New Wheels Fuel Vapor, plan to upgrade suspension, add tint and look for guidance through these forums!
My name is Andrew, just got my 4Runner a few weeks ago. It's a 2016 TEP Black. I'm 18 and I'm excited to get into the world of off-roading, so any guidance given is appreciated!

So far, I have upgraded my wheels from the stock to 17" Fuel Vapor wheels. I plan to sell my stock tires and upgrade to BFGoodrich All-Terrain 265s. I also plan to tint the windows and upgrade the sound system.

In the future, I plan to upgrade the suspension from the stock on the Trail Edition. I also have looked into lifting the car a few inches and adding a better roof rack. Also, adding LEDs on the grille. But those are just things floating in my head so far. :)

If any of you have some ideas for me, or some advise to give while I upgrade, I would appreciate it! I do not know a lot about this world, but I look forward to.

    Thanks for reading!

BTW: I'll upload pics of the truck when I'm back in town.

Welcome, I'd say a lift and good tires are the best place to start if you're planning to wheel your truck. If you plan on any heavier wheeling, where you've got a potential to high-center, invest in some good skid plates. In both trucks, my factory skids have gotten pretty beat up with just light wheeling (last one was a 2wd), and I feel that protecting the mechanical components of a vehicle while offroad should be a priority. Also a good set of sliders to replace the factory running boards to protect your doors/rockers, as well.

I will advise you this much on the tint: Depending on where you live, if it gets cold, and you plan on wheeling at night, don't get a dark tint. First time wheeling my new truck was at about 11pm in the snow at 9*, while it was pretty windy. It's extremely hard to see with the windows up if you don't have alley lights and rear lights as well. I'm honestly wanting to get my tints redone or removed all together after that.

Edit: Also, if you plan to lift and swap tires around the same time, do the lift first, so you can see how much tire you can fit.

    Thanks!!

Any specific brands to start the pricing for these things? The lift kit/skid plates/sliders. I've read some on the lift kit and found Rough Country lifts?

That's a great point on tinting. I didn't think about that!

STAY AWAY from RC. If you're just looking to level the truck, you can get a daystar levelling spacer. Next step up would be Bilstein 5100's for a smooth-riding levelling kit, (as they're adjustable front shocks). Daystar also makes a 2.5/1.5 spacer lift/levelling kit, which would lift the front and rear, but the front moreso to level the truck. The levelling spacer kit is ~$100 iirc, a set of 4 5100's is about $400, the lift/levelling kit could push $200. Just shop around. Skids and sliders will all set you back quite a bit, but they're worth it in terms of protecting that huge investment you're wheeling. is gonna be a pretty helpful guide for you, as well. (*cough* this community is still better though *cough*)
