TRD Pro roof rack tube questions

Hi

first post. Wife and I just got a 2022 TRD Offroad Premium this week. We traded in our 2008 FJ Cruiser. Very sad day to see it go but the corrosion underneath of it from 14 WV winters was intense. Our FJ had a factory tube roof rack similar to the TRD Pro roof rack.

I would like to add this rack to our 4R. The factory rack will run about $630 locally. I see that there are some knock offs that are cheaper.

Any brands that are GTG and ones to avoid?

Also, what is the tube dia of the factory rack? I have surf rod tubes that I built that attached to our FJ rack with race car weight clamps. FJ tubes were about 1.75"

Can't help on the tube diameter, but I will suggest you keep an eye on the 5th gen for sale threads. These oem takeoffs come up for sale fairly often.

Where in WV are you? I am in Frederick, MD - 30 minutes from Harpers Ferry, WV.

I have a 2021 Pro that turns one on 05/13/22 and have been wanting to take off the Pro roof rack. I would consider having it removed and sold for a fair price if you are interested.

 

I'm almost certain it's also about 1.75"

Why is it common for people to take off the factory tube rack? Like I said I had basically the same thing on our FJ and it served us well.

Primarily I don't like the look of it! It seems to be more of a beacon to identify the Pro than of sound functionality. I think I will prefer the sleeker more streamlined look of it not being there and possibly slight improvements in MPG and noise reduction. This 4R is for my sole use only and I don't foresee ever needing to use that rack. There appears to be plenty room on the inside for whatever my needs maybe. I have a 2002 beater Suburban for hauling things if needed!

 

I will also be doing the TRD OEM rack delete within these next few weeks. There was a guy doing the upper rail delete mods with his own custom kit which I really wanted to do, but unfortunately he is retiring and not sure if he will be continuing that side gig, just spoke with him this week.

I live in Southern California and would be willing to let my OEM rack go at about 50-60% of the market asking price.
Not a huge fan of the look and functionality. This removal was always on my to do list, but just now getting down my checklist of mods to complete. If anyone is interested and willing to pay for shipping, I am willing to let it go for a very cheap price.

I took my stock rack off because I needed a full-length rack to support the length of my ARB awning. I went with an SSO (Southern Style Offroad) full length rack.
