He's also here on the forum- he replied right above you. It sounds like the current supply is sold out and he is working on a new prototype, so stick around for updates.

I'm new to the group and am glad I found it. I bought a 2019 runner TRD pro last week and excited about this mod and the other mod by big red. I'll wait patiently for a wiring harness if it comes out because it will be worth the wait....

Will this redesigned be compatible for 2020+ MY?

If i remember correctly you said you were looking at it for the newer 4R but you were pessimistic about it working. Did ou figure it out by any chance? (Hoping you did… :D)

Did you buy a new AMD (Accessory Meter Display) from Toyota or were you able to find a used one?
I’ve been searching online for a used one, with no luck finding the correct one. Also searching Toyota hoping to find one on sale.

I bought one brand new. Near impossible to find a 2014 Trail version used as it was a one year run with the blue color.

So true - "The place has become a pop-up ad billboard forum" Its like a freaking jungle trying to read a simple post and a bunch of ads attacking you from every angle, you need to bring a weed-whacker beforehand to be able to read anything. Very annoying for sure.

    It's a long list...

AMD Video, or general dash disassembly video?

    I won't be making an AMD video for a variety of reasons;

    1) The instructions are pretty clear on how to do the install
    2) If I did, I would have to find a way to host the video. It's not going up on YouTube for free views. I put my stuff up publicly for free once, Not doing that again based on prior experiences.

Now as far as a general dash disassembly video where I walk people through step by step with what tools are needed for removing the glove box, and stuff like that? I'm working on it. Right now work and career goals are taking priority, so the 4R hobby stuff has taken the back burner for the moment.

I have some videos shot, I just haven't had the free time to sit down an "professionally" edit them. I'm hoping to do a "here's the tools you need" and logically go through each step and include a "disassembly checklist" that can be printed that outlines the steps. My only concern with doing videos like those is that some people will watch it and think it's easy and try it when they probably shouldn't. But hey, that's how you learn to work on stuff.

In collaboration - I can help you with the video/editing on how to remove everything to get access to the AMD. I’m currently installing a HU and have removed everything to access all the connectors etc.

I second the above. If anyone is parting with their harness or Old Red is selling another batch I’m in for at least one.

@Old Red you mentioned you had to replace the instrument cluster to get the AMD mod/harness to work on a SR5. I'm curious as to what that entails. Is it possible to do a write up or even just a short summary how-to? I really want to do this mod, but am living in SR5 town.

You have to remove the instrument cluster to install this harness (instructions available when you purchase harness). If you need to swap to an Off-Road cluster to make this work, then the only extra step is obtaining the new cluster.

Looks like the Off-Road version isn't available right now.

Edit: There is a similar part number available, but I'm not 100% sure it's compatible

    It's a long list...
@4hammer, in order to run an AMD on a 14-19MY SR5 you will need to do a crawl control and MTS retrofit. @replica9000 is correct in that includes swapping the instrument cluster, but there is more involved than just the cluster alone. From someone who has done this, I hardly ever use CC/MTS. It is more to run the AMD than anything else. My rig is mainly my daily driver/ski vehicle and the off-roading I do has never required more than 4L and A-trac at the worst. Really the SR5 is pretty capable for how it is setup. The only thing that really makes the off-road more desirable from a mechanical standpoint (yes cosmetics differences aside) is the manual T case and locking rear diff.

To run the AMD on your SR5 you would need to do the following/swap. I highly advise that if you are going to retrofit this you find parts used.

-Main Body ECU out of Trail (14-16), Offroad (17-19) or TRD Pro (15-19)
-Overhead Console with Crawl Switch (14-19)
-CC/MTS enabled instrument cluster (2015-19MY; avoid the 2014 year because it won't display text in the cluster MID like 15+)

On top of just parts, you will need to complete/add missing wiring not present on your SR5. The crawl switch needs both Battery and Ignition power, connection via the CAN MS Bus to the main body ECU, and all LIN bus wiring will need to be added on the dash side (your wiring from the A-Pillar up to the overhead console is the same as whatever Offroad equivalent to your trim is (i.e. base SR5 = base TRD Offroad).

The Crawl Control Switch is what drives the LIN (local interconnect network) data bus which controls communication between a Crawl/MTS enabled cluster and the AMD. Toyota essentially neutered the SR5/Limited cluster of this capability by not including any of the LIN hardware or software on the cluster.

Swapping the cluster requires reprogramming the mileage to match your original cluster. Toyota will not do this for you. There are services out there where you can send the replacement cluster to have this done, or if you know how to do this you can do it yourself.

@replica9000, I'm not sure what the difference is between those two parts. -35S40 is the correct spec for the 15-19MY CC/MTS clusters, but the -RP on the end of the other one makes me think it stands for replacement (i.e. the last one of those rolled off the line almost 5 yrs ago, and that stock is "just in case" since that cluster is no longer produced by Yazaki). Makes sense why the original is no longer available.

Recently some parts for the 5th gen have started showing no longer available. Whether that is due to all product being diverted to production or it is indeed no longer available is unknown. I wouldn't be surprised if we start seeing more of this as the 5th gen gets put out to retirement.

    Edit: SOLD!

Anyone interested in purchasing my spare AMD? I bought one in preparation for the harness, but I ended up getting the labops gear dash mount, which will cover this/be in contact with the USB charger.

I'm interested to see any install video of this display and harness :D

If the install is easy and not too costly love to get one for 2019 and another for 2021 :spending:

The install was definitely pretty easy. The only scary part is some of the wiring behind the gauge cluster. However, I'm pretty sure it can only be installed on TRDs 19 and older. Anything that has the MTS and Crawl Control. As for parts, getting the AMD is about 200-250 If I remember correctly.
