Recommended to put KO2 on my spare?

I'm wondering if it makes sense to get a KO2 to put on my spare tire in case of a flat? I'm not sure what the tire is on my full spare but guessing a Dueler. I'm going to be offroading in Baja for 10 days and am getting concerned. Any recommendations? Would this be overkill?

 

Me personally prefer to have 5 matching tires.

But, TRD Pro only come with 4 All Terrain tires. So spare tire is not a matching tire. So may be its not too bad.

 

I'd prefer a matching spare as well. It's probably not going to be an issue.

 

I’d worry more about the load range being the same. If you have p rated ATs I think the factory spare is fine. If I change to C or E tires I like a matching tire load at least. I’ve bought 1 used tire from Discount for the spare before.

 

Very interested how load index impact. I thought only different circumference will impact the differential. Am I wrong?

 

The circumference impacts awd more so than other trims. My concern is that if you need the load capacity or toughness of an LT tire, now the spare is the weak point.
For a normal P rated, you’re mainly sacrificing the improved traction.

 

Trd Pro is not necessarily the pinnacle of off road readiness, lol.

All Wranglers, Broncos, Raptors, Power Wagons etc come with matching spares, so....

For mall crawling I think it's fine, for a long trip heading to potentially remote destinations, I'd want a matching spare. I'd probably even try to carry a second spare. Just my .02.

 

Check the date code on your spare. I replaced my SL AS Dueller that was 8 years old. I chose a stock size XL AT that matches my other 4 tires in case I ruin a tire. Once home get another AT tire to match.

 

I'm not hardcore or anything so a spare only matching in spec (or acceptable for the 4Runner application) is good enough for me. (assuming it isn't too old, bald, etc.)

If you expect to tackle a lot of rocks I'd get a similar style or matching A/T. I personally grabbed a second all-season spare for extra margin of error.
