    That’s interesting that the diff drop affected your alignment.

    After my escapade with the spacer lift, I put my 4R back to stock. But I still enjoy learning about the suspension, and the pros and cons of a lift.

    No problem. There’s a lot of moving parts (no pun intended) and interactions when modifying a vehicle that need consideration. I got tired of pulling my hair out trying to make the right decisions to gain a couple of inches of ground clearance and returned it to stock.

    But I do love to see a tutorial how to fit 285/70R17 with no lift + no aftermarket uca + no body mount chop on a 5gen 4Runner.

    I know people say this in theory but don't see anyone doing it practically and use offroad. I'm thinking about this (challenge) a little to see if I can fit 285/70R17 to the TRD Pro with just cutting the front bumper. But I extremely need my mud flap with all the dirt road traveling I do. Even with mud flaps it was scary to see what the small rocks did to my old OME shocks. It looked like sand blasted. I just started my conversation with my 4x4 tech friend and he doesn't like it yet. Not sure how much we can push the tire forward with stock uca.

    Fitting 285s..... Instead of spending the $750, on shocks and coils. Why not just start out with spending some of that money at a fab shop and have them do a bmc or relocate the mount... then its just minor plastic trimming to fit the 285s....


    Those diff drop brackets are interesting...

    I enjoy his videos.

    Sorry, that is a no from me sir. Not even if its $5.

    If I cannot do with just plastic trimming I would keep 265s.

    It’s for that reason I really like the tinkerer videos. He’s does an excellent job sorting all that out for easily confused amateurs like me.

    The only thing is, his videos are pretty high test, so I really need to be paying attention carefully. Otherwise, it’s in one ear, and out the other.

    Tinkerer....is pretty good with his fundamentals and physics explanation....I think his video exaggerates the Pressure x Velocity example he is using....but ok, he can have his explanation using that. I won't get into that else we would be doing an academic exercise. In short, I see diff drop as an insurance policy, a "maybe", kind of thing....so that's why I got one on mine. Perhaps not needed but I think it can only help.

    What I like about his videos is that he distills it down to “what are you actually gaining”. Going from 265/70/17 to a 285/70/17 is a 1 inch taller tire, but only a 1/2 inch in vehicle clearance, or a 1/4 inch lift more than a 275/70/17. Is a BMC worth the price of gaining 1/4” in lift? I do like the look of 285s on the 4Runner, I’m just not willing to do a BMC on vehicle I don’t own outright, and only has 2,000 miles on it.

    I totally agree, he is the first YouTube’r that I watch the same video several times to get the information to soak in.

    I do not have it, but my truck is modified and the CV angles look good and the suspension sits nearly midway (in terms of travel). If I went a more conventional route, I'd still probably opt out.

    Kai is active on FJ forums (fjcruiser forums) too, he has some really good (technical) posts. I think his advice is worth considering.
