We have settled on the KMC 717 Bully wheel.

The specs are 8.5" wide, 0mm offset and 4.75" of backspace. I will be running them with 285/70 Nitto Ridge Grapplers. I will also be running a 2.5"+ lift. I would prefer to not have to do a BMC, does this wheel combo seem like a good candidate for no BMC?

I ran 285’s with just the front fender liner nip and tuck per the Toyota service bulletin. I do not understand why some people are having to remove mud flaps and do the BMC. My guess is aftermarket rims are the culprit.

Hey Slopemaster. I know from another post that you ran the TRD Pro rims with the 285’s, yes? And for OP’s benefit, I’ll say that the TRD Pro rims are 7” wide with a +4 offset. Can you say which tires those were, and whether you had any lift? UCA replacement?

Also, I see in your signature that you’ve gone back to 265’s - is that right? What made you go from 285s to 265s?

0 offset is good. If you get your caster at the maximum spec, you should be able to get away with just a little trimming.

Either aftermarket mudflaps, or an adjustment to the fender liners might be necessary. But, I'm pretty sure a lot of people run 285's without a BMC.

I think the biggest problem is when people switch to a negative offset wheel, or use wheel spacers. It's a lot easier to fit tires with a 0 offset, or a small positive offset like the OEM wheels. I rubbed on stock size tires due to a -6mm offset.

Hi. I have a 2020 SR5 2wd. We ordered some Icon wheels that are 17×8.5 0 offset. We are looking at the Toyo AT3. I was considering the 275/70/17 which only comes as an E ply in that size. The other option is staying with the 265/70/17. The tire may still look slightly bigger being an all terrain. Would the 265 be the better option mpg wise and to prevent rubbing? I honestly don't even know if a 275 would affect it that much.

In the AT3, if you want a slightly taller size without the weight and the load of the 275, you should look at 255/75-17, it’s a C load and weighs 48 lbs. it shouldn’t have as much of a mpg impact as the 275 size. Just FYI.

For the record, I run the same tire in stock size on 17x8.5 0 offset wheels and it’s an excellent tire but took a slight hit in mpg .5 - 1.0 from my calculations. No rubbing and no vibrations issues. Once I get my lift installed I’ll probably move up to the 255 size when the time comes. I only have 10k miles on my tires now and have no signs of wear whatsoever.

Do you have pics of yours posted? I thought that the AT3 in the 265/70 comes in an SL load as well. I'm just trying to decide what to order taking advantage of the small sale at Discount Tire.

BTW... what's all this crazy talk about MPGs??? I come from the Jeep world and once you start modding you know you throw the already horrible MPGs out the window and enjoy what you are doing... lol.

Lol. A few mpg’s adds up over 200k miles or so for us 4R owners. Jeep owners don’t have that concern!

I’m a former Jeep owner myself, 1980 CJ7 with 35’s. I know the pain. That one made it past 200k miles but it was far from original when I got there…..new engine, tranny, diff, pumps, you name it. It would be a great weekend beach cruiser now but I wouldn’t want to DD that beast.

The CJ is a very rough platform to work with. The only one left in our stable is a '91 YJ factory A/C and auto sitting on F150 axles and 37s. I just broke the driveshaft Saturday on an obstacle... lol.
