Very cool but $$$!!! I think there are better options including some that incorporate a small step, which is handy.

Looks like some thought went into that.

 

I like it but wish it was half the price.

 

Seems they could make it out out of cast iron for 1/3 that price.

Light weight Aluminum is nice but is that really the material you want to use to drag over rocks? Few trips and you might not have anything left of that.



Right now my hitch is my hitch skid...

 

Probably less costly than a replacement hitch(new). But I get your point.

I looked at the hitch skid in the OP and after some poking around on the 'net I bought this one. Good looks, made of steel and doubles as a step. I did have to sawzall 1 1/4" off of the square tube to get it in the receiver as far as possible. It was hitting the spare. They are sold out as I post this.

I have the DRT version. Works well! But I am intrigued by the OPs post. The 41-22 version won’t stick out as far and so it will actually improve departure angle. I run a RIGd tire carrier so I am always looking to improve the angle. I’ll post pics when I am home later.

 

That is a good looking slider/recovery point but I would like to see a working load limit on it.

Warfab Armor use to make a few hitch skid variations. I only see one on their site now.

I just have a simple d-ring mount in the receiver. Solid steel one, not tubing and no welds on it and no extra holes all over. Very strong. A little spray paint once in a while is all it's ever needed.

 

As promised. Pics of the DRT. It has taken the abuse. I’ve dropped on to it and drug it across lots of Lava here on the Big Island.

 

Any other input on what people have actually used?

I'm thinking about going with the Reno hitch slider for our upcoming Moab trips...

spend your money on something else

 

For Moab, worry about your exhaust and your plastic bumper cover. The stock hitch being 1/4" wall thickness steel can take the hits as-is. If you're worried about the chain hoops bending, weld a 1/4" thick steel plate to the bottom.

 

I need the chain loops as I frequently tow. I also don't know how to weld.

I figured the slider will provide a bit more clearance between the rock and my exhaust/bumper.

There's nothing else left to spend money on! I've already got suspension, tires, skid plates, bumper, winch, fog lights, rock lights, recovery gear, fridge, power supply and custom built drawer system.

After all that... what's another hundred bucks?!?!?!

 

I leave my hitch recovery point in on wheeling days. It has been scraped down plenty of steep rocks, and it's right there if I need a tug. It does get a little dirty at times.

 

Been using mine for quite a while now. Works great as a recovery point and helps protect the spare tire.
