I have an 05 sr5 and the glove box is completely empty, the latch opens and closes just fine, but the box itself wont open up more then 1 1/2-2" inches at the most. it is a newly purchased truck and was working fine at first but then suddenly this happened.

the sides seem clear and nothing is in the way but it feels like its hitting something in the middle at the back of the glove box.

I can only guess that somehow the cabin filter is in the way but im just guessing, because as far as I know its a solid plastic housing above the glove box so I don't think anything else can be in the way

has anyone else ever had this happen to them and are there any known tricks to use to be able to open it? I can even get a hand it to feel around to see what is going on in there and don't want to force it open and break something

well I can feel both "sides" of the box still move, each side I can make flex open about another 3/8", its something in center back that is stopping it from moving.

I cant imagine anything attached to the box itself in the middle back ???

BFH can fix just about anything that wont move lol

but its a friends truck so I don't want to break anything, if I do she will never forgive me, she loves her new 61k mile 05 4runner

if only the hinge screws were accessible to remove from underneath but as far as I can tell, its not

You could try to use an inspection mirror and take a look-see.

that was my plan but she lives 40 minutes away and its not a "friends with benefits" thing so I was hoping I could just tell her what to do lol.

I guess im just gonna have to go drive over there with flashlights, mirrors, and some stiff wire and try to fish out whatever it is or at least maybe push it out of the way enough to get it open

I wanted to come back and give the final results on this, last week I finally got time to stop by there and I went fix it.

turns out there were 2 screws missing from the plastic above the glove box so it sagged in the heat of the sun and jammed the box from opening.

ended up bending and wedging a broken spatchula up in there to get it open and replaced the missing screws and its fixed now.

don't know why the hell somebody took those screws out in the first place but that was the problem with it

oh the door slide wasn't connected either, but that wasn't stopping it from opening

Most likely to access the cabin air filter for replacement.
