Hello From SoCal!

Been wanting a 4runner for the last 7 years or so, and earlier this year I finally pulled the trigger on a TRD pro. Its been long awaited and super stoked to build this thing up.

If anyone has any tips on first useful mods - Itd be much appreciated!
Mainly just do some dispersed camping on the weekends, so weekend warrior and daily driver. Been doing some wheeling as well here and there, but not looking to get into that heavy rock crawling.

My advice…get out and figure out what you need. Depending on the trails you plan on tackling, I would at least suggest upgrading tires. You don’t need the most expensive gear or crazy suspension to go out and enjoy the outdoors. You’ll be surprised what a relatively stock 4Runner can do

 

Congrats on the new ride! Get it tinted, get the glove box and center console armrest organizers to start with….

First advice is, keep your suspensions stock. If you're going to replace, go with a full set of suspension, no spacer lift. For your first mods, I'd recommend a good ceramic tint and PPF the front end including headlights, or entire vehicle, then ceramic coat. I'd also recommend selling off your TRD skid and replacing it with a skid that has an oil filter opening. If you do plan to take your truck to the dealer for an oil changes, you can remove just that plate (keep it with you) so the tech working on it wont be able to use an impact wrench to install your skid plate and strip, cross thread all your hardwares.

I have done exactly that so far - I am keeping my suspension until I replace in long term down the road. Paid for this, so might as well ride it out as long as I can.
I got my front end all the way up to the rear view mirrors wrapped with PPF (all I could afford at the time), but I might consider getting the sides of the vehicle since I already got plenty of pinstripes from wheeling.
Wow good advice on the skid plate - I will definitely be doing this from now on. I have read some nightmares of damaged hardware from dealerships using power tools on nearly everything. Thanks for looking out!

 

@blksubykid I have actually been pretty surprised with the stock tires, the Nitto Terra Grapplers. I have already hit some semi techy trails, no major rock crawling tho, highest difficulty was about a 6-7 that I took this baby on.

I have been contemplating if I should swap these out sooner or later. I am currently prioritizing all mods that are more functional to my weekend fun.
So Far, Ive gotten some rock sliders, upgraded fogs, full interior led light upgrade, Wescott preload collar lift (just for additional clearance and keeping my stock suspension), and installing a roof rack this weekend.

I think next on my list is either Molle panels and shelf in the rear (need storage organization for weekend camping), Upgrade Tires to 285s, or Additional lighting (ditch lights or hidden light bar in grill - I tend to roll up to campsites late night so this is a plus for me)

Decisions decisions... but all such a exciting process.
