Last time I looked at new 4Runner pricing it seemed like MSRP was readily available without markup. I was wondering if dealers are starting to go below MSRP at all yet.

I have a dealer that will do close-to-invoice pricing for any preferenced 4Runner that is not a Pro, but the lead times are a few months. There are a few others out there that are willing to deal if you are willing to wait and/or travel. Just what Lockdown said, it depends on what saving a few bucks is worth to you.

    All the time here.

Servo owns all the Toyota's in Hawaii. They don't sell above MSRP. If you know the sales guy you get a discount on top of that.

Nothing to write home about… but did get $600 below MSRP on a 2023 TRD Offroad just yesterday. Marietta Toyota. GA
Started out with a $2500 Market Adjustment on the invoice. I told the salesman that was a non-starter. Scratched off. Then squeezed out another $600. I wrote a number down and told him if he came back with any other number I was out. he came back with the number. Guess I caught a hungry salesman?

You can get a decent discount ($2000-$3000) off MSRP of a 2WD SR5 because no one wants them

I beat MSRP by about $3k on cyber Monday! Talked the dealership into giving me the Black Friday discount even though it was technically over…

I’m in Northern Oregon and it seems that they’re not marking them above MSRP here anymore. Not sure about a TRD but I’ve had my SR5 premium for a couple months now and have taken it off road a couple times and am very happy with it.

I bought my TRD ORP two weeks ago (Los Angeles area). Dealer started mumbling 10K over but can do it for 7.5K. I said no way, but salesman said OK let's talk. So we talked for a half hour or so, I finally offered 2K over, told them that was it, all I would do, they took it. Honestly I wanted the car, color, exactly the options it had (pretty much loaded), and didn't really care about the 2K. Maybe, or maybe not, could have done better elsewhere, but as long as I consider a deal "fair enough", I am not one to go shop all over fricken town to save small bucks. TRD Pros - different animal. But I'd say my ORP would probably the next most desirable, for now anyway.

This is the exact thinking process that keeps the dealer markups going. Someone is always willing to pay more because they are happy with the deal that they received.

^^^ I learned a very long time ago auto prices are simply based on supply and demand. Until now, after dozens of new car purchases, I have never paid MSRP - always less, maybe a little, maybe a lot. (My last 10 new car purchases were Porsches.) This is the first time I paid more. I do know ADM's are common with 4Runners right now, mainly on the Pro but maybe on the more popular models like my ORP. There is very little inventory around the L.A. area (big area) right now, especially Pros and ORP's, but actually most models. It is what it is. I don't think ADMs keep going so much because people are happy with the deal, but more just because the "market" and availability at that time forces it. When buying any new car, the first step should be trying to determine "what the market is".

That $2k financed is no longer "small bucks". Patience, driving out of major cities and being able to walk away are the determining factors for MSRP or below right now.

    Not really, IMO.

Just because some folks are happy to throw away a few thousand dollars, doesn't mean everyone wants to. When dealers know that someone will come along and overpay, they're not likely to cut anyone a deal. It ends up screwing over other potential buyers.

Buying a new 4Runner was a big decision for me. I probably couldn't afford it now.

I know some people just really want to get a new vehicle, and I don't begrudge anyone for going after what they want. It's just a bad time to be buying a car.

The more people that overpay, the less of a chance the rest of us will have to get what we feel is a good deal. Also, if manufacturers see that people will pay what the market dictates, then they will just increase their profits and raise msrp prices. They can always slow production and create an artificial shortage. Why sell 100,000 cars at a 5% profit when you can cut production and sell 50,000 for a 10% profit.

That's exactly what I'm saying. The fact that some people are okay with throwing their money away is screwing over those who aren't. I've said it multiple times. Toyota is going to keep raising the price if they keep seeing people paying over MSRP.

There's validity in not paying over priced vehicles and houses.
    1. It makes the manufacturer and stealerships realize that the average consumer still owns the power in the supply and demand economy.

    2. Over paying for luxury items prove to the government that we're not in the economic dire straits that everyone is complaining about with inflation.

People as a whole have the power to crumble mountains. But against each other the mountain grows.

MSRP here in Missoula, Montana, but we don’t have a sales tax so I’m not bitching.

Paying MSRP in NM, 4% sales tax and 2-3 month wait after reserving one. Dealers still marking up Pros but seems like they will all do MSRP on any other trim level. With most if not all pre-sold before arrival, they don't seem to be doing below MSRP - but I didn't push for that as I was pretty happy to just get it at MSRP.

I bought a 23 ORP on 12-17. I got lucky as I had one being allocated and a deal fell through on the same spec that I wanted so they sold it to me at a 1k discount off msrp. Well it was almost same spec. It had about $700 on extra items added at the port such as the 2 in 1 fog lights and the dual front USB socket with cables.

I will tell you though that I built my 4runner on toyotas site yesterday, and msrp has increased by $870 on a vehicle spec'd out exactly as mine. So some of the "discount" being given in the near future is not much of a discount if they increase their prices every so often throughout the year.

$1500 under on last day of sales that counted for 2022 (actually was Jan 3). Not sure if buying that day was a factor or not

Everyone wants the once-in-a-lifetime deal at the dealership down the street from them. Dealers know that people don't want to travel outside of their comfort zone, so they'll price accordingly and call it a "Market Adjustment". As a collective, if we fight back against overpricing, it will make a difference. As individuals, dealers could care less because the next person will come in and pay what they feel is fair to them. Don't be angry with the dealers, as they are only doing what any other business would do in a Capitalistic society. Reward the dealers that are willing to take care of the consumer, with not only good pricing but good customer service, and buy from them. Don't fall for the FOMO mentality and follow all of the other sheeple. Sorry, rant over.

Invoice deals on regular trims are out there. You just have to be willing to travel to get it.

Same here. New to the forum. Looking to buy 2023 ORP. Please send dealers info that are willing to work close-to-invoice. Thanks.
