Hey, I’m wondering if 33s will fit on stock rims and how the fitment will be, especially for off-roading, since the 2021 has a 2 inch lift with the fox suspension

It takes a lot of effort to get to 285/70/R17 to fit if you’re really being honest about the tires rubbing during full steering lock and articulation.

A lot of the people running big ass tires with no lift claiming no rubbing are not being honest about it.

I’m sure they’ll fit. Will they be functional? Ehh.

    All of this is untrue.

I have ungodly clearance and it’s still rubs a bit with the body mount chop because there is nothing from an engineering standpoint you can do to get over the fact that the frame intrudes on the wheel well.

I have stock size wildpeaks and wheel more than 85 percent of 4runner owners and I never had an issue with size. Pro wheels will definitely rub more than off road wheels. I had 33s on my 1st gen tacoma and honestly it's the same shit, you'll get worse milage with 33s and more strain on your drive train and you'll be hacking up your newer rig but it's your rig at the end of the day

Aftermarket UCA, wheels pushed all the way to the front. All you have to do it is turn wheels to lock and roll over something taller than 8-10” and yours will rub too.

Yes I do rub, but only very slightly and thats only because I have -12 offset and run spridertrax. But I didn't rub without spacers. Also let's get back on topic.

The op has a trd pro, 17x7 +4 offset. It won't rub :) if it does trim. Just make sure your trim/chop/beat/cut enough, in fact make it more then enough, if your going to do it, do it once.

Landcruiser- i don't know why yours rubs after your bmc. Only thing I can think of is you just didn't cut enough off. This is what my bmc looks like sorry for the horrible picture.. only thing my tire comes close to rubbing is the pinch weld area. But I pushed that back enough it clears under full flex, which isn't alot since I'm still running a front sway bar

With how long these vehicles have been out I can’t believe how much misinformation there is on this subject.

OP - 33’s will absolutely fit stock IF you don’t run wheel spacers. Stock trd off-road and trd pro wheels both fit 33s with the front fender mod done. Your pro comes from the factory with a variation of this mod done already.

Source - I’m running 285/70r17 on stock wheels on my MY22. Full stuff and full locked forward and reverse no rub.

I think if you're trying to convince the rest of the 4R owners that 33s will fit a stock 4R, you need to provide more information on what you're driving than MY22.

Are you saying your Pro has an aftermarket 2" lift, or are you under the impression that the Pro stock is 2" lifted over other 4R models just because it's a Pro? (not true)

Maybe someone in charge can write an article outlining what can and can not be done with non OEM sized tires, wheels, offsets, lifts, leveling kits, etc. This ad nauseum question gets fewer and fewer responses becasue it has been hashed out 2.6 bajillion times already.

Side note - consider using the search button for all future tire questions?

Completely stock MY22 trd OR with the front liner pushed forward similar to how Pro's come from the factory.

White 5th gen with a set of bronze fuel d666 shoks, wrapped in 32 inch mud tires. Bilstein B5100 shocks all around with 2.5 inch lift in the front, and a 1.5 inch cornfed spacer in the rear.
I have a 2022 4 runner with a 2.5 front end bilstein lift and a 1.5 inch rear cornfed spacer. I have 32's right now with no rub, could I go to 33's or will it not work? Also, I have very meaty mud terrain tires right now, anybody have any recommendations for a less knobby tire that is still very offroad oriented? Thank you!

This is maybe what I needed to hear before I start modding. I got a used ‘22 OR. Only thing not stock is the tires, as it was a rental car and they put on more normal road tires. Would like to see what type of off-roading folks can do with stock ORs and stock size wildpeaks.

My first 2 outings, I was with a group that did local, overgrown forest trails. First trip had my ‘22 ORP for 3 weeks, and had only changed the tires to Toyo OC AT3s in stock size. Was fun, certain parts of the path took the east route, just scratched up passenger side with branches .
2nd outing was more rocky (not rock crawling level though), and was a day after raining. Tires worked awesome going up a steep, rocky part of the trail after driving through a big puddle. There were some actual technical aspects to this trail, and I avoided the harder passes and towards halfway couldn’t continue with the group that had larger tires, lifts and full under armour. But was great to see what the stock height could get me, in areas where people were driving quads and dirt bikes. I had fun, except a few more scratches

If I remember correctly, the YouTuber "Sir William Goes" did a LOT of wheeling with his TRD OR on stock suspension and stock size tires.

When you look at the specs, a 285 is only about an inch taller than the stock size tire. Not really that much of a gain as far as ground clearance, perhaps about 0.5". The extra width of the 285 is really not much of an asset, IMO. It's not like we're talking about stepping up from a 32 to 35, which is a significant increase in capability. I'd love to see a situation where somebody couldn't make an obstacle with 265, but suddenly was able to do it with a 285. I doubt most people are pushing these THAT hard.

My lift just arrived, I'm doing 2" front, 1" rear. This is just for aesthetics. I need new suspension anyway, so I figured why not do a little lift. I just want to see a little bit more space in the wheel wells even with the stock tires. I don't really have any plans to upgrade tire size at this time. Maybe when my current tires wear out, and if this is no longer a DD for me, I might go up, again for aesthetic purposes and not so much function.

    Awesome post. With good info

For the op. Get some aggressive all terrain tires(sl or xl rated) in stock size 265 70 17.

For most applications, I agree with the minimal benefit of 285 over 265. But, where I had difficulty vs those with 285s (for a couple same brand as mine) was in ruts. Where I had traction issues, they did not. Because of the type of trails I live close to, most of them have rutted out parts of the trails. People don’t seem to understand, spinning tires through mud makes it difficult for those behind. In any case that bit of extra width permitted that big of extra grip to get through where I got stuck. On rocks and flatter terrain, I probably am better off, especially on steeper inclines where I have less rotational mass robbing me of power at the wheels.

run 285 with a chop and fender push. take the guess out of it. There is much more that can go into it. available travel, articulation etc. Lift doesn't make a tire fit. it just makes it 'easy.'

This is worth a watch. On my 2018 with 1.5"F/1"R lift and JBA high caster UCA's, I rub a ton with 255/75/17's on -10 offset wheels. There are three choices for me- remove UCA's and go back to stock, get new wheels ($700-1000) or new tires ($800-1000).

My 33's fit on my 2022 Off Road with no modification. I've been off road and pretty much maxed travel, no rubbing. 255/80/17s. Manufacturer lists diameter of 32.8".

That's interesting. I wonder if it's your JBA UCA. You probably don't need it with such a low lift.

I have a 1.6" lift up front, 285/70/17, Offroad Wheels, Spidertrax spacers (giving me an offset around -15), fender liner mod, stock UCAs with caster set to 3.6*, and no BMC.

    I don't rub.

I'm also running jba arms with about 1.5" of lift. My offsets -12. I do have a bmc. The after install uca and getting align(caster 4.2) it did put the tire closer to the body mount. So if very well could be the arms. Jba told me the arms will work with 1" of lift and up. yeah, you really don't need uca with 1.5" lift. But the jba arms definitely add droop.
