I just got a 2016 Trail and want to put new tires on it. Stock size is obviously 265/70/17. Has anyone put 275/70/17 BFG KO2s on? If so, did they fit without rubbing? From the research I've done, it seems they usually fit without any issues, but a few posts I've read did mention in some instances it did cause rubbing. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Also, if the 275 size doesn't work, any recommendation on 265/70/17 tire? I'm debating between Toyo AT2 and BFG KO2. Again, any help would be appreciated. I do 85% of my driving on road and 15% on sand and trails (light mud) with a little snow driving every once and awhile. Thanks -

I put those exact tires on my Trail, no rub at all even off road. Did lose some MPGs though, but worth the look and tires handle great in snow and off road.

Great. In fact, just drove through the Jupiter ice storm yesterday for 14 hours. Rain and ice, and no problems.

Yes, just put that exact tire on my sons TRDP. No rubbing at all and they handle and look awesome.

I had 275/70/17 KO2s on TRDP wheels before I lifted my 4Runner with no rubbing. I really think it depends on the vehicle itself. I've heard some people say they didn't rub at all with these tires with stock height, but have also heard people say they rub with no lift on stock wheels also. To me, it seems like it's 4Runner specific and not just a tire thing.

Has anyone installed KUMHO Road Venture AT51 275-70/R17? I was set on BFK KO2s but learning a bit about 10/ply, heavier, somewhat overkill for a daily driven (no 4-wheelin') vehicle. The KUMHOs are 6/ply and from what I've heard, quieter. In terms of price, they are are slightly less expensive than the KO2s. I would not buy them to save a few bucks. I want a quiet smooth ride that looks somewhat aggressive. Any input about KUMHOs would be appreciated.

The Ko2's are very quiet. Look aggressive as well.

Yes, I've seen many posts confirming how quiet the KO2s were. Yesterday, I had two online tire retailers tell me an E rated tire was overkill for a daily driven, non-four wheelin' 4runner and that the ride would be unnecessarily stiff. Both retailers recommended a less expensive C range option. I do like the look of the BFGs better but I want a comfortable ride first and foremost, so inclined to go with the Kumho. I only wish at least one other person on the forum indicated they installed these tires.

Are you still planning on lifting? Why not go with a 285/70/17 in a load range C or D? In my opinion 275's look too small with a lift over 2". Just my .02.

    Ridge Grapplers available in C
    Duratracs are available in D

Yeah, still lifting 2 - 3 inches. I am sticking with 275's for three main reasons. (1) I read on this forum about people experiencing rubbing issues with 285's (2) I want to stick with TRD wheels and they only come in 7" width (except for the knock-offs) which limits me to the 275's. I agree, there are a lot of great looking aftermarket wheels. I had Fuel Recoils on my Tacoma, they looked great, but I just want to stick with OEM wheels from now on; (3) the actual difference between 275's and 285's is only 1.7% (height) and 3.5% (width). Although the numbers do seem insignificant, I do agree the 285's look better but I am just not willing to go to those for the first two reasons mentioned.

    https://www.tacomaworld.com/tirecalc?tires=285-70r17-275-70r17

Current dilemma is, do I buy used/refurbished TPMS sensors on eBay for $80, new ones on eBay for $170, or switch out my OEM sensors to my new wheel/tire? I plan to sell my stock wheels on Craigslist, so do I spend the money on new sensors and hope to make up the cost by selling my stock set with sensors installed or do I sell wheels and tires separately without sensors and switch OEM sensors to new set up? Not sure what to do right now in that regard. I think it's easier to sell two separte items (wheels and tires) for $300 or $400 each than it is to sell the set for $800 - $900, but....I am not sure. Any input is welcomed. Thanks.

Right on, it sounds like you've done your research and know what you want. I would go with the KO2's still. They are a great all around tire and look aggressive as well. Yes, the load range E is overkill and will be stiffer but it shouldn't be unbearable. Maybe find a tire shop that will let you try them out for a day? Cooper makes the ST Maxx in a 275. It's also a E rating but folks seem to love those tires on Tacomaworld.

As far as the sensors go there, I don't have much input. I just had them swap my stock sensors onto my new wheels. I sold my old wheels and tires without the sensors for $450 on craigslist.

I just went through this entire process, so I feel your pain lol. I did finally get the BFG's. This whole E rated tire being stiff thing is overblown. IT rides AWESOME, corners great, and looks good too. I also have E rated BFG's on my wife's lifted Tundra and it also rides great. I will agree that the tire weight may ding mpg some, but I would've bought a unibody with a mini van V6 if it were my main focus. Good luck. IMG_1031.jpg

Wow. Your ride looks awesome, especially the wheels and the cement color. Are your tires 275s? I can't explain why I had two retailers advise against those tires when I told them my main concern was a smooth ride (as opposed to an aggressive look). Maybe they are just repeating something they heard and like you said, it's all overblown.

I am having my Kumho's and lift installed on Monday. I am hoping my rig looks as good as yours but I doubt it. That said, if it looks a little "less cool" and still rides smoothly, I will be happy. I saw someone posted a picture of a white 4Runner with black TRD wheels with the original smooth stock tires. I thought that looked good too.

I'm glad to hear that you saw the TRD RIMS on the stock tires and it didn't look like total crap. I was going to put the black TRD RIMS on my new trail premium with the stock tires instead of wasting a brand new set of tires. Knowing me, it won't look cool enough and I'll end up buying new tires too

I hear you. For someone that does not plan on actual off-roading and just wants to have a nice looking street rig, I think it makes sense. In fact, I wish it had occurred to me to just get the TRD wheels (which I bought on eBay for $725) and but the stock tires on those to see what it looks like. I did buy a tire with a semi-aggressive look ....well, we will see. I will post pictures next week after the install, unless it looks very bad, then I will disappear from the forum. LOL..Kidding.

Thanks! Yes, those are 275 70 17's. No lift... The great thing about tires, is...you'll need another set and you can always get something different later! Those Kumho tires will look great...not to worry!

Does anyone know if 275 will work with 5th gen 4Runner Limited? Or how big of a tires I can go with the stock suspension. Thanks

E tires are overkill on these small trucks. Sure, when you first put them on they feel great. Any new tire feels great. The rubber is fresh, they are not worn funny, etc. After a couple years those tires are going to make your 4runner ride like a tank. It's basic math, ten ply tires are for towing a 5th wheel behind an F350.

I wish BFG or another mfg would make a 275 C rated All Terrain. I think there is a market for them.

I bought BFG A/T's for my 09' Taco, and loved them. Until about 25k. I kept having wheel shake and alignment that wouldn't last.

Finally, after having them rotated and balanced right before selling to my Dad, the mechanic at the dealer informed me they were E rated and WAY too heavy for the truck. It was compounded by the fact that I had them static balance them when I originally had the OG Duflops removed and the BFG's put on as the wheel weights were starting to chew into the clear on the wheels.

So, between the E rating (heavy) and me choosing to only get the wheels static weighed(vanity), I created a scenario of a poorly worn tire due to less than ideal balance which in turn caused the alignment to get off kilter every 4K or so(stupidity).

I will most likely stick with C rated Trail Grapplers on the Trail..
