I just got a new 16 SR5 yesterday. It's completely stock at the moment obviously. Does anyone have any suggestions on modifications to start with? Specifically good tires and wheels as I'm not a fan of the stock ones?

    Thanks!

I changed some lights, tires and tinted windows...mind blowing huh
I guess that would depend on what you plan to do with it, will it see mostly on road, do you off road often? I'm still on the fence on what tires I want to go with and how long I want to run the stock tires, I think I'd like to run them down a bit more before I switch. I had the original BFG KO's on my Tacoma and I'm thinking of going with the KO2's eventually.

Basically everybody I have talked to has recommended the KO2's, Nitto are also pretty popular though. For wheels, I personally like Method Race wheels.

Side note...I think Im going to have to change my avatar after seeing Jester's lol

Would either of those work without having to lift? I have to park in a garage daily and I noticed going in today that I just barely have clearance in there now. I have maybe 4-6 inches before I'd be hitting the top.

Yeah as long as you stick to the stock wheel and tire size you'll be fine. You shouldn't have any trouble finding the KO2's or any other tire in the stock size.

I like the KO2s I'm just not sure on what size I need to get to avoid a leveling kit or rubbing. I'm going to stick with the stock wheel size and tire though.

Wheel buying is new for me. I had a Jeep prior and everything I wanted came on it as I bought it used!

Any tire shop will be able to set you up with the right size. Anything bigger than the stock size is probably going to rub. Here's a good chart, Im sure its on this forum somewhere too.

Seen those in action, good tires.

I'll toss in my Falken Wildpeak AT3/W also. 265/70/r17 no rubbing with factory lift. Good ride on highway.

Unless you really need new tires or planning to off-road your runner right away stick to them and invest on lift.. couple of good tires out there like the wrangler..

Almost a year later. And about 20k miles on them and they're still almost new. Not the greatest picture of the tires but there they are. In case anyone wants to know, they are wrapped around a set of '06 4runner take offa.

What are you going to do with it? Are you thinking a "mod" like a cell phone holder or a long travel IFS setup with a custom 4 link and remote res. shocks?

Are you going for the bro/mall crawler look, or are you planning to actually take it off road (and how much off road)? Or are you looking for a good daily driver? What do you do with it, what do you carry in it?

Goodyear Wrangler Duratracs came with our new '16 Trail and in this past, very snowy, winter I have blessed them. Great traction on snow, yet fairly quiet on paved highways. -

What tire did you have before the Wildpeaks? How do they compare?

I had the stock Dunlop GrandTrek AT/20

Ride noise about the same (nod goes to stock tires maybe). Ride roughness about the same (ride quality goes to Wildpeaks, less side to side bouncing). Wildpeaks look MUCH more aggressive. Off road performance much better. On road performance about the same (wildpeaks handle wet weather well...dont' know about snow, don't live where it snows).

Installed Rago brackets and 4" cube ditch lights. Weather tech mats. Cargo net. Cargo mat. Ordered Gobi rack with ladder.
K02's are the way to go. Ride is quite and the tread is aggressive but not over the top.
