Is it just me or has Toyota suddenly sold a gazillion new 4Runners?

Thanks for reposting a picture of my 1988. I bought it new for around $15,000 and I think I kept it for five years!

I bet it goes for over $35K. Those are unicorns in that condition, I think we'll be surprised at how high it goes.

Sales numbers for cars are a funny thing, as they can never sell more than they are allocated. That is more apparent in Canada, with small dealerships only being allocated maybe 2-3 2022 TRD Pro models. Sales are also dependant on the economy, which is apparent in 2009 huge dip after US housing crash. So we need to look at it as a rate to see how well 4Runner is doing. What % of its category does it have, and has that grown? Also in Canada, many 4Runners are bought here to ship overseas, which adds to hardly seeing any on the road. I saw 1 this week, but I’ve seen 2 Raptors, 2 new Broncos (the real ones) and lost count of how many newer Wranglers.

I bought no. 3 in Dec. 2021, was a 2022 MY. Super white SR5. I see them on the road everywhere on the east coast of central FLA every day. Many are 4th gens but still, lots of 4Runners. Most are gen 5s. I love it.

A fully loaded 4 runner is still cheaper vs a loaded terrain, explorer, grand Cherokee and especially the tahoes and such.

I looked up the window sticker for the 96 SR5 that I had a few years ago, and it was just over $30K, so by that measure, they are not too bad. In comparison to the average new car price ($47K!) they are also decently priced. It just seems odd how people complain about high gas prices and the cost of everything skyrocketing, and then buy such expensive cars.

Not bad for the 4 runner, I think my 2001 Tahoe 4x4 LT that came with everything minus a sunroof was about $40,000 to $43,000 maybe? Today a replica would be $75,000 + I think.

We paid $36,000 for our 2002 Chevy Suburban Z71. 0% financing / 36 month payoff! $1,000 a month for three years and our mortgage payment at the time was $1,200 a month! We still have that Suburban with 238,000 miles!

I am the second owner of mine, got it January 2015 @ 97,000 miles & I got it up to 200,900 so far. Love it and won’t get rid of it until it’s absolutely necessary. They don’t make em like they used to!

I occasionally see another 5th GEN 4R on the road or in a parking lot. But almost all I see are either SR5 or Limited.

Looks pretty clean and shiny still! For a NY vehicle it’s whole life mines still holding up decent, it always did what it was told to do.

Yours looks great! Our color and sheen is still good, but the rust is starting to eat it up. The liquified salt sprayed on the roads and the rock salt here in Maryland is very corrosive. We will probably keep her till she dies! It has been a great vehicle for 20 years!

Oh they layer the streets with the salt here to, rust proofing yearly helps a lot. The Tahoe is now my winter beater to keep the 4 runner clean for a bit.

Between college and the Army, my three boys are out of the house. This winter on several salty days I thought about driving the beater, but I couldn't do it! I'd rather be in my 4R any day despite the salt! Unless I have to drag a deer out of the woods, the Suburban will do! We removed the third row of seats and have the middle row down flat with a sheet of plywood down. Had to remove the rear carpet since one of my dip shit sons spilled gas in the back. It is essentially a enclosed pick up truck now!

Skiing Jackson Hole, WY last year and there were 4R's everywhere. They seemed to be the primary rental SUV that season. My son attends Montana State U in Bozeman and there are 4R's and Tacoma's everywhere. I have never seen such a high density of 4R's and Taco's. Where I live in MD mostly Limited's and SR5's.

Believe me I want to daily the 4 runner, but if it’s the last year of this generation I plan on keeping the thing for 30 years hopefully. A new vehicle can be ruined pretty fast in Western NY, I see to many 5-10 year old vehicles looking like shit here. I didn’t realize MD was still so close up north, I thought you guys dodged the salt and winter for the most part.

Snowfall here is hit or miss. We supposedly average 22" a year here in Frederick, MD. Frederick County is western end of Central MD / beginning of Western MD. Highest mountain in Frederick County is 1,895 feet. Highest mountain in MD is 3,360 feet. Sorry to bore you with those details!

According to the internet which is of course smarter than me Buffalo NY averages 85-95 inches a year, and no the details are interesting to know! You never know what you are going to get weather wise anymore here.

Haha that’s funny, I don’t really pay attention to sports much, but I am sure they will be so happy that the tax payers are putting $600 some million dollars towards there new 1.4B stadium hah! I never went to a bills game yet the stadium is 15 miles away from me or less.

Tax payers paying for stadiums for billionaire owners makes no sense! Especially for a football stadium used for 9 - 13 games a year it is absurd!

Exactly, and they are demolishing the current one and building the new one right across the street. I feel so bad for the few houses on that side, that has to suck!!!

I recently sold my 21 4Runner for two reasons. I really missed having a pickup with a bed separate from the cabin. The other was that I got significantly more than I bought it for a year ago. I found a 22 DCLB Tacoma TRD OR for MSRP and was able to reduce my loan by almost 10k. I do believe the 4Runner is overall a better built vehicle, not that the Tacoma isn’t a great vehicle as it is. I just know the motor and drivetrain on the 4Runner is outstanding. Only time will tell if the 3.5L V6 will be as reliable.
