Does anyone know if installing a k&n air filter would void the manufacturers warranty?

The sticker that came with mine said it did not void the warranty. But Toyota was not the one furnishing the sticker either. Anyway, let me share my experience and why I took mine off, gave it away and starting using the TRD air filters again. I wheel mine in South Texas where it is very dusty. The K&N was letting too much fine dust through and into the engine. I know because I do my own vehicle maintenance and inspections. I did notice the K&N was not removing all the finer particles. I had a layer of fine dust building up on the inside of the intake duct and MAF sensor after changing over to K&N. I cleaned it out and tried it again. It repeated. So, went back to the TRD air filter and the situation stopped.

I am thinking K&N is good for street and off-roading if you use a pre-filter too. But why? I never felt any performance improvements or saw an improvement in mpg.

The above experience was with my FJ. And now I have a 4Runner that came with an AFE CAI and I am watching it too.

K&N consistently ranks at the bottom of every filter test I've seen. I ditched mine too, I'm using vanilla NAPA gold air filters and couldn't be happier.

Used the K&N on my 93 F150 4x4 and it did a fine job of polishing cylinder walls......did not burn oil but had no longer any power or any giddy yup.......

IF you are looking for the very best filtration look for a Wix, NAPA Gold (same product as told to me by two different NAPA dealers) or use Amazon for 1/2 price OEM filters.

Gottah be a reason why these engine last so long and perform so well. K&N is great at marketing and has a strong following but unless you take frequent UOA there is NO way to know how well that K&N filter is performing.

If longevity and performance is really important; I'd recommend a Fumoto drain valve gather oil sample send to Blackstone lab to establish a baseline and then monitor progress.
As soon as you see a 'above normal' silicon level you know filter is not performing and should try OEM.

Many confuse silicon the mineral aka sand with silicone the rtv. Silicon (the sand) is what one should look for in UOA results to ensure air filtration is performing properly.

Hope this long winded book report cleared up it all up like Texas mud...lol.....j/k....

    oh the list....!
Couldn't agree more. Have been running Amsoil for six years now in my '11 Subaru. Pull samples, get them checked, and follow the trend. $11 is VERY CHEAP INSURANCE!! Added benefit for using 100% synthetic as well is extended drain change intervals. Consistently run 25K+ intervals, and trend chart is still great with both contaminants, and wear metals.

Many of the Taco guys were fans of the AFE Pro Dry filters. Of course, some were ripping out the factory pre-filter too...

Been running K&N full kit soon after new. Dealer told me would not impact warranty. We have 200,000 plus and have had no problems. When installed gained a couple MPG. With 2003 SR5 V8. Getting 20 plus when lightly loaded on HI way w/o mountains. Getting 19 otherwise on HI way. While rig fully loaded pulling 20' '61 Avion vintage trailer with approx. 4200 lbs. getting 13.5 - 14.5 up and down the West Coast.
