I saw that over on taco world they have threads like these so why not here.

    Anyway, im currently running Cooper discover at3 4s 285 70 17s

Pros- deep thread(14/32), lightweight(45lbs), good wet traction, extremely quiet, tread wear is excellent, great all around tire.

Cons- not aggressive looking, took alot of weight to balance, after sitting for a while they flat spot(goes away after a few miles)
,sidewall dents. Actual height underweight, 31.75" with 38psi

I'm curious if others are having these issues.

I'm on the fence about staying with the brand

Did they improve anything with the tires(my are dated 6/18)

So, cooper owners post up a quick review.

I had the original AT/3 on my taco, they are a great tire if you get a good set, had some on the wife’s highlander and they were junk after some miles had to rotate them like crazy to chase the noise away and finally I just sold them and put continentals on it, Cooper are great tires I currently run the AT/W on my 4Runner and love the wet weather and winter performance, I always say function over looks any day I love the look of an aggressive tire but I’d rather have it perform for on road behaviors, if your looking for a better looking tire maybe look at the Falken wide peak or Goodyear wrangler territory or the duratrac ?

I seen some of those not long ago and they are definitely sweet looking asked the driver and he said his were very quiet and worked well last winter in Ohio, I had the Cooper ST Maxx on my Tacoma after getting rid of the AT/3’s those are another great tire moved water like crazy and worked well in winter and were very quite at highway speeds..

I have the p rated at3 on my 4Runner. I don’t have many miles on them but they balanced well and handle better than ko2s. I run the lt E rated at3 on my Silverado. I’ve gotten 70k on both sets and am getting ready to order another. My friend who works at discount tire said the rugged treks were harder to balance and louder than similar tires.

We run Cooper AT3's LT (275-70-17) on the 4Runner, they have been good for us. They are probably not the 'ultra smooth' tire as far as ride, we air them to 37 psi for the road and down to 28 psi on trail, the 10 ply rating is good for the rocks we seem to encounter on the trail. There was a bit of a balance issue, but as it turned out the tire tech who balanced them was at fault, after a rebalance they are good to go! Just bought a set of AT3's for my beater trailbazer they seem good. Ice and snow haven't got a chance with the Coopers, great traction.

Have Discoverer S/T MAXX 275x70x17's W/23k on them. Very happy W/Them. Found out last Friday went swapping boat trailer tires around wheels(whole different story) where I bought the Cooper's that Good Year now owns Cooper. Glad it wasn't Firestone who bought them. I believe Firestone is owned by Goodrich???

The Rugged Treks have impressed me on & off road. Relatively quiet on the highway & the best off road chops of any at/hybrid I’ve owned over the years. I’m running the 10 ply on my Tundra but they make an XL load better suited for the 4Runner. I ended up going with the General grabber ATx SL load on the 4Runner (due to lighter weight) & have no regrets there. They are plenty aggressive, super quiet (new?) & preserve the softer factory ride.

I have the AT3 on the 4Runner and they are 4 yrs old now and still 1/2 tread. I believe they are hard and terrible in a light rain. Had the newer AT3 on the Tundra and they didn't last 2 years and switched to Michelin. I run Winterforce tires on the 4Runner on a second set of wheels. If I keep the Runner longer it'll get Michelins for new shoes.

I'd like the keep the size i have now(285 70 17) so its tough to find a lightweight all terrain tires, sl or c rated. Also something that balances! Even after the road force balance i still have a slight viberation at 55-60mph.

Maxxis razr at have caught my attention because on tacomaworld, guys are saying the balance perfectly without any weight.

I think there are a bunch of SL rated options in that size. I was looking at the Mickey Thompson Baja boss AT for my next set. Also, I'm very happy with my Toyo AT3's in that size.

There is alot of options, to many. And tire reviews aren't always accurate. Main reason I started this thread.

Its also nice cooper does a 45 day try it period. That way if I can't get them balanced correctly and if it viberates at 50-60mph you can send them back

Cooper has a good reputation. Hopefully Goodyear doesn't screw that up.

If you're interested in a tire from a manufacturer that doesn't offer a trial, Discount Tire has a similar program. I highly recommend them. I was just there this morning learning that I have a hole in one of my rims!

Goodyear, recently released the territory mt, in 285 70 17 and 315 70 17 its offered in c rated, the 285 weighs 45lbs, and the 315 only weighs 54lbs. But the 285s are pricey and the 315s are cheap.

I guess the only responsible thing to do would be to get the 315's, re-gear, and body mount shop. :bananadance:

Edit:. I just took a look at them and they look more like a hybrid than a mud terrain to me. The shoulder lugs look very similar to a DuraTrac.

Dude don't tempt me, I already did the bmc, and gutted the front wheel well. I thought about... but I think 285s are the perfect size tire for the 4runner, you don't have to regear and all the other crap needed to run 35s

I completely agree... Well, sort of.

Sometimes I think I'll go back to 285's on my next set of MT's. Other times, I look at it and think they look too small. o_O

As you said, 285's are a decent upgrade from stock, and don't require much work. But, if I were going to bother with a regear, I'd definitely get 35's.
