Transfer case oil alternatives?

Not really interested in buying Toyota's 75w liquid gold.

What alternatives are out there that meet spec?

 

A lot of debate over this.

Ok, I saw this a while ago but I forgot about it. Good info here. In summation, Car Care Nut says transfer case oil is not very finicky. Basically you don't have to use the 75w Toyota oil. He says 75-80w, 75-85w, or 75-90w is sufficient based on your temps.

My only issue with that is that 75-90w is something like 3x thicker than the Toyota 75w??

In the comments section someone mentioned Redline MT-LV. It looks very close to Toyota 75w.

Are you using Synchromax? Some other comments talking about this as a replacement as well. Haven't looked at the specs close enough.

Yes! The Toyota stuff was super thin compared to the 75/90 I put in. No issues yet, but I want to switch back to the proper viscosity anyway.

In the Bob the oil guy thread I posted above, someone posted a Blackstone analysis of Toyota 75w vs the Ravenol. One guy was saying the additive package between the two were quite different. Other guys were saying they're using it with no problems. I don't know what to think

 

yeah. When I was looking, it was the only thing I found that met the specs. Wasn’t interested in paying for Toyota branded shit.

 

I think with all types of fluids, you’ll rack your brain doing research and continue to find conflicting info mixed with tons of opinions.

I just consider 90% of fluid dumped into vehicles is some 55 gallon batch bulk unknown shit that works fine

Also, when changing the T-case oil did you guys use more than 1qt? It calls for 1.1qts

 

I really wish I could recall! But, you can get two quarts of that ravenol for way less than a quart of the Toyota liquid Gold. I wouldn't hesitate to use any product that is 75 weight. I'm currently running 75 w 90 without any issues.

 

Any off the shelf 75/90.

 

I just purchased this. I’m looking forward to trying the flexible bags. Should make it easier. Sometimes the bottle pump can be messy.

 

Toyota was telling me they only put in the limited slip additive for limited slip diffs... Not sure if that would be good for the trans case or not. He said not to put LS oil in any of my rigs trans cases or diffs based on VIN numbers.

 

No effect on open diffs but most diff fluid has it pre mixed.

 

If limited slip additive turns my open diffs into limited slip diffs, I’ll be happy.

Paying for Toyota 75w is Toyota getting "yo ass."

Finding a cheaper alternative that still meets spec is literally the definition of Toyota not getting "yo ass."

 

They definitely got my ass. I just paid almost $200 for Aisin trans fluid probably should have just bought Toyota world Superior

 

How many quarts did you end up getting? Are you doing a full change?

I ended up getting this for the transmission. Viscosity is almost exact to Toyota WS. I'm just doing a standard drain and fill though. Nothing too involved. $50 for 5 quarts.

 

Do you have to open that with a can opener?

No chance I'm paying nearly $100 for the Toyota can.

 

Yeah that's what is in mine currently. It's fine, but the shift patterns are a little wonky sometimes. I'm going to do a drain and fill in the spring and put 3 quarts of Toyota WS back into it.

 

For $100 a can you would think it would at least be a twist off lol

 

Let me guess Toyota recommends a proprietary can opener but will not say what the equivalent can open is?
