You guys need to get Narcan'd or was it not quite that bad?

Would you mind summarizing how you were exposed? Search revealing a substance that went airborne as you manipulated it or...?

I had very minor symptoms. We found the dope in his pockets. He started fighting and put it in his mouth. I dropped him and tried to use pressure points to get him to open his mouth. He screamed and I almost got it. He bit down on the bag and grabbed the other side with his teeth. He ripped it open and powder went flying. Wind was in our direction. I got it in my mouth. All symptoms were gone in a few hours

Damn that's one dumb mother fucker to try and swallow a bag of fentanyl. Glad you are code 4. What sort of symptoms did you experience?

Make sure you write a real good report about it. Otherwise your next urinalysis is going to be a PITA. Higher-higher has NO sense of humor about that stuff.

ha!! Exactly! That’s what my sgt said. We had EVERYONE show up when they found out we were exposed. Even the assistant chief made and appearance.

Damn. Ok. Kind of interested in the "low level" side effects, basically all you hear is the really bad effects from major exposure so I kind of wondered about the lower non-fatal stuff. What was the treatment? Just monitor you, fluids?

initial was just to clean off our heads and face with water. I just dumped two water bottles over my head. Then yes, monitored for a few hours and then home we went.

I didn't have to get narcan'd. I was patting an alleged criminal down, had a baggy of a white powder like substance that was open in his front left pocket. Turned out being fentanyl. I've dealt with the dude multiple times before and he usually has drugs/paraphernalia on him so I was pretty cautious searching him. We dealt with a guy a few months ago that worked in a fentanyl lab. Dude was covered in it. The new thing around here is fentanyl skittles. They look just like the candy skittles. It's funny to see an obvious dirt bag junky with skittles in his pocket and him claiming they're just candy.

They took my Vic away. I've literally driven the last body style Vic my entire career. I started in 97 and that body came out in 99.

I guess I can still drive the last Vic we have, but they stripped the radar and MDT and pulled the gas card to make it inconvenient, so it looks like I'm in a 22 Explorer. This thing is an uncomfortable piece of shit. Plus the interior and dash looks like it was designed in 1982 by someone with macular degeneration, using some weird kind of plastic made from melted down GI Joes.

Not happy. The Vic was like the only good thing left about being a cop. Maybe I can buy it at auction...

They are phasing out the Vic’s for us as well. If they break AT ALL they are done. You’ll end up liking the explorer. It’s all I drive. They are pieces of shit . You will find out quickly they break A LOT. Stupid stuff. Side mirrors and windows like to randomly stop working and the throttle lag is hard to get used to.

Handing is AMAZING. And they are QUICK. They are limited at 134mph (not that I have tested that.) All wheel drive comes in pretty handy. AWD is fun around corners. There is nothing as fun as an AWD sideways slide when running code 3.

There is no way they will last as long as the crown Vic’s did. The 7700 series are our ‘22’s and half of them are already out because something is broken.

My 2016 Explorer is due to be replaced this year, but the 2022 replacement was due in June. However, still no word yet on when it’ll be in the up-fitting cue.

Hey, non LEO question for the Michigan Man, we're going to da UP for a camping trip this coming week. 3 nights. I'm thinking night 1 around Whitefish Pt, night 2 at the rocket range on the Keewenaw, night 3 dunno. I want to try and find some ORV routes I ran on a bike years ago, High Water Truck Trail and other stuff around (IIRC) Two Hearted River.

Any thoughts / advice / baller destinations? We'll be in the 4R and reasonably self sufficient. I plan on getting an ORV permit on the way up. Snowmobile trails are good to go as long as we meet the width requirement, yeah?

Oh also - Is Pictured Rocks worth seeing if we don't go out on a boat and stay on land?

I retired after 27 years in the Uncle Sam's Misguided Children (USMC). I don't think they could pay me enough money to put up with people's sheer stupidity and entitlement. I salute all LEO's for their courage and desire to make the USA a better and safer place to live!

The United Socialist Military Community? :p :rimshot:

Sorry. I couldn't resist. I only did 10 years. Dead MOS. F-4 Phantom II Radar Tech, I level. I could have cross-decked into F/A-18C Radar, but it just wasn't the same. And I didn't want to spend 8-10 months a year afloat. Thanks, but no thank. Besides, a job opened up just as the last F-4 squadron crossed over, so I got out, and doubled what I was making. AVI-C7 school really payed off big, and no student loans! :muscleflexing:

Anywho, stay safe, keep up your shooting and hand-to-hand skills. You may need them some day, who knows?

Yes, Pictured Rocks is worth the trip.

I’m in the Northern part of the LP & don’t get to the UP too often outside of work.

I’ve never snowmobiled in the UP, but I’ve heard many are county seasonal roads. If it’s marked as a seasonal road you’re good to go. I’d suggest getting a DNR ORV Map when you get your ORV permit.

For the Northern Lower Peninsula I’d suggest heading over to Sleeping Bear National Park & the greater Leelanau County area. If your spouse/travel partner is a wine connoisseur there are also several vineyards to tour in the area.

From there, if you continue south along the shoreline there are the Silver Lake sand Dunes.

Both Ludington & Muskegon have very nice State Parks for camping.

    Hey ya'll.

Since the Fentanyl thing came up, I just want to chime in here with my SME opinion...

Firstly, it sounds like the members in this thread reacted exactly how they should... you reacted accordingly to the threat and handled the situation appropriately... and you made sure you got to go home at the end of your shift.

Now, what I'm about to say can sometimes produce knee-jerk push back, but I ask that you hear me out...

Unfortunately, we've been doing our officers a disservice with a lot of fear-mongering related to Fentanyl, and we should be doing a better job teaching the less experienced officers who look up to us. The truth is that the threat of Fentanyl to public safety is not as high as we sometimes teach... and most (if not all) of the cases of those "near-death overdoses" that we hear about in the news are in fact panic attacks related to the officer believing they were in mortal danger. The result is that they end up becoming a liability to their teammates exactly when we might need them to stay in the fight. (Imagine the rookie who gets some OC in the face and starts hyperventilating and shutting down while you're rolling around in a wrestling match.)

Not accusing anyone here of anything, but I wanted to mention this since you all seem pretty level-headed and might be able to pass the information along.

Here is an article from Science that links to studies about public safety exposures and the relative minor threat fentanyl plays: fainting-fentanyl-exposure-nope

Let me be clear: This is not to say that I want any responder to treat any potential exposure lightly... we need to worry about yourselves first and foremost. If you are concerned about any drug exposure, you should seek medical consult and treatment immediately. If you believe you have had a potentially harmful exposure to an opiod, then by all means self-administer Narcan and get help.

If anyone wants to further pick my brain about this, or is upset about what I said and would like a copy of my CV in an attempt to prove I don't know what I'm talking about, I'm happy to share in a PM...

You might want to look into a trip to Drummond Island as well. It's a short ferry ride from the eastern end of the UP. Lots of trails, remote beaches, camping and exploring.

I got into a pretty good scrap last night/this morning and am sore as fuck today hahaha. Dude had atleast 75 lbs on me and I'm not a small guy. Nobody got hurt and once he realized I had him pretzled up he mellowed out quite a bit.

Thanks for the Michigan tips. We were doing specifically the UP but we might check out some of the LP tips another time. Had a fun time, 4 days, 3 nights, just banging around and camping with no actual agenda of any sort.

Picked this up today. Glock 21SF Holosun 509T. Going to do some frame work and stipple it. Waiting on a duty holster from Red River but will be my new duty gun soon.

Very nice. Optics are the way to go. Anyone fighting them on duty pistols needs to get out of the way for the rest of us to move on with our lives.

    Here's my current setup.

We are making the transition as well to optics. As of now, it’s mostly SWAT guys.
