Info on a 2017 SR5

We are looking to buy a new SR5 premium. I had a couple questions.
likes and dislikes?
what gas mileage can we expect?
do the synthetic leather seats hold up well?

Welcome! Realistic gas milage for city driving if you keep your foot out of it is around 17. Freeway again if you baby it is around 21. Personally I drive like a jerk so I'm getting around 16 combined.

The seats are awesome. They are not as soft as real leather but they require no maintainence and I think are a little more resilient to tears.

 

Only had my TRD OR Premium for 3 weeks, but here is my take. The seats are much more comfortable than the Rubicon I had and they seem like they will be very durable and easy to clean. They are a little sticky when it's real hot, but that is what AC is for. I like the leather in my wife's Highlander Limited better.

Mileage wise, I have only gone through 3 tanks so far. One a combination of town and a 175 mile road trip at 75 MPH. Mileage 19.0. One was around town and open road cruising(60 to 65MPH) and it was 17.3 gal. for 397.7 miles for an average of 22.9. I don't expect this to be the norm, but it was nice to know it would do it. I don't drive crazy and use cruise control as much as possible, so I'm sure that helps.

As far as overall impressions, this vehicle, like most Toyotas, is very well made, it is comfortable, has adequate power, has most any accessory most people would want and is, at least in the TRD configuration, a very capable off road choice.

Our Canadian '16 SR5 Trail is very much like the US premium with moon roof, synthetic upholstery and all the goodies. We love it. The upholstery holds up better than any but the top quality leather seats and is very comfortable on long trips. For mpg per US gallon, we get around 15-16 driving in town and city, but 17.5 when we head east across B.C.s coastal mountains, and a high of 21 xing east to west in the mountains on Washington's Hwy 20 last year. I've owned 10 4x4s since my first brand new Int'l Scout way, back in 1963 (American, British and Japanese) and the Toyota SR5 Trail is the best of them all, by far. - Ted

 

My only complaint is the super soft suspension that nose dives upon braking and wiggles a bit when I jump into it.

 

Toytec Ultimate 3" set at about 2.25" will fix that pretty good. Looks good, gives more clearance and firms up ride and handling for 1300.

 

Never noticed any nose diving or wiggling when braking hard in our 4R Trail. Could it be because it's a Canadian model? It does ride a little hard on the paved roads, but still much better than the Jeep Wrangler JKU it replaced. - Ted

 

No that's probably because you have the Trail edition = better shocks from the beginning, iirc you have bilstiens.

I have the SR5, so it comes with the boat shocks.

Throw on a set of 5100's ($320 most places) and that should solve the Boaty McBoatface issues.

 

I swapped on bilstien 5100's set at .85. Now it rides and handles beautifully and has a level stance. I hated the nose dive I use to get before I made the mod.

 

Is .85 all you need on the 4runner to sit level? I set mine at 1.75 I think on my Tacoma and it made it level. Wanting to level out the wife's 4runner and add some rims now but not really sure of my direction with it all yet.

 

Yes, .85 will get your frame level and get rid of the nose dive on the SR5. I added 5100's on mine at .85 which gave me 1" front lift, which is perfect. At 1.75 you will have reverse frame rake but your fenders will look more level. I have a buddy who did 1.75 and he hates the look. He has reverse rake unloaded in the rear, with some goodies in the back, it just looks silly cause the extra weight gives even more reverse rake.

.85 will give you about 1" front rake if you look at the fenders, but your frame is what you should be looking at. There is a graph that someone did on one of these 4runner forums. It basically states that if you go 1.75, you need a 1" rear spacer. .85, no rear spacer. 2.25 front lift, you need 2" rear spacer.

Different truck, different shocks.

Just take some measurements before you hack into your truck. Might even jack the front up until it looks level and measure the change in height at the wheel wells. I think most end up with the .85 to get the 4runners level.

 

What year do you have? I've noticed a lot of places don't show the 2017 online, but they should have them.

Downsouthmotorsports is where I ordered my 5100s from for my Tacoma. They were pretty responsive on the Tacomaworld site but that was about 3 years ago.
