I traded in my 4Runner today. Picked up a 2019 Tundra Limited Double Cab in black. I've never had a black vehicle before this one, and never really thought I would. But I've been casually shopping for a Tundra for a month or so, and this one spoke to me. I'm 50/50 geeked about the new truck and missing the Runner. I gave it a kiss on the nose and said thanks before I drove off. We're looking to buy a camper and some property, and here in Colorado, the Tundra is the better option. Thanks to great resale value on the 4Runner, my payments are cut nearly in half, so I should be able to pay it off fairly quickly. Bonus.

Plans for the Tundra are minimal. I've ordered cat shields, and will order a new set of wider running boards so the doggo will have an easier time getting in. No lift/wheels/tires/sliders for now, but I'll modify it eventually. I have a difficult time keeping things stock. I'll need a rack in the bed for my hang glider too. I know the gas mileage will suck - there's a reason it has a 38 gallon tank! But I factored that into the due diligence so I'm OK with it. It's not like the Runner is fuel efficient!

All in all, I'm a happy camper with a new vehicle to figure out. Should be a fun ride...

Nice looking truck! I really like the shorter cab style.

I bet the gas mileage hit is worth it for the sound alone!

I went from a 5th gen to the Tundra. Occasionally I do miss it but then reality kicks in…lol. I wouldn’t go back….

When I drove the 4Runner aggressively it wouldn’t get much better mpg’s than the Tundra IMHO.

    Beautiful truck and good luck!

Yep, same user name. The cool thing is that with Tundras and 4Runners both being Toyota, a lot of the ideas on the forums for one try apply to the other. I read a thread on diff breathers on Tundras and it was something that was on my list of mods for the Runner, though I didn't get it done.

Nice. I'm Tundra234 on that side. I pop in here every now and then since I have a 2020 4R as well. The Tundra side is alot more active....hard to keep up with all of the threads sometimes lol.

That is a NIIIICE looking truck..!! Congratz..!!:101010: You have a big usable truck bed with the double cab. The only problem I had with the double cab is the full size car seat.

Thank goodness they upgraded the gas tank to 38gal vs what they had previously. This is a big deal and a big factor why I don't like GX & LC here in the US having tiny gas tank that is good for V6 on a V8 vehicle.

I have a feeling you can go for a pretty bigger size tire without a lift with that amount of space.

Do you have a garage that fits the Tundra? The only thing I hate in CO is hail.

Thanks! I almost bought an 2021 SR Longbed, but wanted a little more bling (heated seats!). My half of the garage is filled with my FJ-40, so this one will have to brave the elements, for now at least. I may try to sell
the 40, but I'm so emotionally attached to it I'm having trouble with that idea. Hail sucks, but that's a problem for insurance I guess. I had an FJCruiser that got thrashed by hail. I really don't want to go through that process with the insurance any time soon!

    That's a nicely mod'd DC, Runner!

Well, I'm back in the 4Runner! I found a shit ton of rust underneath. Scaley, flaky rust. I didn't feel as though it would be safe to tow with the Tundra, so I returned it. The dealer tried to dissuade me a few times, so I had to mention the words lawyer and unsafe a few times. Here's some pics of the rust - hard to believe this is on a 2019 truck!

That is sad for a 2019. Glad you were able to return it.

Interesting salt residue collection. I can't believe a reputable dealer/salesperson would let that go off the lot.

I *almost* have the wife convinced to trade her Tuscon rather than the Runner, but it might cost me a new entertainment system. The horror...

I think the dealer guys were surprised by the amount and severity of the rust too. The rest of the truck was in excellent condition.

Tundra #2, but this one is a keeper...it's been a long time since I've had a stock truck!

No, it's Stapp north of Denver. Auto Nation is great for Crew Max cabs, not so much on Double Cabs!

What were the lift and wheel/tire specs on the 4R? The 4.0 struggle with it at all?

No struggle even here in Colorado. I could accelerate at 70+ going over the passes. The gas mileage suffered, but the Runner didn't have a problem.
