Ice storms suck, big time. I drove a municipal snow plow for 22 yrs. Good times......NOT.

    Ouch.
My whole career I worked hard to live South of the freezing line.
Enjoy playing in the snow. Not so much living in it.
    Y’all stay warm up there!!

Thanks for the great report on your shakedown trip. I feel for your ordeal with the tire repair. I’ve also killed my hands using those awful plastic screwdriver tools. So I got a heavy duty Safety Seal kit with metal T handles. They have several combinations of tools, plugs, and cases. This is the one I have:

At the time, I recall seeing those metal T handles and wished for one at the moment. Unaware, your kits have a lubricant. After being unable to pass the plug, I sprayed it with Pam cooking spray, which I thought would facilitate pushing the plug through but disintegrated it. Nonetheless, I eventually got it in (with the help of a rubber mallet) and drove home some 140 miles without air loss.

When you inserted a plug, did you use the provided lubricant?

But yes, one of those two is on the wish list now, or just the T handles, as I already have the other components. Thanks for sharing.

Yes I have done several repairs with the Kit and yes a small amount of lubricant / Glue on the plug insertion tool and some on the plug.

I think the lubricant in a lot of kits is actually petroleum jelly, which is not the best for rubber. I bought some rubber cement for that purpose instead. Of course, the problem there is that the rubber cement will be dry when it comes time to use it lol

I can not speak for other Kits since I have not used them but the ARB one is a tacky dark brown glue.

The rubber cement trick is to never open it until you need it and after you use it once replace it with a new one. I've learned that lesson the hard way (no pun intended).

I have seen those already they do work however that is not something I would carry with me camping because they are more of a shop type device a lot of work to use and do not work on very small punchers so you end up making the hole larger to use.

Heading to Ca for Christmas with the father-in-law. He is 94 and my wife has been in Ca taking care of him since the 13th. All our animals travel with me, so, had to stop in Casa Grande, Az and do a little hunting with one of my birds. She hit 3 jacks, but, couldn’t hold on to one of them. That’s her sitting on top of the trailer that the birds ride in.
Merry Christmas to all. 4F681056-CCF1-4950-88C1-CE869789AC23.jpgAECCAD6C-D1DF-440C-9054-741C16730F95.jpg 772B626C-1389-465D-A543-81F2A452F63A.jpg

Love it. Good for you bud. I enjoy seeing your pics and stories to Pa and back to NM. You’re getting all over the country and enjoying your birds and your 4Runner. That’s awesome! Merry Christmas

Holy Schnikey! I never saw these before, glad you posted them!!!! I think you did before but they didnt work for me.

I’m really super impressed by what you crawled over with your 4runner on this trip. Although it seems you have a pretty natural sense of where tires should go, picking lines, and such. If it were me out there, I would have the slide rulers and protractors out and analyze the situation to death until it’s time to set up camp.:p

I’ve also noticed that the damage potential seems to come right after the hard stuff is done:laugh: That last hit at Hell’s Gate was pretty hard. What actually made contact on that one?

Lower left corner of the winch bumper. There is a dent the size of softball. When I watched the replay and saw that hit at the end I thought, "What a moron." Then I laughed....hysterically. Had tears running down my face. I cleared the hard part, then "biff".

LOL. It’s really easy to miss features of the the terrain…especially when you feel some relief after being in “full clamp-down” mode

Did the jeep get much damage? It almost looks like it set down pretty gently on it’s side.
