I got so much :crapstorm: for flying to Baltimore from Dallas to buy a SR5 for 18K. For my circumstances it did not make sense to buy a 55/65K Truck to go run it in mud holes and leave with emotional damage. If money was not a thing, sure, id love a TRD Pro with all the options.

The biggest issue is FOMO. Too many people getting a rig and not even take it offroad and enjoy some of the nature around them. Not pissing on anybody for driving a Runner as a lifestyle truck, its just IF the payment is killing you and you havent gone to some trails, you're kind of getting screwed twice.

Kind of like paying to go to Bali and you never leave the hotel to go to the beach.....

No drugs, just criminals knowing people are about to struggle and they want to take advantage of the situation.

Edit: But I did hear Rick James say once that Cocaine is a hell of a drug.........

This. And, probably trying to make up for the ones they overpaid for that they can't sell.

And one only truly "made money" if you just sold it and walked away. If you needed to sell it and buy another vehicle (new or used), the wildly inflated prices more than made up for what you thought you were making.

Absolutely. I did the Carvana/Carmax investigation last year, and they both offered $5k+ over what I paid new, but what was the point? I didn't need a new vehicle, and if I did, it cost way more than I paid in 2019. Plus, all the newer vehicles are rife with electronic nannies, which I hate.

+1 on this. I have driven rental 4Runners in the 2020 and 2021 model years, and I hated that stuff. I find it very annoying.

It already is. I've been keeping an eye on used Pro prices over the last year because I've been debating selling mine. Used prices have dropped a ton in the last 9 months.

But even more interesting is the number of nearly new Pros for sale - there are currently 8 used 2022 TRD Pros for sale in the Seattle area, most of them with under 5k miles and none of them with more than 12k miles. And 50 Pros if you look at all model years.

(Throw in all the other models and the used inventory is stacking up pretty quickly.)

There is literally no difference between a 2018 and 2022 (have had both) don't like the nanny features don't turn them on, it's that simple. Literally nothing beeps or goes off to warn me to takes over my driving on my 2022 but then again I know how to drive so maybe the computer feels like it doesn't have to for me? Now if only I can get rid of those pesky power door locks and windows I stay up all night wondering when it will fail on me

Yeah, I agree with this. I've always been a "simpler is better" type, which is why I DD a '06 Tacoma with stick shift, roll-down windows, manual locks, bench seat, etc. But my '21 4R is pretty simple too, and the electronics seem on par with Toyota quality and reliability. Haven't had any issues with "nanny" features beeping or trying to drive for me, and I never really bother turning that stuff off because it isn't intrusive at all.

You know what's funny is I have a 2010 tacoma 5 speed 4x4 single cab 4 cylinder and lime yours it's as basic as it gets (bench seat, manual windows and locks no cruise control etc) and here's how I see it. Yes I like simplicity as well but honestly I wish I had power windows and door locks and cruise control on my tacoma. If I had power windows would the motor go out? Yes I'm sure but what once every 15 or 20 years? I would gladly have convenience especially when someone tries to have me roll down the passenger side at a red light etc and have to change out the motors every 15 to 20 years.

Also if you have an orp with moonroof your moonroof motor is pretty much guaranteed to fail in the next 20 years as well (look at all the 3rd gens 90 percent of them don't have functioning moon roof)

    I wouldn't worry about this.

I had an 85 Celica, 85 Supra, 87 MR2, 94 4Runner, and others. I have never had a power lock or window fail on any of them.

Unfortunately, to curb inflation. Interest rates have to go up.
Its a buyers market now everywhere.
The current interest rate is a deal breaker taking any unnecessary loans now.

I feel you @Tmiesowicz. If unhappy with what you have now.
Every new vehicle (some) will have glitches.

Best test drive , test drive and test drive before taking delivery. I didn't unfortunately (because was thrilled been able to get a T4R by just walking into a dealership at MRSP in Feb 2022).

One of the main reasons I bought a brand new 4R was price and to take advantage of a highly inflated trade in. The dealer told me they would honor the offer they made on my 2013 Ford Escape with 44k miles when my truck was delivered, if it ever was. That was on January 8 of this year.

I waited 8 months for delivery and thought for sure they would try to negotiate again but they didn’t. They held to their word.

But if it wasn’t for that I wouldn’t have done it. Payments are expensive! I’m not rich lol!

I agree. Unless you really need a new vehicle, I would hold on to it right now. Things are going to get considerably worse very soon.

well they needs tires. the Bridgestone revo HTs that came with my ORP are like sending a solider out to battle with full gear except instead of combat boots they are wearing slippers. totally stupid that they sell that trim with highways.

Oh, I agree. I don't consider real tires a modification, though. :D. My Dunlops were gone 18 days after I bought mine.

Yep... Seems dumb selling 4WD 4Rs with Bridgestone Duellers. They were not road tested before equipping the trucks from Japan?.
Thankfully mines came with Yokohama's G96

You guys are so lucky to get halfway decent tires OEM. In the northwest, I've only seen them come with the dunflops.

I went to Lexus to consider a trade in for an LX. They had 0 in stock and told me to get on their wait list but that I would be paying $50k over sticker. LOL. I inquired about the GX. Its going for sticker but I hated it after driving it. He told me not to expect near the trade in values people have been talking about, for my 4R. Good chat, salesman.

I sold a car through Carmax. Pretty quick and easy and they honored their quote with no hassle. In checking out various buying sites they always seemed to have the highest offers. Sometimes by a lot.

We bought our 2 current vehicles through carmax. It's just nice to see no BS. It kinda sucks that the few good stealerships are going to be taken down by the bad ones once the smoke clears from the FTC regulations and manufacturer changes like what Ford is doing.

Yeah, at this point that's 70 year old technology, I'm sure the bugs are worked out. Even the 15 year old (97) Grand Cherokee I had never had issues with power locks/windows/keyless entry.

I'd be more worried about the VVTI stuff and 8 feet of timing chain and associated guides in the motor. That just seems overly complicated.

I just checked my 2020 Limited on Carmax. Quote is $39,000. In July 2021 they quoted $46,200. Significant drop, but the higher quote is when the truck was a year old and had about 8K miles. Now it is more than 2 years old and has more than 19K miles. I'd say that change reflects the market cooling, but hardly crashing. If I sold it then I could have owned it a year for almost nothing. If I sell it now now it would have cost me about $7500, or $288 per month to own it. Not bad.

Toyota dealership won’t give me time of day or return calls several months ago. Now they calling, texting and emailing me daily with overpriced 2022 models..

I now hear a slight sucking sound when I drive by the car dealerships. Come early next year that sucking sound of loosing money will only get louder and prices will be reasonable again instead of BS $5k market adjustment price gouging.
