What have you done to your 5th Gen 4Runner today?

Installed the Ultamite9 EVCX throttle controller. Didn’t get it to get more response as I think my 2022 Off Road drives fine. I got it for the lock out feature and Bluetooth module, so I don’t need the provider screen to control it just my phone. When I park my car, I just put it in lock mode and it doesn’t relay any input from the gas pedal to the ECU. I’ll alway drive it in Factory mode to hopefully avoid any reliability risk.

By the way, the install is a b*tch. Not sure how you guys who have throttle controllers can maneuver between dash and floor to squeeze the clip and unplug wire harness for gas pedal?!?

Yeah it was a bit of a struggle to get the harness unclipped but then my hand strength isn't what it used to be. Some people unbolt the pedal so they can get to it easier. I think you're missing out on not using the response feature, it makes a huge difference. I nave the Sprint Booster for over two years now with no problems at all.

 

Remove the pedal, arghhhh … didn’t think of that or see that anywhere as an option. I did try it for a minute on the higher settings, just feel like I’m flooring it. Not sure if my model year has better mapping, but felt better when I first got it vs the 2019 Limited I test drove at the dealership.

 

I installed a competitor, Pedal Commander, also with Bluetooth no screen. And it truly wasn't hard. I just squeezed down under there. I highly recommend using the throttle response capabilities

 

+1 for the Sprint Booster. I have seen only one negative comment for it. (I don't remember the issue) If I could have only one mod, this would be it. Going on 2 years, no problems at all.

 

I had the Tacoma version installed for 2.5 years with no issues. Bought it before their rebranding from IDrive to Ultimate9. No bluetooth function on mine as far as I recall.

There should be a noticeable difference in throttle lag between even a low U setting (like U2) and the pass-through -- mode if you toggle between them back to back.

And yeah, installation requires a bit of contortion. Even more so in my case because the included harness had the wrong connector, so I had to snap a photo of the connector on the gas pedal in-situ.

I've since gotten a tune in my Tacoma that eliminates the need for the device in daily driving, but it can be useful in one of the E- modes for technical crawling on a trail.

 

Once I’ve finalized added weight, and go from 265/70s to 285/70s … if my truck feels like a dog, I’ll get the OTT Tune done. But I really like the additional layer for theft prevention since two 5th gen 4Runners have been stolen with 1.5 miles of my house in the last 3 weeks.

 

Hope you pay attention to the weight of the tires as well. as it might impact.

 

Forgive my dumbness, but looking for some guidance. I ordered this button off Amazon cause the red back lighting:

The button fits in the extra slots, HOWEVER, it gets stuck once it's flush in there (requiring to pull the dash apart to push it out). And if the light bar is on, it's stuck "on." And if I didn't want to use a file on the plastic unless absolutely necessary.

So any recommendations would be greatly appreciated.

 

First I would say try swapping with top row. I had luck with that.

Finished SPIDERTRAX 1.25 inch spacers, in gorgeous black aluminum. Only one stubborn spline lug. While I was in there, gave light rotor rust a fine sand, and cleaned brakes. My 0 offset wheels got some stance now

I actually tried that at first. And high beam button is patterned different on sides. Wouldn't fit. But I appreciate your feed back.

Totally agree, which is what is causing me some hesitance. I keep track of everything in a spreadsheet, desired/purchased items, cost, USD to CDN, shipping cost, and weight delta (new lbs - removed lbs). Also track every tank of gas and mileage.

 

Go with Cali raised products. They don’t stick it all.

 

What tires did you compare?

Does not. Had to install one on my 2021 ORP

Crazy. it amazes me the variance between Toyota USA and Toyota Canada. Even the new heated steering wheel is also standard amongst all models up here in Canada.

 

I just compared 2 tires from discount tire site. Just wanted to point that there is a huge difference in weight that might impact the ride.
How ever the 45lbs one is Cooper Discover AT 4S which I strongly considered on mine but went with a different tire, but I might get it for my Limited. The 62lbs one was Yokohama something..

I have come to the conclusion that if you're going to get hit, you're going to get hit. I was hit while in my little white Subaru on a snowy highway. I bought a 2016 Tacoma that was much larger and bright orange and was hit by a large box truck on a clear bright day. People will always find a way to be distracted and cause an accident.

 

Agreed. I blame a huge chunk of these accidents on people's addiction to their damn phones. And no, I do not own a so called smart phone.

Not sure on the years, but both push starts. I know one was a Limited model. Both stolen seemingly by accessing OBD2 port, access to get inside one due to key repeater. As far as police say, most cars stolen jump on the highway in Toronto area, and are driven to the port in Montreal onto containers.

We have a lot of Lexus RXs stolen and Honda CRVs. I saw one security camera vid of them pulling open the driver’s side front quarter panel on a Lexus RX to what seems to be them accessing the OBD2 port, then the car opens up, mirrors unfold and they drive off. Hate push button, so much easier to steal now.
