Again, I bought the Mustang years ago in 2018 lol. It was the weekend/fun car while I had the 4R.

Mine is always accurate during hand calculating, hand may be 17.4 while dash is 17.6 I consider that pretty solid.

My GT is paid off and was acquired years ago thankfully. ~5mpg better and a smaller tank will keep me budgeted better until I can save up and find a more economical/practical commuter car.

I did it every fill up for a bit, and then I was confident in the #’s, really surprised me. Expected to get shittier MPG

If I'm on the west side outskirts of town (Red Rock) or eastern outskirts (Boulder City) and have some nice open road in front of me, I won't say no to mashing through the gears. But generally on local streets to/from work commute, driving like that will get you into some trouble. Or I'll just attract the attention of some clown in a Civic or something that thinks I'm trying to race them. The lack of rain here, the roads stay so oily and slick, so around town, traction under moderate pedal is an issue. That also keeps me in check :D

The dash readout on my '03 was way off. But, on my '19 it has been consistently very close.

Just using my dash display, I’m showing 19.6 since original reset; probably did it when we first bought it. I am driving stock and mostly flat roads in Florida. Not been off-road enough to change it much. But I know when I was driving the beach for three weeks it was about 10 mpg

Ditto. Occasionally the computer is optimistic by 1/4 mpg or so, and usually so close it’s safe to trust.

I just discount it a few tenths for the fact that the speedometer runs slightly high. I have to assume that means the odometer runs a tad high and thus the actual mileage is a hair lower than you’re putting in when calculating at the pump — and doing the same to the computer’s calculation.

Meaning 60 is 58-59 for you or other way around.

Meaning when the speedometer says 60 you're actually going about 59. It's proportional, so that at an indicated 85 you're actually going about 83. You can check this with GPS. Almost all cars seem to overreport their speed. I had a BMW that did it by closer to 5 mph at highway speeds. The 4R is pretty close.

I imagine this increases a bit with tire tread wear, as each wheel rotation results in less distance traveled.

I noticed this, everyday I pass a school zone radar and im always off by 1-2 mph or so, same with GPS speed app on the phone. My Tahoe is dead on.

That's why you should get 285's. Speedometer is dead on with 285's. Then you don't have to do math.

I never corrected for the discrepancy. But, I do correct for the discrepancy between stock size tires and whatever I have on at the time. That's just to keep everything even when comparing mileage.

That makes a lot of sense and they look better too -- but 285s scare me LOL. I've had enough trouble with steering wheel shimmy going to ATs at the OEM 265! Plus then I'd have too much rub. As it is my stock size tires rub a tad due to having increased the caster. I'm very happy with that tradeoff, but can't see making it worse.

Can’t wait to see how mine persists after ditching the stock duncraps and getting ko2’s

0 shimmy with my 285 Toyo AT3's. :notsure:

Edit: none with 265 KO2's, or 295 Yokohama MT's either. I still think it's a balance or install issue.

Haha! My Dunlops were gone at 1300 miles after I nearly lost it in light snowfall. I went to stock size KO2's in LT/C. They hold up very well with 5 K rotations.

The stock size ko2’s in a C are what I am eyeing up, the place I always go to offered $350 for the Dunlop take off’s if I do it soon ( @3600 miles)

The $350 credit is a pretty good excuse to do it right away. :boink: :D

That’s what I’m thinking as I was told $1350 for the damn things, 2 years ago I paid just under $1000 for 4 265/75r16’s LT E for my tahoe. But you know the economy, I’m helping the economy.

I am sure this 4 runner gets very good fuel economy. My friend is in Florida (or on highway there) and just sent me a picture of this one he saw on the road...I approve!

How many of you guys and gals use the "Fuelly" App? I've been using it for my past 3 vehicles. Love it. It does all the calculations for you. It also keeps track of things like Tire Pressure, City-to-Highway drive ratio, which gas stations you use (and the correlation of which gas gets you the best MPG, etc..), price, cost per mile, etc. If you're a "data whore" like I am, it's a great free app.

    https://www.fuelly.com/car/toyota/4runner/2022

Here's my average over the past 7 months. Every fill-up (65 so far) since brand new.

Not everyone has the time to drive below the speed limit, nor does everyone live in a place where its safe to do so. Drive under the speed limit on I-95 or Texas and you're asking to get killed. Full-Stop.
