Purchased in March and 1st 4WD since 1985 Chev Blazer. Haven't driven much (140 miles), but have enjoyed. The only issue so far is getting the lever transfer (Type A) case into and out of 4WD L4. That is why I found and joined this forum. I've read the manual on 4WD, but the shifting into or out of L4 is not smooth to say the least. My intent is to search threads for 4wd shifting problems, and open a new thread if necessary before going back to dealer.

Welcome to the site Bob, we have some friends that recently moved to Las Cruces and it looks like a really beautiful area.

I want to update my previous issue regarding 4WD. One of the notes in the manual:

    · Drive in four-wheel drive for at least 10 miles each month.
This will assure that the front drive components are lubricated.

Since the new SUV had not been driven 10 miles in 4WD, I put about 15 miles on it yesterday in 4WD H4. Today, I was able to smoothly shift in and out of L4 without any problems. The 4WD indicators on the dash display also help letting you know when you've been successful shifting. I don't use L4 that often, but I now know that it works, and I will continue to try to follow the 10 miles per month in 4WD.

I live in Albuquerque and have a cabin in north central NM. The road into the cabin is steep and rocky, so the 4 Runner's clearance and 4WD will not have a problem. Our kids attended NM State in Las Cruces, I think the best state college in NM. We always enjoyed visiting them.

Welcome aboard Bob. A point to note is that you don't need to go off road to shift into 4wd. You can do it on the pavement as long as there are only gentle turns. - Ted
