I just picked up a 96 with 260k, gonna put some miles on it so I know I can trust it on a drive down there. After that, I'll be down there fishing as much as possible.

Ive got a 96 as well. 213K. Since I dont know anyone else with a 96, just out of curiosity, do you have a 12v outlet in your trunk? I dont. I assume the 96 came without. My 98 had one.

I don't believe so. I'll double check. My old Forester had one, but I actually never used it. Just recently bought a small Duracell power converter from Target so I can run from either the cigarette lighter or connect to the battery.

Anyone know of some spots to do some off-roading that's kind of local?

Anyone ever been to Portsmouth Island NC? I'm thinking of planning a fishing/camping trip out there later this summer.

The thread isn't too old. LOL Checking in from Chantilly, VA. There seems to be a lot of folks from surrounding areas of NOVA. It would be fun to a run to Peters Mill. I went a few years back with my F150 (sadly deaceased now).

They graded out Peters Mill a few years ago...it's like driving on a dirt road now for the most part. :-(

If folks haven't been to the Flagpole Knob/Union Springs area outside of Harrisonburg and are in NOVA, that spot is worth checking out. It is about 3 hours from the Fairfax County Courthouse according to google. While it is by no means extreme, it will give you an idea how capable your 4R is. I did it in my 08 FJ with stock highway tires and no lift (although to be honest it was a ton less stressful once a lift and real tires went on, lol).

Green Ridge state forrest in western MD has some decent fire roads with plenty of opportunities to get in 4x4

Green ridge is open unless it's a storm or storm damage. Sections can get closed, but for the majority its open.

Central VA myself, a NoVa transplant.

Just throwing this out there, I recently came across a Facebook group in RVA for Toyota trucks and 4Runners. There are frequent trips by members to various locations: .

Just throwing a little more out there for the VA folks. This past weekend we went to Flagpole Knob in GWNF. What a freakin' blast!
I am still totally amazed at what these trucks can do with little to no modification.

This is our group: Here's a vid, posted with full permission from the admin that took it:

I would like to share this event and I am looking to meet up with other members. Obviously this is not a wheeling event or even racing but I think this would be a nice hang out for the overlanders.
    http://virginiacraftbrewers.org/pos...VIR-Craft-Beer-Fest-e28093-August-3-2019.aspx
I have a request specifically out for information on off pavement, no hook up camping and if I get any likes or replies I will share what VIR has replied.

VIR’s response to my request for car camping:
Your car camping will be considered tent camping and will be a fee of $35 for the weekend. You will be able to camp at any location that is not blocked off. We have no reserved camping during that event.
Festival tickets are $30 and camping passes can be purchased at the gate.

Looking to revive the Virginia thread!

I'm in Northern VA, Chantilly area to be exact. Just got my 4R a few months ago and trying to find some areas to get off-road and some people to wheel with.

I’m rollin out to the Shenandoah river for smallmouth bass next month after turkey season. It’s a great off-road trail with some obstacles and hill climbs that lead to the river.... not very well known....it’s National Forest..

Sounds like a great time! I've never had much luck turkey hunting, I usually stick with deer and (when I'm back home in NY) duck hunting too.
