    @Thatbassguy because OP stated $1000/month gas bill was one of the reason why he switched. I'm saying he wasn't near $1000/month.

    @TX4runner21 I am using $6.50 as a worst case scenario. Worst case scenario OP spent 30% less than what he claimed to have been spending per month on gas.

    Nearly three years into my 4Runner, and I still find myself trying to rest my hand on my old Jeep Liberty's parking brake. If I knew I'd miss it this much, I'd have pulled it out of the Jeep and duck taped it to the side of the 4Runer's center console or something.

    He's nowhere close. If you count under 30% as not close.

    The light snow is da bomb. All in all gimmicks, I’m more interested into the driving experience.
    Will try camping mode next weekend - hopefully we can go away.

    A small note for these peeps concerned about the mpg: google GTA Highway 401. You’ll understand how easily you do $1000/month. Busiest highway in North America, probably in the world. Very common to do 20 miles in 1, 1 1/2 hrs
    It’s not all about distance driving. Stop and go kills the mpg.
    Not everything is a conspiracy theory, not everything is set in stone.
    But 200 miles for $4 usd ain’t bad, is it ? No matter how bad my math is off, is nowhere close to charging at home.

    Planning a trip in November: farmland - Toronto - Cleveland - Nashville - Tampa - Cleveland - Toronto - farmland in 10 or 11 days. If office approves all vacations, we are a go. That should clear and cure any range anxiety…

    Still not following you on how $6.5 is worst case scenario when he said he paid more than that. Also you're not considering idling, traffic, etc. It's a poor attempt to try to dissect his argument.

    Life expectancy of the battery?
    I have a almost 33yr old 4wd 4R that has never been back to the dealer and just once to an independent shop for a bad spark plug wire(I feel stupid). Paid $12,999 for it new in 1990.
    It is slow, quiet and comfortable and showing no signs of stopping.

    Let’s say if it was a EV with a 8yr battery life I would be on my 5th battery pack right now. Would it been worth it? I doubt it, it would have gone to the crusher a long time ago. I also doubt the majority of EVs will get the 8yr battery life I used in this example.

    You're also assuming everyone is going to hang onto vehicles for 33 years, you're the exception not the rule. Some toyota people change cars more frequently than their underwear. And how many miles do you have on it?

    We don’t know about battery shelf life yet. It is a new word, at least for me. We will see in 8 years or 200.000km. Times will definitely change by then. Tesla could be dead and gone or be the king of the roads. This is a risk we took and we will suffer the financial consequences or rip the rewards of an excellent vehicle.

    Till then, my first charge since Friday. Car came at ~96%, today it was at 46%. We drove 200km (125 miles) - well, not driving, but pedal to the metal at every light, every stop sign. Plain stupid driving just to enjoy the mad acceleration. So we charged at home for 3 hours, the 50% of the car stats:

    Insane performance driving for 125 miles cost us $3 cad. That’s about $2.19 usd - (1.75 cents/mile). I expect this to get much lower as I will start driving normally again, can’t afford another speeding ticket.
    The price is slightly higher than what I can set in the app as the kW is 8.2 cents and the app won’t let me break the price that much so I set it at 9. Off peak 8.2c (set at 9c), mid peak 11.2c (set at 12c) and on peak 17c.

    We did talk about the 4Runner and we miss it bit.

    More to come soon. Supercharger prices are definitely and significantly higher, probably a little better or on par with a Corolla driven like an old lady; or at least so I read about California prices.

    @Jynarik this is just as FYI, first time we charged an EV. Not sure what to expect in the long run

    Sounds good to me. I’ll bet there were similar naysayers back when people were transitioning from the horse and buggy to the first motorized vehicle. Most people resist change, human nature. Good on you for stepping out and embracing the inevitable future.

There is obviously a lot to figure out but they will and it will happen. I don't want one right now but I'm certainly not going to knock a guy for trying it. Good for you!

    Just 280k, The first +200k were hard miles, mostly urban stop-go/bumping off curbs(a lot), it was mostly a soccer mom car, essentially my wife’s car the first 14yrs. Since then it is my around town/4 wheeler/spare vehicle.
    Not assuming anything, just making a comparison. I have nothing against EVs. My son was a production line trouble shooter Mechanical Engineer MS at the Fremont plant for 5yrs and helped turn the Model 3 production around and I was very proud of it.
    Line workers on the Model X line wrap the front of their boots heavily with duct tape as not to scratch the door/jam when they wedge it in the door closure and have another worker push and bend the door to fit. Unlike the Japan 4R assembly line, if a Tesla worker has a problem and stops the line he is drawn and quartered where in Japan it is expected of the worker to address quality problems.
    That said, I just think they cannot compete head to head with ICEs…..yet. When battery tech/recharging infrastructure reaches that point I will probably own one myself.
    Right now if you had a 8yr old EV with a spent battery and wanted to trade or sell it, it would be similar to trading/selling a ICE vehicle with a bad engine. How much value would it have? The battery replacement cost needs to be factored in with the gas savings over that time period just like ICE maintenance cost.
    I have yet to replace the engine on the 4R or even pull the head, just timing cover/crank seal, timing chain/guides, water pump, clutch, exhaust donuts, valve cover gaskets, spark plugs/cap&rotors and a TPS, all for less than $500….in 33yrs. I would be willing to bet suspension, brake, steering replacement parts are much more expensive and not as available on a Tesla than a 33yr old 4R.
    I did not want to create any animosity, just wanted to point out the current EVs have some drawbacks that ICEs don’t have.
    Battery technology is still evolving and are very expensive to replace.

    Edit: forgot, new CVs but now with the selectable hubs the new ones should last a very long time.
