    Hey guys!

    Just want to know what would be best for long term ownership and overall resale value down the road. I’m between the SR5 Premium or the Basic TRD Off Road. I’m trying to get something between 2014 to 2019. Any input would be gladly appreciated!!

    I went for a premium because of the fake leather mostly. I'd get whichever one you like best. Both should have decent resale.

    That’s the hardest part… the Premium offers sunroof, heated seats, leather etc. where the Off Road looks barebones to me in comparison. I like the Off Road due to the manual 4x4 instead of the dial on the SR5 but I don’t think that’s a big deal…?

    They all have good resale, it pretty much doesn't matter.

    None of these are exactly cheap, so just buy the one that you actually want, and don't worry so much about resale. There's a new gen coming out in a few years, resale value could possibly take a dump then anyway.

    True, the transfer case is manual on the OR. But, it still relies on an actuator in the front differential.

    If you want the premium, get it! I didn't care about heated seats until I had them. I'll never buy anything without them again, unless it's a toy. :D

    Just depends on what features you can live without. The sunroof is meh because the rear window drops and the softex is nice to look at when it’s new but gets dusty. The locker would do it for me but you can always add one if you need it. Either way works well for the t case.

    Yes, I thought about this as well. I did a lot of research beforehand and checked prices in comparison and it’s about 10K+ to get an Off Road Premium. That’s why I narrowed down between the SR5 Premium and the Basic Off Road as both are in the same price range and what I can afford at the moment. Perhaps this thread can help others decide what to get if they are on the same predicament.

    If resale is a concern, i think you would have a larger group of buyers looking for the premium features.

    Wow, 10k difference? I'm in Colorado and haven't seen that big of a difference around here, actually much closer in used pricing. I wouldn't even look at an SR5 premium over an Off-road, but that personal preference based on what I plan on doing.

    How much off-roading are you doing?

    SR5 is really capable with ATRAC so unless you’re serious about off roading and need a rear locker I would go with the SR5P

    i noticed the other day the combination of rear window down with sunroof open is amazing as it creates an air current. Even with all the windows closed

    Then I would go with the SR5P. Even if you do light off roading in the future you would be more than fine with it.
    The premium features are definitely nice to have and make the cabin feel that much better on road trips

    The SR5 is very capable off road even without the ATRAC or 4L. Just get some good tires and go for it.

    I was just trying to point out that ATRAC in the SR5 is extremely good

    but you’re correct that even without it or 4L, a base 4R is more capable OFF-ROADING that the majority of SUV out there with equal tires

    Tires are really only a concern if you’re in an area of sharp rocks. Otherwise, I would just go with a good all season AT.

    if deciding between a SR5P and OR - i feel the interior amenities in a premium would be better enjoyed and appreciated every time you drive over looking at MTS/Crawl Control/Rear Locker controls you seldomly use if at all.

    Plus you get an overhead sunglasses pocket in an SR5.

    Is the manual T case actually “mechanically manual” (like old trucks) vs the electronic dial? Or are they both “electronic” so to speak.

    Or is this question not as black and white as I assume?

    It’s a mechanical link to the transfer case but the front axle disconnect (ADD) is still electronic.

    Pavement pounder get the premium if you think a locker, crawl control than the TRD its all what you need/want in the truck.
    Hood scoop some love it and some hate it

    I had a Tacoma TRD OR and I never used the locker, so when I got the 4R I chose the SR5 Premium. If I decide I need the locker it is cheaper [and arguably better] to install an aftermarket locker such as ARB.
    An additional benefit would be that I could use it anytime not just in 4 low.
    Also ATRAC is very effective in most situations.

    Close your eyes a pick. Sr5p has everything you want BUT the rear locker. Id go with the sr5p.

    None
    I prefer leather seats in any vehicle, especially one that goes off road. It's much easier to wipe off a dusty leather seat than cloth and they don't absorb / retain sweat odors. You can even touch up scratches with a color matched paint pen.

    I really like the synthetic leather seats. I have bought leather in last several vehicles because they hold up better than fabric long term and clean easier.

    But black leather in Texas heat is too much for me. The synthetic black is significantly cooler even when in direct sun.

    Exactly what I was thinking. And ADD is the one known to get stuck when not exercised right? I think one time I saw a post about rear locker getting stuck.

    I'm also thinking SR5 having more carry capacity because it doesn't have rear locker (maybe). If that's the case when installing something like a Eton E-locker will that impact carry capacity? Not sure whats the deal.

    But SR5 would still miss the terrain management and crawl if that's important. I was surprised for DAC work well for what it is and true not slow as crawl.

    As for SR5 I really love 3rd row and no moonroof. :):) I really miss that on my TRD. But I see some are lucky to find no moonroof TRD ORs in this forum. :amen:

    I was a little torn over the same question at first, I ended up going with the SR5P, I picked it up last week and I am really happy with it. Heated seats was a big part of my decision, and I was pleasantly surprised when I picked it up that it also included a heated steering wheel. The only thing I have felt the need to add to it so far is a tray for the center console, it is a really deep center console and I found a tray that fits in the top of it to hold smaller items on Amazon. It is a really comfortable vehicle to spend time in.
