll rub. It will be a small adventure but I'm pretty sure 33's are the correct size for me. Going with 255mm which is a bit narrower than stock helped, though.

I rock crawl so it'll probably be an evolution to make it clear fully. I might get away with a hockey puck lift though I don't really like the idea of them but if I can get away with 3/4" or less lift then I will.

I could be wrong but the stock tire is 31.6" diameter and the new is supposedly 32.8", meaning only 0.6" more radius. Common sense tells me I can figure something out by removing or adjusting the space directly above the top hemisphere of the tires by a half inch, but that's probably me being too optimistic.

 

It'll look alot better with a slight 1" lift in the front.

 

I was about to ask this question.

Is a (full) lift (2"+ front and rear suspension lift) needed to prevent any rubbing at full articulation if the front is raised 0.6"? I got to that number because 32.8"-31.6"=1.2"/2=0.6".

Would a 5/8" front lift not return it to essentially stock specs minus the front to rear rake would be gone and it would look more "level"?

Are those 17x7 trd pros? Also if you could photo bomb us with every possible angle?

 

How much do they way? Curious what their weight would be compared to like a 255 75 in a c load Bfg all terrain

 

Update, I'm waiting on an off road tow. My daughter is finding this fun at least.

Still no rubbing despite some decent articulating.

 

I'd been on this trail without water and I thought it was all rocky enough to just crawl through. I didn't do a thing like I should have like no air down no shovel no brains.

 

After some reflection and a shower and good night's rest, here's the beef: I've articulated at least 80% of my available travel and while I simply don't understand it, my tires just don't rub.

I tried to take lines that didn't go cross axle as much and that's part of the reason I got stuck (the other being that I assumed all flooded low areas were rocky like the top layer was and not pure clay mud. and I didn't maintain momentum because I wasn't scared of traction because of it).

I was hugely impressed with those Coopers when I was running them on my Tacoma. They were oddly good at everything I threw their way.

If I wasn't so keen on testing out these Nokian Outpost's I installed, I would have put those on my new Runner for sure.

I have a set of Toyo IIIs in 255/80/17 on order at DT. Currently have stock springs and Bilstein 5100s all around with the fronts set at +1.75" clip; TRD Pro wheels like yours. Discount Tire called me after making the online appointment to tell me "they might rub." I guess we'll see next week! I have 1.25" spacers on (Spidertraxx), but those are relatively easy to remove if necessary. I don't mind getting the BMC done, I just don't know where to go have it done.

 

Good luck. So far it hasn't rubbed once in any condition on factory suspension.

 

Did you have the real locker engaged or use crawl control? I get my 2023 OR this month and cannot wait to try it out. First vehicle with a locker too so I am excited.

 

The locker wouldn't engage as I was already stuck and couldn't roll forward like it said to engage it. I highly doubt it would have done anything. Yes I used all would software to get out but I was in a steep mud pit and my own fault.

Don't worry though, it's a tremendously capable vehicle. Lockers are more for when one wheel can't get traction or is in the air and the other isn't. Not really useful for mud in my opinion.

 

No rub that I can tell even with the 1.25" spacers.

I think they look much better in the wheel well.
