Hi Everyone. I've been looking into different trim levels of 2022 trim models. I noticed trd pros lack of puddle lights and side-mirror turn signals. While Limited trims got them all. I always thought it's safer to have mirror signals on highways. Isn't it a good idea to add these onto the trd pro? I know both trims have pano cameras. Do you guys think it's a direct swap between two different mirror housing to add them? Or is it possible to just get only the turn signals and puddle light brackets? With these additions, it will be a perfect stock trd pro. Let me know what you guys think.

IIRC, I'm fairly certain there is a thread somewhere on here I've seen about adding the puddle lights to non Limited's

I added the turn signals and puddle lights to my 19 Pro. However, I needed a harness to do it and it didn't have the camera system in there. That will almost definitely complicate things.

If Toyota stays consistent with previous model years, the door and mirror wiring harnesses are completely different. On earlier model years this swap requires a harness from Red. But with cameras on 2022s, my guess things have changed quite a bit and his harness will not work. A good chance The swap would be extremely involved from a wiring standpoint.

The Limited is intended for the soccer mom crowd that wont be lifting and offroading their rig, where the Pro is the opposite. Only makes sense to limit the "manners" accessories to road vehicles and reduce streetable add-ons on a rig built for "offroading"?

Hi matoolie. By both trim levels being 2022, would you say that if I take the whole complete mirror assembly with oem harness from limited and put it into trd pro will work? Of course it’s gonna be the most expensive way.

The pro is targeted to the off-road crowd, cheaper mirror and no signal lens to break on something.

i can only speak to previous years and my experience with Red’s harness. And the answer would be no. The plugs are different on the door and mirror harnesses and requires adding wires/pins to the large wiring connectors in the kick panels.

So this is something that I am looking into because the 2022 TRD PRO is different because of the newly added camera system. Just swapping parts is cost prohibitive.

Conservatively if you buy the parts new, the mirrors with the turn signal, puddle light, and cameras are about $700-800 a side (far more expensive than previous years due to the addition of the camera system), and replacing the door harnesses will probably run you $300-400 a door. I would venture a guess that spending $2-2.4K to replace everything is probably not something you want to do.

Hence the ongoing research into finding a better less expensive way to do this for the 22MY Pro. Toyota changed a lot in the mirror system when they added those cameras.

They added it at some point. My late 18 build 19 doesn't have it but I can always purchase the module to add it.

Same. I really don't understand why they are not included on the pro.

Anybody who says it's because the pro is marketed towards the off-road crowd is definitely wrong. The off-road is marketed to the off-road crowd. The pro is marketed to the Instagram crowd, LOL :crapstorm:

Hi Old Red. Thanks, you're well known for being an expert in this. I couldn't believe what I've just found. Those options are standard on Canadian spec Trd pro. Why the heck does Toyota treats the United States differently????

Yep, doesn't make a whole lot of sense. Up in Canada there are only 4 trims for the 4Runner. SR5, TRD Offroad, Limited, TRD PRO. All have dual zone climate control, automatic headlights, windshield washer fluid level sensors, and turn signal puddle light mirrors. Annoying isn't it.

To answer your question why we get treated differently down here in the U.S..... it's complicated, but to boil it down it has to do with a combo of customer interest surveys, and some corporate/accounting (insert what ever descriptor you want) saying "we can save X amount by omitting this feature here and charge more for it on a "Premium" trim, "we can have car for every budget".

Really doesn't make sense because instead of being lean with parts supply and manufacturing you now have 8-9 trim levels with diminishing degrees of difference in between.

I'm praying that the next generation goes back to three trim levels, SR5, Limited, TRD PRO. The off road trim can be a feature package like on the new Tundra.

    Good luck!

Personally, I hope they at least keep an off-road trim option. Or, at least offer the locker and off-road features on a reasonably priced trim.

I expect the next PRO to have KDSS. I just hope it's still available on a lower trim.

I have a 21 Pro and I wish it had the turn signals in the mirrors. I don't necessarily need the puddle lights, but the signals would really be nice to have!

I don't buy any of the reasons people give for the Pro which is the most expensive trim level in the US for not having the turn signal/puddle lamp mirrors. It's simple cost cutting by Toyota. I wanted them so I got Old Red's harness and bought all the OEM components. I love the upgrade and would do it again but it ran close to $700 and I did all the labor. That's BS.

It's hard to believe Toyota would go through the trouble of making a mirror (and perhaps wiring harness) to equip US model TRD Pros with the cameras but not illumination when we know the same vehicle in Canadian spec has all of that. I can't see how this would be "cheaper" to manufacture as it adds complexity to the process.

Exactly! Why would you change something for just one trim level. What I don’t understand is the cost difference between the pro mirrors with the camera and the mirrors with the premium features with the camera. There’s a $500 difference for turn signals and a puddle light in the exact same mirror housing.

The canadian model is probably using the TRDORP door harness with the premium mirrors + MTM, whereas the pro here is likely using the TRDOR door harness with the wiring for the MTM included. Honestly I'm not sure exactly what is in there until I have a 22 Pro Owner willing to take a look for me, or I can get my hands on a pro for a little bit.

Thanks for keeping tabs on this Red. I'm sure other owners will benefit from your work. Your harness worked perfectly on my '21 Pro. I love having the illuminated mirrors.

Toyota has changed the gauge cluster 3 times in the life of the runner. They always do this kind of thing.

I'm a Luddite that probably doesn't have an opinion one way or the other on the Pro turn signals in the mirror, but I'm just a week or two away from taking delivery of my 22 Pro and happy to do what I can to give back, particularly for someone who has done so much for this community. I'll DM in a few weeks once I have my Pro and the spare time to take a look on your behalf.

So... Can I add just the turn signals and puddle lights to my 21 Pro? Or would that still be $700?

I'd greatly appreciate that! I have a few theories as to what might be in the door wiring wise, but hard evidence is better than speculation any day.

At this point I am looking into seeing if it's possible to get individual mirror parts via the OEM to add to the existing mirrors on the pro so people can avoid the ridiculous price of the Premium mirrors with the cameras.

I think the general sentiment is that on a 50K+ vehicle it should have those features for the price. Whether or not they are needed is purely personal.

Yep, that matches my R&D so far. There is a separate harness for the TRD PRO for 22MY. My question is what is the difference between the -35540 & -35550 harness since they are both BSM & PVM. All have wireless door lock. The mystery continues...
