Have a set of max fogs coming my way from a member here on the forum. Can’t wait. Did HID conversion headlights and BD squadron fogs on my 2018. More light is better!

 

I have personally ran DD sport, pro, and elites. The pros are for sure the brightest of the 3 but the beam isn’t as tight as the others, as mentioned before. I personally prefer the sport and elite pattern. The pros get warm enough to melt some snow in colder climates if that’s a consideration.

I did notice that the elites once installed shine more light width wise due to not sitting as recessed in the fog pocket like the sport and pros do.

 

Are the pro’s still plenty wide to light the ditches for deer etc?

 

Anyone know if the OEM fogs get warm enough to melt snow?

 

They definitely do and they have the taller beam so that helps light up the ditches even if you have to aim them down a bit like most seem to do.

 

I concur. Beam pattern is super wide. @4runningMan if you haven’t read that linked post for the Tacoma world fog light thread, it’s one of the first posts in this thread I believe, I’m pretty sure it’s covered how crazy wife the beam pattern is in there.

Are you guys installing the passenger-side aftermarket fog from underneath or removing clips and going in through the fender wall?

 

Pretty much all the videos I've seen show them removing the fender liner for both sides.

 

I installed DD fogs in my rig and did not have to remove the inner fender liner. After removing the screws in the lip and on the bottom, you can pull it away far enough to remove the factory fog and install the aftermarket fog. Turning the front wheel helps with access…

I live in the Mtn’s of Colorado. My BD squadrons amber just saved my bacon tonight because I could see both sides of the road and far ahead. That buck would have come into the windshield if I hadn’t had those on, but I saw him on the other side of the road and was able to stop in time for him to cross. There were cars just far enough ahead that I could not use my brights at that time. I see many other options in my area on other T4R and Tacos and wouldn’t change mine for the world.

 

this is the reason I want some better fogs. Being able to see further into the sides when not being able to use my bright lights.

I got this DD3 MAX, and install in less than 40 mins. I can say it is bright as hell I can see my whole neighborhood. haha

I got the DD Pros. The harnesses at the bottom seem like they’re all I need. What are the two others for? (I didn’t order the backlit ones- did I get them anyway?)

 

yes all you need is the bottom one, I have a set for the backlight I don't like it at all.

 

Remember, you don't have to use the backlight function.

 

yes I tested and threw the backlight wiring back in the box.

 

I ordered a set of their behind grille light bars in white driving. While I’m happy with the DD sport amber fogs. I’m hoping the bars will help compensate the stock headlights’ lack of intensity and distance.

Top harnesses are for backlit models. Bottom ones are non backlit. They have a different number of pins and positioning as well. Not sure why they include both with all models. The 2 pin didn’t even fit the max’s with backlight when I installed mine

 

If you're able, the swap to OEM LEDs is really simple. Unfortunately they're expensive unless you find someone selling a used pair. You won't really be able to use those DD bars while driving, unless there's no one else on the road.

 

My pros have two pins. Haven’t installed them yet.

 

Two pins = no backlight.

 

What do I need to install the Pro’s? Anything other than a stubby Philips?

 

Assuming you go in from the bottom like I did, you will also need a 10mm socket to remove 3 fasteners in the front of each inner wheel well liner as well as 3 on each side along the bottom. Then you'll need that stubby Phillips to remove / reinstall the fasteners actually holding the light assembly in.

 

I confused by the directions. They say to reuse the OEM brackets. But there are new brackets included with the lights. So… ?

 

I think you use the new brackets, but re-use the factory hardware (i.e. screws)
