Is it just me or has Toyota suddenly sold a gazillion new 4Runners?

I would love to have one of these or a Tahoe in this color!

I read about that, that is absolutely insane. These sports team owners want a new stadium, they should be responsible for building them themselves.

I really like that color and it still has some pop in the color for being 20 years old. Still runs well, but the rust is starting to eat it up!

That's a shame about the rust. Most of the ones in my area seem to have that problem as well. Whenever I see a green one pop up on Marketplace near me, I get excited, but on closer examination, it always has the same rust issues. Suboverland just put out a couple new videos, they recently built a green Z71 Tahoe. It's beautiful, and from being out that way it's rust free.

I have seen their videos before! I love their clever conversions of the Suburban. Makes so much sense! If mine was rust free I would do the same. I could have saved a lot of money by modifying the Suburban (paid off 17 yrs ago) and kept my paid off (30 mpg) Subaru Crosstrek!

Yeah, I do enjoy the fact that my 2013 Trail is somewhat unique as far as 4Runners go. I used to see one running around locally, but I haven't seen it in quite a while. Every once in awhile there is a salsa red one that I see, and also a black one, but those sightings are pretty infrequent.

Im the type to want to keep a vehicle for 30 years. I made 22 years on my 99 Accord, could have gone longer but ultimately junked it last year. I has maintained it well, but ultimately it became “the giving tree”. It was retired in honor. 22 years is a long time.

I have another beater, little 2006 mazda tribute with super low miles, which just means absolutely leaks like a sieve. But it’s stickshift and quite fun to drive, oddly enough. Perfect beater car.

But it’s been sitting in the driveway, mostly unused. Love driving the 4runner too much. Honestly in 30 years, I’ll be too old to care if the 4runner is still good. I’m going to be super picky about maintainance, but Im gonna squeeze the juice out of this thing.

Hopefully Toyota follows the bronco/jeep trend and redesigns it to compete in that space, but still keep it’s reliability, durability, and utility edge over the competition.

I saw a green 2nd gen Tacoma once- love that color. Toyota also had an 86 in green with the tan interior which was sharp, and my 97 Miata had that same combo. The army green 4R and Wranglers just aren't the same.

I think you tend to notice them more when your in one. I think this is true for all vehicles; there always seem to be more on the road when you're driving one.

Good observation, but I’ve had mine almost two years and this was the first time I observed an explosion of new ones on the roads around me. Prob just a fluke. But supply does seem up again. My dealer has 7 of them atm.

My dad had a 2005 Suburban LT, I did my drive test in that thing, even the parallel parking test lol. Loved that behemoth. The "like a rock" Chevy era was pretty legit, at least by domestic standards.

If 4Runners were not a thing I would try to find a nice last gen 2dr C/K Blazers or first gen 2dr Tahoes. Chef's kiss as far as domestic trucks go imo.

Too funny! I did the same. We had a 1974 Suburban and I also took the drivers test in it (1979) and passed. The tester said "you must be pretty confident to test in this thing". The parallel parking went fine, but the 3 point turn was a 5 point turn. That 74 Suburban had a 454 engine and that sucker could roll! Slow off the start, but could really get going! I loved the old K5 Blazers back in the 70's.

haha yeah I remember something similar from my tester "if you can parallel this you can parallel anything". the long wheel-base was not fun I'll agree, the 5.3 Vortec on the other hand..

i seem to spot a lot of SR5s with pro wheels and predator steps where i live. limited/nightshades are pretty damn common too.

there are quite a few pros around as well, since Toyota makes it so cheap for employees to lease them.

ORs are a different story. i probably see them maybe less than 10% of the time. but the ones i do see, they are decently modded.

OG 5th gens are somewhat common, though i have never seen a OG Trail in person lol.

It really is a bummer they are so susceptible to corrosion as they kick arse on snow. If I lived North of the Mason Dixon, I really don’t know if I would buy one.

Yeah we get some from up north down here in Florida and they look like they have a quarter inch thick layer of rust Across the entire bottom of the truck. It’s crazy because some of them look brand new from the rocker panels up and in the interior But same goes for the newer ones

5th gen 4Runners are a dime a dozen around here; have been for years. Gotta be careful at work that I don't try to get into the wrong one at the end of the day.
Relatively small number of older models here but what I did find interesting was that on my last trip to the Bryson City area, there were a ton of older ones, guessing gen 3 or 4. several looked almost new, couple looked pretty worn but were still zipping around the mountain roads pretty well.

Quote from my Dad who is a diehard, lifelong, wont buy anything else but Chevy guy.. “I gotta admit.. the 4Runner is the last good looking, tough, SUV” … maybe that accounts for the popularity now! Plus.. this forum builds them up to be legendary! haha

I would be happy if they kept them the same, but gave a v8 option lol...just seems like everything is leaning towards fuel economy making engines smaller and vehicles shaped in wired ways, I’m not a fan of cross overs. Love my box.

Doesn't surprise me sales are up at all. Lots of people buying now just to get them before they get completely revised and possibly no longer made in Japan myself included. As mentioned no real competition anymore. Coupled with tried and true they're hard to beat. I believe in the K.I.S.S. principle. Having no turbos, no direct injection, a return style fuel system, no dual cooling systems and all those extra sensors/parts to go along with it and room to work on it is a huge plus in my book. Think cab removal to get to the turbos on the new Tundras. No thankyou. The extra mpg I'd get not worth it and I didn't buy a race truck so don't care about a few extra horses. Don't see a lot of 4Runners here in Southern Ontario I see mostly Limited and SR5 models. More Pro models around here than my TRD Off Road. In the 7 months I've had mine I've only seen 1 other. What have I learned is Midnight Black sucks to keep clean and pretty and shows every single clearcoat scratch no matter how light. But still love that blue twinkle in the black when she's clean and the sun hits it.

I leased my current 4R to see what the 6th does, but I’m now seriously thinking about just keeping this 4R when my lease is up. I just want simple and reliable in this shitty world.

The only real downside to my 4runner is well I am a bigger guy, and getting in and out is different than the full sized tundras and chevys I have had by a long shot. I am pretty comfortable while seated tho. A little more room for me would be nice. This is the one thing that has be re thinking the purchase. Other than that I actually like driving it.

I've noticed that there's been a bit of an explosion of 4Runners in my area as well. I saw a few here and there when I had my SR5P, but, here lately there have been a lot of others on the road. Mostly Limiteds.

used to have a 3rd gen Tacoma I can tell you the 4Runner fits me waaay better. Tacomas are great but their interiors are annoyingly cramped. Tundra interiors make me feel like I could setup my office in the driver's seat.
