Toyota of North Charlotte also charges $5k over MSRP across the board on 4Runners.

I understand that dealerships do not have inventory and they have to make money but how can they start a relationship with a new customer by price gouging them? Many of us will remember and will not shop there in the future.

Byer's Toyota in Delaware, Ohio. Very easy to deal with and did exactly what they said they'd do. We drove 7.5 hours/400 miles one way and they made it easy.

Salinas Toyota, California, now charges $7k over MSRP after being bought last month.

By the way, Scott Clark called me back a few weeks after this exchange. They smugly said, "so I understand you are looking to pay less than MSRP?" I said, no, I want to pay exactly MSRP, and I've got a deposit down with another dealer who will give it to me.

There are plenty of Toyota dealers out there, and even more Ford/Chevy/Jeep/etc. A dealer has one shot at my business. If he tells me he is over MSRP, I will move on - our relationship is terminated right there, on the spot, and probably for good.

Kenny Kent Toyota in Indiana are also a bunch of crooks. They are charging $2500-$5000 over MSRP on basically everything. Jeff Wyler Toyota is basically the same. I am from Kentucky, but these are the closest large volume dealers around. It seems that the Toyota dealerships are gouging customers much worse than the other dealerships.

West herr Toyota by me apparently sells MSRP to locals and charges more for out of state sales.

Got a 2022 TRD ORP at John Elway Crown Toyota in Ontario California for MSRP. The sale person will tell you you have to pay for the over priced dealer installed alarm but just tell the finance guy you don't want it and he will take it off. Most of their 4Runners come packed with dock installed options, I think to run the price up. Mine had TRD Wheels, Exhaust and exhaust tip, Dash Cam, cargo cover, all weather floor mats, roof rack bars, the extra USB's, KDSS, moonroof, premium plus package and the MSRP was like $52865.00

Peppers Toyota in Paris Tennessee - I bought my TRD Pro (Lime Rush) from them in December. Was worth it for wife an I to fly to Nashville. They picked us up at hotel and drove us to dealership. Amy Workman was the salesperson. At the time, locals wanted $15k over, so trip made perfect sense, plus had a great road trip back to Colorado. ;)

Toyota in my opinion should be taking some proactive measures like Ford and GM by penalizing their dealers for those who price gouge. Those dealers will get less allocations and also no access to new hot models.

I wonder those hot shot dealers would think when they are told no 6th Gens for you .

I am fortunate most of the dealers by me are not taking advantage. I would prefer to develop a relationship with them and hopefully buy more vehicles and go to them for service. I did that with Honda for years and was treated great and my friends and family purchased 12 or so cars over 10 years as a result and kept going back.

There is an old saying “what comes around goes around”. It’s pretty simple

None of the msrp dealers in California are taking deposits on a 2023 4runner pro, they told me toyota will cut back production for 2023 (probably artificially on their end to create demand still)

But did GM and Ford really do anything? I heard something about Ford telling dealerships to stop, but not sure any did.

Who cares? This never shows everything anyway.
Because demand = money in their bank and happy customers that may become happy return customers /sarcasm

I know GM did. They told some abusing dealers they would not get the new Lyriq electric until six months after other dealers. That has to sort of burst their bubble.

Probably true but a sales gimmick - they don't have any 4Runners in stock because everything is sold before it arrives, so they're not lying but could still be charging over MSRP for their new 4Runners...

    Perfect as is.
Ford and GM aren’t doing anything and won’t. It’s just all show. Legally they can’t. Dealers are completely separate from manufacturers as crazy as that sounds.

There’s a 60 day period for public comment, then some time for revisions etc. Then who knows how long it takes to actually go into effect and we see any changes. But at least the ball is rolling.

Salinas Toyota is no longer at MSRP, FYI. Sales Department was great but $5k Markup on 2022 TRD ORP Premium. Due to new ownership in July apparently.

Yeah I told the salesman and the used car manager who double teamed me and wanted to buy my T4R to pound sand but if they wanted to give me $40K for mine and knock $10K off the one and only TRD ORP on the lot we could talk.... not a word after that

I bought a 2022 T4R SR5 from Santa Maria Toyota in California on 8/19. I paid just $500 over MSRP due to the anti theft they added. Of course 4x4 stuff is still over MSRP but I was in need of a new car and this SR5 was in stock. I took the train to go pick it up.

I, too, can confirm Salinas is now over MSRP.

I bought a 22 Pro from them last year for MSRP. Today, the same sales person quoted me 15k over.
